    • Hitting bench Wednesday
Mountcastle is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Cardinals, Jake Rill of MLB.com reports.

Advice: After playing the final three innings of Tuesday's suspended game earlier Wednesday and finishing 1-for-3 in Baltimore's 3-1 loss, Mountcastle will get a breather for the regularly scheduled game. Ryan O'Hearn will step in for Mountcastle at first base. Rotowire.com 13 minutes ago
    • Ryan Mountcastle takes a seat Wednesday
Ryan Mountcastle is out of the Orioles’ lineup Wednesday for the third time in five days.

Advice: The Orioles are DHing Adley Rutschman today, taking away Mountcastle’s spot. Mountcastle is in a 1-for-24 slump that’s dropped his OPS from .842 to .733. He’d be playing through it on practically any other team, but the stacked Orioles are treating him like a role player. Rotoworld 22 minutes ago
    • Blows first save
Doval gave up two unearned runs on two hits and a walk in two-thirds of an inning Tuesday to blow his first save of the season in a 7-6 extra-inning loss to the Pirates. He struck out one.

Advice: The Giants rolled into the ninth inning with a 6-2 lead, but after Luke Jackson put two runners aboard with one out, Doval got the call and coaxed a potential double-play grounder from Andrew McCutchen, only for Marco Luciano to boot it and pave the way for a Pirates rally. Doval's control has taken a step backward this season, as he has a 15.7 percent walk rate compared to a 9.3 percent mark in 2023, but he still carries a 2.89 ERA to go with his 1.45 WHIP, 25:13 K:BB through 18.2 innings and eight saves. • Finds power in win
Alvarez went 2-for-4 with a solo home run and a walk in Tuesday's 6-5 win over the Angels.

Advice: Alvarez went back-to-back with Kyle Tucker in the first inning for his first home run since May 9. After slumping a bit earlier this month, his bat has heated back up. Alvarez now has at least a hit in 10 of his last 12 games and is slashing .340/.404/.553 with three RBI, seven runs and a 5:11 BB:K over that span. Rotowire.com Today, 4:36 am
    • Punches out seven
Littell didn't factor into the decision Tuesday against Boston, allowing two runs on three hits and one walk across 5.2 innings. He struck out seven.

Advice: Littell fared better against the Red Sox the second time around, holding them to three hits Tuesday after yielding seven hits and four runs to Boston in his last start. Though the 28-year-old did surrender a solo homer to Jarren Duran, he tied his season high in strikeouts and fewer than two batters for the sixth time in his last seven starts. Littell hasn't gone deeper than six innings this season but owns a 3.42 ERA and a 1.25 WHIP across 10 appearances. He's scheduled for a home start against the Athletics next Tuesday. • Records two hits in return
Swanson (knee) went 2-for-4 with a double and a run scored in Tuesday's 4-3, extra-inning win over Atlanta.

Advice: Swanson was activated from the 10-day injured list Monday night and he made his return to the lineup Tuesday after missing two weeks. The shortstop hit the ground running against his former team, though he's been off to a slow start overall with just a .218 batting average across 38 games. Swanson should still see regular playing time moving forward despite his struggles, and he's talented enough to heat up in a hurry. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 8:10 pm

    • Perez has two-hit night in win over Tigers
Salvador Perez went 2-for-5 with one RBI in Tuesday’s win over the Tigers.

Advice: The real story of the night was Bobby Witt Jr.'s two-homer, six RBI performance, but Perez also managed two hits, with his first coming on a single that scored Witt Jr. Perez now has 39 RBI on the season and has hit safely in seven straight games. He’s slashing .324/.387/.500 in May and has eight extra-base hits on the month. Rotoworld Yesterday, 7:26 pm
    • Zack Littell strikes out seven in loss to Red Sox
Zack Littell allowed two earned runs over 5 2/3 innings in Tuesday’s loss to the Red Sox.

Advice: Littell was pulled with two outs in the sixth inning, which came after a solo homer by Jarren Durran. The veteran righty was solid for much of the afternoon, allowing just three hits and one walk while striking out seven batters. Littell wasn’t in line for the win after leaving with the game tied but he will have a chance to earn his third win of the season in his next start on Tuesday against the Athletics. • Cleared for batting practice
Conforto (hamstring) has been cleared to take on-field batting practice, Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area reports.

Advice: Conforto landed on the 10-day injured list just over a week ago a right hamstring strain. Taking batting practice is certainly a positive step in his recovery, although running will be a bigger hurdle for him to clear and it's uncertain when he might be ready for that. Conforto is eligible for activation Wednesday, but it would appear he'll need a little more time than that. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 2:02 pm
