Player Notes

  • Regaining playing time
Haniger will start in right field and bat sixth in Thursday's game against the Athletics.

Advice: Haniger appeared to have fallen into a short-side platoon role shortly after Dominic Canzone returned from the injured list in mid-May, but the 33-year-old has now picked up 10 starts in 11 games. Six of those starts have come against right-handed pitchers, and though Canzone and Luke Raley still appear to be the Mariners' preferred corner outfielders against righties, Haniger may have overtaken Mitch Garver on the depth chart at designated hitter. The Mariners will have room for both players in the lineup Thursday against lefty JP Sears, but Haniger is carrying an eight-game hitting streak into the contest, while Garver has gone just 2-for-19 over that same stretch of action. • Sent down to Triple-A
The Reds optioned Ashcraft to Triple-A Louisville on Thursday.

Advice: Ashcraft got off to a decent enough start this season, but things unraveled for him over the last month, as he posted a 6.83 ERA, 1.70 WHIP and 19:12 K:BB over 27.2 frames covering his last six starts. It's not yet clear how the Reds plan to fill his spot in the rotation, but shifting the versatile Nick Martinez back to a starting role is an option. Rotowire.com 5 minutes ago
  • Back from IL
The Reds reinstated Pagan (triceps) from the 15-day injured list Thursday.

Advice: Right triceps tightness has kept Pagan sidelined since late May, and he'll now return to the Reds' bullpen after spending slightly more than the 15-day minimum on the IL. The 33-year-old righty owns a 4.19 ERA and 1.34 WHIP through 19.1 innings on the year, and his return will cause Graham Ashcraft to be optioned back to Triple-A Louisville. Rotowire.com 9 minutes ago
  • Idle against lefty
Canzone is out of the lineup for Thursday's game against the Athletics.

Advice: The lefty-hitting Canzone started in each of the Mariners' last three games but will retreat to the bench for the series finale in Oakland while southpaw JP Sears takes the hill for the Athletics. Mitch Haniger will replace Canzone in right field. Rotowire.com 9 minutes ago
  • Not starting versus lefty
Rojas is out of the lineup for Thursday's game against the Athletics.

Advice: The lefty-hitting Rojas will exit the starting nine while the Athletics bring southpaw JP Sears to the hill. Dylan Moore started at second base in Seattle's last two games but will shift over to third base Thursday while Rojas takes a seat. Rotowire.com 10 minutes ago
  • Red Sox activated RHP Campbell and send him to AAA
Red Sox activated RHP Isaiah Campbell (shoulder) from the 15-day IL and sent him to Triple-A Worcester.

Advice: The 26-year-old was acquired from the Red Sox in the offseason from the Mariners but posted a 12.79 ERA, 2.05 WHIP, and a 5/2 K/BB ratio over 6 1/3 innings before landing on the IL with right shoulder impingement. The right-hander did have a 2.83 ERA in 28 2/3 innings for the Mariners as a rookie last season, so he could be an important addition to the Red Sox bullpen if he can recapture that form in the minors while recovering from his injury. • Tyler Soderstrom starting at 1B for A’s on THU
Tyler Soderstrom is starting at first base for the Athletics against the Mariners on Thursday.

Advice: Soderstrom will hit seventh and play first base with J.D. Davis taking a seat. With Davis hitting just .229 on the year, there’s been a chance for the 22-year-old Soderstrom to carve out more playing time. Unfortunately, he’s not hitting well himself, slashing .174/.309/.304 with a 42 percent strikeout rate. Fantasy managers in deep leagues can keep an eye on Sodestrom to see if he can pick it up and earn more at-bats, but he’s not rosterable in leagues right now. Rotoworld 15 minutes ago
  • Absent from lineup
Langeliers is not in the lineup for Thursday's game against the Mariners.

Advice: Langeliers has received more days off than usual of late, as he's now started just three of the last six games for the Athletics. He does not appear to be dealing with any sort of injury, however. Kyle McCann will do the catching for Oakland on Thursday. Rotowire.com 18 minutes ago
  • Back to bench Thursday
Davis is out of the lineup for Thursday's game against the Mariners.

Advice: Davis had started at first base in both of the Athletics' previous two matchups with right-handed pitchers, going 2-for-7 with a pair of singles. Though the Mariners are bringing another righty (Bryan Woo) to the hill for Thursday's series finale, Davis will cede his spot in the lineup to Tyler Soderstrom. The Athletics could elect to rotate Davis, Soderstrom and Aledmys Diaz at first base until one of the three begins performing well enough to take control of an everyday role.
