• Working as reserve infielder
Williams went 1-for-4 with a stolen base Thursday against the Brewers.

Advice: The 25-year-old was in the lineup for the 10th time this season, as he stepped in at second base while Jared Triolo shifted to third in place of a resting Ke'Bryan Hayes. Williams has at least one hit in all but one of his starts this season, but he remains a bench option for Pittsburgh despite hitting .323 (10-for-31). Rotowire.com 33 minutes ago
  • Reaches three times, swipes base
Betts went 2-for-3 with a double, a walk, a run and a stolen base against the Nationals in Thursday's 2-1 victory.

Advice: Betts scored the decisive run in the contest by walking, swiping second base and crossing the plate on a Freddie Freeman double in the eighth inning. Betts seems to be running more frequently so far this season -- the stolen base was his sixth of the campaign through 27 contests, putting him well on pace to reach 20 steals for the first time since 2018. That has to be sweet music to his fantasy managers' ears, and Betts is paying huge dividends in other areas as well, slashing .374/.477/.636 with six homers, 21 RBI and 27 runs. • Smashes long ball in loss
Kim went 1-for-5 with a two-run home run against Colorado in a loss Thursday.

Advice: Kim's third-inning blast gave San Diego a short-lived three-run lead. The long ball was his fourth of the season and just his second extra-base hit over his past eight contests. Kim has added 17 RBI, 17 runs, seven steals and a .238/.339/.436 slash line through 119 plate appearances. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 11:12 pm

  • Picks up steal in win
Rocchio went 1-for-3 with a stolen base in Thursday's 6-4 win over the Red Sox.

Advice: Rocchio has gone 3-for-12 over his last four contests and continues to see a starting role at shortstop. He's yet to do much with the steady at-bats, slashing .205/.280/.301 with two steals on three attempts, four RBI, 10 runs scored, seven doubles and no home runs through 23 contests. With Gabriel Arias batting .280 in a utility role, it's unclear how much longer Rocchio will go relatively unchallenged for his spot in the lineup. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 8:01 pm
  • Orelvis Martinez continues mashing at Triple-A
Blue Jays INF prospect Orelvis Martinez launched a three-run homer on Thursday for Triple-A Buffalo.

Advice: Martinez has homered seven times in his last nine games and continues to make a compelling case to get the call to Toronto. The 22-year-old slugger is batting .325 (27-for-83) with a 1.060 OPS through 21 games so far. Rotoworld Yesterday, 7:24 pm

  • Expected back Friday
Merrill (groin) is expected to return to the lineup Friday, Kevin Acee of the San Diego Union-Tribune reports.

Advice: Merrill was scratched Thursday but the issue was deemed precautionary. He spoke to reporters following the Padres' loss and said he feels fine and is adjusting to the rigors of the MLB schedule. While Merrill is expected to return Friday, it will be worth confirming he is in the lineup as San Diego opens a series against the Phillies. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 6:46 pm

  • Vaughn Grissom unlikely to return this weekend
Vaughn Grissom (hamstring) went 1-for-4 with two strikeouts on Thursday in a minor league rehab game for Triple-A Worcester.

Advice: Red Sox manager Alex Cora told reporters Thursday that it’s unlikely Grissom will return this weekend, but added that he’s getting close to making his season debut. The 23-year-old infielder figures to take over as Boston’s everyday second baseman upon arrival. Rotoworld Yesterday, 6:17 pm

  • Homers in loss
Smith started at shortstop and went 2-for-4 with a solo home run in Thursday's 4-3 loss to Seattle.

Advice: Smith launched his first homer of the season in the fourth inning, which tied the game momentarily before the Mariners plated two a half-inning later. He got the start at shortstop while primary starter Corey Seager served as DH a day after he left a game with a bruised shin. If Seager is limited to DH for a bit, Smith will be the primary fill-in at short. If Seager is ready for a defensive role, then Smith will go back to sharing third base with Ezequiel Duran. Smith is batting .292/.393/.417 over 84 plate appearances, much better than his previous two MLB seasons would indicate. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 5:59 pm

  • Hitless as DH
Seager started at designated hitter and went 0-for-3 with a walk in Thursday's 4-3 loss to the Mariners.

Advice: Seager, who was removed from Wednesday's game with a bruised shin, was available a day later for DH duties. It's unclear if he'll be limited to DH for a stretch. If so, Josh Smith will fill in at shortstop. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 5:52 pm
