• Josiah Gray sharp on Tuesday in rehab outing
Josiah Gray (elbow) allowed one run over six innings on Tuesday in a minor league rehab start for Triple-A Rochester.

Advice: Gray struck out four, didn’t hand out a free pass, and got up to around 90 pitches in his latest rehab outing. The 26-year-old righty should be ready to return to Washington’s starting rotation at some point later this week or early next week. He’s been on the shelf since early April due to a flexor strain in his right elbow. Rotoworld Yesterday, 5:31 pm

  • Gregory Santos (lat) nears rehab assignment
Gregory Santos (lat) is slated to throw a live batting practice session on Friday.

Advice: Santos is expected to head out on a minor league rehab assignment shortly afterwards, assuming he gets through Friday’s session without any issues. The 24-year-old high-leverage specialist has been on the shelf since spring training due to a lat issue. Rotoworld Yesterday, 4:12 pm

  • Bullpen session later this week
Hendriks (elbow) is slated to throw a bullpen session later this week, Christopher Smith of MassLive.com reports.

Advice: It will be his first time throwing off a mound since he underwent Tommy John surgery in early August of last year. Hendriks is hoping to join the Red Sox' relief corps at some point during the final two months of this season, and while that's possible, the bigger-picture goal is having him healthy and ready to roll as a member of Boston's 2025 bullpen. • Liam Hendriks (elbow) to throw bullpen this week
Liam Hendriks (elbow) will progress to throwing a bullpen session this week.

Advice: Hendriks will throw his first bullpen session since undergoing Tommy John surgery last August. The 35-year-old righty isn’t expected to be ready to contribute for Boston until the outset of next season, but this is a notable step forward in his lengthy rehabilitation process. • Set to pitch Wednesday
Tigers manager A.J. Hinch said Tuesday that Montero will be called up from Triple-A Toledo to pitch Wednesday against the Phillies, though it hasn't been decided whether the right-hander will start or work out of the bullpen as a primary pitcher, Jason Beck of MLB.com reports.

Advice: The 23-year-old joined the Tigers ahead of Tuesday's contest and is set to make his second MLB appearance in Wednesday's series finale. Montero made his big-league debut in late May and surrendered four runs on five hits with five strikeouts across 4.1 innings. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 1:16 pm
  • Likely to start Wednesday
Montero is expected to start Wednesday's game against the Phillies, Cody Stavenhagen of The Athletic reports.

Advice: While the Tigers haven't announced anything yet, they are listing Wednesday's starter as TBD and Montero was spotted in the clubhouse at Comerica Park on Tuesday. Mason Englert is expected to be optioned to Triple-A Toledo in a corresponding move. Montero, 23, allowed four runs in 4.1 innings in his major-league debut versus the Pirates last month. It would appear Wednesday's appearance will be another spot start for the righty and he'll head back to Toledo after the game. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 12:16 pm
  • Strong showing in live BP
Santos (lat) came away from his live batting practice session Saturday feeling very encouraged after deploying his sinker/slider combination, MLB.com reports.

Advice: Santos faced rookies Ryan Bliss and Tyler Locklear before Saturday's game in Miami and flummoxed both players consistently, not allowing either to put the ball in play over the quick 10-pitch session. Santos is slated to throw another bullpen session during the Mariners' current three-game series at Tropicana Field against the Rays, with another live batting practice a possibility in the days following. Assuming he continues free of setbacks through those sessions, Santos would then be set to begin a fairly lengthy rehab assignment. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 9:48 am

  • Making rehab appearance Tuesday
Gray (elbow) will make his next rehab start for Triple-A Rochester on Tuesday, Bobby Blanco of MASNSports.com reports.

Advice: Gray is expected to work around six innings or 90 pitches Tuesday after firing five innings and 79 pitches in his last minor-league rehab start Wednesday with Double-A Harrisburg. If all goes according to plan, Gray could return from the 15-day injured list and slot back into the Washington rotation following Tuesday's outing. Rotowire.com Monday, 4:34 pm

  • Red Sox call up Josh Winckowski from AAA
Red Sox recalled RHP Josh Winckowski from Triple-A Worcester.

Advice: The Red Sox have used Winckowski mostly out of the bullpen this season, but he started in six of his seven appearances at Triple-A while posting a 2.87 ERA, 1.24 WHIP, and a 19/11 K/BB ratio in 31 1/3 innings. He will likely return to a multi-inning relief role for the Red Sox. Brad Keller was sent to Triple-A in a corresponding move. Rotoworld Monday, 12:19 pm
