  • Posts career-high 12 strikeouts
Kirby (3-2) earned the win over the Diamondbacks on Saturday, hurling seven shutout innings while allowing two hits and two walks. He struck out 12.

Advice: Kirby wasn't playing around Saturday, fanning six of the first eight batters he faced en route to recording a career-high 12 strikeouts on the night. The right-hander has now hurled 12 shutout innings over his last two starts while Saturday also marked the second time this season in which he's allowed only two hits. Kirby now carries a 30:2 K:BB through five starts this month and has won his last two decisions. Rotowire.com 6 minutes ago
  • Rocked in third loss
Ross (1-3) took the loss Saturday against the Yankees after he gave up seven runs (six earned) on eight hits and three walks in five innings. He struck out five.

Advice: Ross continued his boom-or-bust tendencies Saturday, as he's given up six earned runs in two starts and three earned runs combined in his other three outings. The veteran right-hander likely has some security in Milwaukee's rotation with Wade Miley (elbow) out for the season and Jakob Junis (shoulder) and DL Hall (knee) also on the shelf, but Ross has a 5.40 ERA and 1.68 WHIP through five starts and is a volatile fantasy option. • Pushed off 40-man roster
The Red Sox designated Rodriguez for assignment Sunday.

Advice: Boston recalled right-hander Naoyuki Uwasawa from Triple-A Worcester in a corresponding move, but because Rodriguez doesn't have any minor-league options remaining, he was moved off the 40-man roster to make room on the 26-man active roster for Uwasawa. The lefty reliever has a decent track record at the big-league level, but he struggled in his 11 appearances with Boston so far this season, logging a 6.55 ERA, 1.55 WHIP and 11:2 K:BB in 11 innings. It's unclear if Rodriguez will be a sought-after commodity on the waiver wire, despite being on an affordable one-year, $1.5 million contract this season. Rotowire.com 26 minutes ago
  • Gets call to majors
The Red Sox recalled Uwasawa from Triple-A Worcester on Sunday.

Advice: Uwasawa has made a trio of five-inning starts for Worcester since he was optioned to the affiliate after the Red Sox acquired him from the Rays shortly before Opening Day, but the Japanese right-hander looks like he'll be making his MLB debut as a member of Boston's bullpen. He'll tentatively slot in as a multi-inning relief option, but with three members of the Boston rotation currently on the injured list, Uwasawa could eventually get a chance to make some starts if depth arms such as Cooper Criswell, Josh Winckowski and Chase Anderson aren't able to get the job done as fill-ins in the rotation. • Sticking around in rotation
Woods Richardson is scheduled to start Tuesday's game against the White Sox.

Advice: Woods Richardson will be making his second straight turn through the Minnesota rotation after he was called up from Triple-A St. Paul on Thursday to replace the struggling Louie Varland, who was optioned to the minors. While making his second start with the big club of the season Thursday, the right-hander took a no-decision against the White Sox, striking out six and allowing two earned runs on seven hits and one walk over five innings. The outing was good enough to earn Woods Richardson at least one more turn through the rotation, with the 23-year-old getting another crack against the White Sox on the road. • Draws another start
Flexen is slated to start Wednesday's game against the Twins at Guaranteed Rate Field.

Advice: Flexen will make a second straight turn through the rotation after he held his own in his return from the bullpen Friday against the Rays, striking out two while allowing five baserunners over five scoreless innings en route to grabbing his first win of the season. The right-hander may not be in store for an extended run in the rotation, however; Mike Clevinger made a 60-pitch rehab start at Triple-A Charlotte this past week and could be ready to make his 2024 White Sox debut by next weekend. • Gets starting nod in bullpen game
Grove is slated to start Sunday's series finale in Toronto in what's expected to a bullpen game for the Dodgers, Bill Plunkett of The Orange County Register reports.

Advice: Grove made 12 starts for the big club in 2023, but he was dismissed from the competition for a rotation spot late in spring training and has served as a multi-inning reliever for the Dodgers through the first month of the regular season. The right-hander hasn't covered more than three innings in any of his nine relief appearances to date, so the Dodgers may not ask him to work much longer than that while he picks up his first start of 2024. Fellow multi-inning reliever Ryan Yarbrough is available on three days' rest and could be the Dodgers pitcher who's most likely to factor into any decision. Rotowire.com 46 minutes ago
  • Allows just one run in win
Rodon (2-1) earned the win Saturday against the Brewers after he struck out eight and allowed one run on two hits and a walk over six innings.

Advice: The left-hander delivered seven scoreless frames in his previous start and followed up Saturday with a season-high eight strikeouts in Milwaukee, with the lone blemish against him being a solo homer from Rhys Hoskins in the opening frame. Rodon surrendered 15 long balls in 14 starts last season but has a 0.8 HR/9 through six outings in 2024. It's been an encouraging start to the campaign with a 2.48 ERA, 1.19 WHIP and 30:14 K:BB across 32.2 innings. Rotowire.com 49 minutes ago
  • Beat up early in loss
Soriano (0-4) took the loss against the Twins on Saturday, allowing four runs on three hits and four walks over 1.2 innings while striking out one.

Advice: Soriano struggled right out of the gate, allowing two walks and a hit in the opening frame while also hitting Ryan Jeffers with a pitch. Things only got worse in the second when the right-hander beaned the leadoff man and managed to retire only two of the next six batters he faced before being relieved by Jose Suarez. It marked the shortest outing for Soriano this season and his third time allowing at least three runs in the campaign. He's also issued three or more walks in three consecutive starts.
