    Advice: Short is clearing out as J.D. Martinez is added to the Mets' active roster. The 28-year-old utility player had received just 12 plate appearances this month with the big club, picking up one hit.     The Orioles optioned Holliday to Triple-A Norfolk on Friday.

    Advice: The top prospect made his big-league debut April 10 in Boston to much fanfare, but he looked entirely overmatched at the plate in his first couple weeks of MLB action. Holliday went 2-for-34 with two walks, five runs and 18 strikeouts in 10 games, so the Orioles opted to return him to Norfolk. The 20-year-old could rejoin Baltimore for another look later in the season, but for now he'll head back to Triple-A, where he posted a 1.077 OPS in 56 plate appearances to start the year.   • Makes splash in big-league return
    Hernaiz went 2-for-2 with a walk, a stolen base and a run in a 3-1 win over the Yankees on Thursday.

    Advice: Hernaiz, who was called back up from Triple-A Las Vegas earlier in the day, made an impact from the bottom of the order for an offense-starved Oakland team. He had significant trouble mastering big-league arms to open the season, but he's in line for significant playing time while Zack Gelof (oblique) is on the 10-day injured list.     Urias went 1-for-3 with a two-run home run in a win over the Rangers on Thursday.

    Advice: The offseason addition made some noise from the bottom of the order, snapping a 2-2 tie via a 398-foot fifth-inning shot to left center off Andrew Heaney. Urias last left the park back on April 6, and despite the timely long ball Thursday, he's sitting on a .179 batting average and .303 OBP across 33 plate appearances. However, he's also carrying a .500 slugging percentage, thanks to the fact that all five of his hits have gone for extra bases (three doubles, two homers). Rotowire.com Today, 9:33 am

    Clement went 1-for-1 with an RBI and a stolen base in Thursday's rain-shortened loss to the Royals.

    Advice: Getting the start at third base and batting sixth, Clement did what he could with his opportunities, dropping a sacrifice bunt in the second inning before singling home the Jays' only run of the game in the fourth. The 28-year-old has a four-game RBI streak going despite sporadic playing time, and while he sports an impressive .292/.300/.479 slash line on the season with two homers, two steals, six RBI and nine runs in 51 plate appearances, Clement is one of five utility players currently on the big-league roster -- along with Isiah Kiner-Falefa, Cavan Biggio, Davis Schneider and the recently promoted Addison Barger -- who are splitting time between second base, third base and left field.     Williams went 1-for-4 with a stolen base Thursday against the Brewers.

    Advice: The 25-year-old was in the lineup for the 10th time this season, as he stepped in at second base while Jared Triolo shifted to third in place of a resting Ke'Bryan Hayes.     Red Sox manager Alex Cora said Thursday that Gonzalez (wrist) isn't progressing as hoped and isn't considered close to a return from the 10-day injured list, Pete Abraham of The Boston Globe reports.

    Advice: Gonzalez was placed on the IL on April 13 with a left wrist sprain, and after an MRI revealed no structural damage, the expectation was that the infielder would be ready rejoin the Red Sox after a minimum-length stay on the shelf.     Braves activated 2B Ozzie Albies (toe) from the 10-day injured list.

    Advice: Albies returns to the active roster following a stay on the injured list with a fractured right toe. It’s amazing that the 27-year-old needed just the minimum 10 days on the injured list before making his return with the injury he had. On top of that, he was doing fielding drills this past weekend to get ramped up for live action.   • Reaches three times, swipes base
    Betts went 2-for-3 with a double, a walk, a run and a stolen base against the Nationals in Thursday's 2-1 victory.

    Advice: Betts scored the decisive run in the contest by walking, swiping second base and crossing the plate on a Freddie Freeman double in the eighth inning. Betts seems to be running more frequently so far this season -- the stolen base was his sixth of the campaign through 27 contests, putting him well on pace to reach 20 steals for the first time since 2018. That has to be sweet music to his fantasy managers' ears, and Betts is paying huge dividends in other areas as well, slashing .374/.477/.636 with six homers, 21 RBI and 27 runs.
