• Marlins bring back Kent Emanuel on Sunday
Marlins selected the contract of LHP Kent Emanuel from Triple-A Jacksonville.

Advice: Emanuel returns for another stint with Miami after being sent outright to the minors a handful of times earlier this season. The 32-year-old southpaw has made four relief appearances for the Marlins so far. Rotoworld Sunday, 8:20 am

Sears (4-7) took the loss against the Twins on Saturday, allowing eight runs on nine hits and no walks while striking out one batter over 1.1 innings.

Advice: Sears was wild in the first inning, as a pair of hit-by-pitches contributed to a Twins run, though he was able to escape the frame without additional damage. Things got much worse for the lefty in the second, when he allowed six straight batters to reach base to open the frame and was pulled with just one out after six runs had crossed the plate. One more Twins runner scored following his departure, resulting in a season-worst eight runs being charged to Sears' ledger. This was by far the hurler's shortest and worst start of the campaign, and the collapse vaulted his season ERA from 4.25 to 5.04. Rotowire.com Saturday, 9:59 pm

  • JP Sears roughed up for eight runs in 1 1/3 innings
JP Sears was shellacked for eight runs in just 1 1/3 innings to pick up a loss Saturday to the Twins.

Advice: Oof magoof. Sears gave up nine hits to the Twins on Sunday as well, but that was over 4 1/3 innings. Eight of the runs came in the second frame in a start that showed what can happen when Sears doesn’t have his best command. The poor results of the last two outings have seen his ERA balloon to 5.04, but he’ll get a chance to turn it around next weekend against the Diamondbacks. Rotoworld Saturday, 3:41 pm

  • Marlins outright Kent Emanuel to Triple-A
Marlins sent LHP Kent Emanuel outright to Triple-A Jacksonville.

Advice: The 32-year-old left-hander had been designated for assignment on Wednesday, but he passed through waivers unclaimed and will continue to function as extra bullpen depth for the Marlins. Emanuel holds a 7.56 ERA, 1.56 WHIP and a 6/3 K/BB ratio over 8 1/3 innings with the Marlins this season. Rotoworld Friday, 3:47 pm

  • Strikes out eight in win
Quintana (3-5) earned the win against the Cubs on Friday, allowing one unearned run on four hits and one walk with eight strikeouts over 6.1 innings.

Advice: Quintana allowed an unearned run in the first inning but cruised from there with plenty of run support, as the Mets scored 11 runs in the first four frames. The southpaw surpassed the season-high six strikeouts he recorded June 15 in his last outing, and he registered his second consecutive victory and quality start. On the season, Quintana owns a 4.58 ERA, 1.32 WHIP and 58:26 K:BB over 78.2 innings and lines up to face the Astros next week. Rotowire.com Friday, 3:11 pm
  • Zac Gallen to throw another sim game on Monday
Zac Gallen (hamstring) is expected to throw around 70 pitches in another simulated game on Monday.

Advice: Assuming all goes well with that session, the expectation is that he’ll rejoin the Diamondbacks’ rotation next weekend against the Athletics. The 28-year-old hurler had posted a 3.12 ERA, 1.15 WHIP and a 60/15 K/BB ratio over 57 2/3 innings through his first 11 starts. Rotoworld Friday, 3:03 pm

  • Jose Quintana strikes out eight in beating Cubs
Jose Quintana held the Cubs to an unearned run over 6 1/3 innings and struck out eight in Friday’s win.

Advice: After the Mets scored three runs in the top of the first, the Cubs, aided by a Mark Vientos error, appeared poised to come right back, loading the bases with no outs in the bottom of the inning. Alas, that’s not the way it worked out. Christopher Morel grounded into a run-scoring double play, and it proved to be the only run the Cubs would get all day. It’s the first time this season Quintana has gone without allowing an earned run. It’s also the second straight start in which he’s topped his season high for strikeouts; he hadn’t had more than four before fanning six Padres last week. Back-to-back victories have moved him to 3-5 with a 4.58 ERA. Rotoworld Friday, 2:36 pm
  • Zac Gallen (hamstring) to throw sim game next week
Zac Gallen (hamstring) is scheduled to throw another simulated game early next week.

Advice: The hope here is that Gallen will be ready to be activated, without requiring a minor league rehab assignment, after next week’s simulated game. The 28-year-old righty has been on the shelf since late May after suffering a Grade 1 right hamstring strain. Rotoworld Thursday, 5:46 pm

  • Another sim game coming next week
Gallen (hamstring) is scheduled to throw another simulated game early next week and could be reinstated from the 15-day injured list shortly thereafter, Theo Mackie of The Arizona Republic reports.

Advice: After tossing 31- and 37-pitch bullpen sessions last week, Gallen advanced to facing hitters in a simulated game Tuesday. Gallen's strained right hamstring apparently responded well to the workout, but the Diamondbacks will still have him toss another sim game during the upcoming week before signing off on his return to the rotation. If all goes well during his second sim game, Gallen could return at some point during the Diamondbacks' series in Oakland next weekend. Rotowire.com Thursday, 8:20 am
