• Jordan Montgomery shaky in start against Reds
Jordan Montgomery allowed three runs over 5 1/3 innings while not qualifying for a decision against the Reds on Monday.

Advice: Montgomery allowed six hits with three walks, and he was able to strike out seven. He allowed a two-run double in the second inning to Spencer Steer, and the third run came after the southpaw had left the contest on a Mike Ford single. This wasn’t close to the strong outing he had Wednesday against the Reds, but there were some good moments and a few punchouts to help. He’s now the owner of a 4.76 ERA, with a chance to lower that number against the Tigers on Sunday. Rotoworld Yesterday, 10:04 pm
  • Jalen Beeks walks bases loaded, gets save anyway
Jalen Beeks protected a one-run lead in the ninth for his fourth save Monday against the Padres.

Advice: Beeks walked three in the frame before a double-play ball from Manny Machado ended the game. Beeks is pretty clearly the closer in Colorado at the moment, but pick him up at your own risk. Rotoworld Yesterday, 9:52 pm

  • Randy Vásquez allows five runs, fans none in loss
Randy Vásquez was tagged for five runs and eight hits in 3 2/3 innings Monday in a loss to the Rockies.

Advice: Vasquez, who has lost both of his starts since replacing Joe Musgrove, was probably somewhat unlucky to give up eight hits, but he also didn’t strike out a single batter, which isn’t good. The Padres might want to try someone else next time through the rotation. Rotoworld Yesterday, 9:52 pm

  • Matthew Liberatore pulled in fourth vs. Angels
Matthew Liberatore was charged for four runs while working 3 1/3 innings in a no-decision Monday against the Angels.

Advice: Liberatore was given the chance to start Monday against a not-so-good Los Angeles lineup, but he didn’t take advantage of the situation. The southpaw was able to get out of the first two innings unscathed, but he gave up a four-spot in the third while picking up just a single strikeout in the contest. Liberatore may start again, but his fantasy value is limited, particularly since he’s not fully stretched out. Rotoworld Yesterday, 9:33 pm
  • Jose Soriano blanks Cardinals into sixth inning
Jose Soriano blanked the Cardinals over 5 1/3 innings with six strikeouts, but he didn’t factor in the decision Monday.

Advice: Soriano deserved better, as he allowed just two hits throughout the outing. He did issue three walks, but anytime there was traffic the 25-year-old was able to make a key pitch to get out of the jam. Soriano lowers his ERA to 3.72, and for the most part, he’s looked like a competent starter — albeit one who has limitations in fantasy because of his poor team behind him and a likely inning limit. • George Kirby blanks Royals over seven in victory
George Kirby held the Royals to three hits with six strikeouts in seven shutout innings to help the Mariners to a win Monday by a 6-2 score.

Advice: After struggling for the majority of his start against the Twins, Kirby bounced back nicely. As is usually the case, he didn’t put on any runners via walk, and he pounded the strike zone with 68-of-101 pitches going for strikes. When Kirby doesn’t have his best stuff/command the results can be problematic. He usually does. Kirby will face the Orioles next. Rotoworld Yesterday, 9:17 pm
  • Brady Singer struggles in loss to Mariners
Brady Singer was charged for four runs over five innings while picking up a loss Monday to the Mariners.

Advice: Singer was in constant trouble Monday, as he allowed nine hits with one walk against six strikeouts. He gave up a long homer to Luke Raley in the second, and two more runs were surrendered by the right-hander in the third. Singer has been solid for the overwhelming majority of 2024, but this wasn’t his night. A good chance to rebound comes Sunday against the Athletics, assuming the rotation order doesn’t change. • Works two innings in rehab outing
Mata (hamstring) began a rehab assignment in the rookie-level Florida Complex League on Monday and struck out two over two innings while allowing one run on three hits and no walks.

Advice: The 25-year-old Mata has yet to make his big-league debut, but because he has no minor-league options remaining, he'll eventually join the Red Sox once he completes what will likely be a lengthy rehab assignment across multiple affiliates. Mata, who is working his way back from a right hamstring strain, has worked almost exclusively as a starter during his time in the minors, but he'll presumably be in store for a low-leverage, multi-inning role out of the Red Sox bullpen upon his return from the 15-day injured list. • Moving rehab to Double-A
Peterson (hip) will make his next rehab start with Double-A Binghamton on Tuesday or Wednesday, Tim Britton of The Athletic reports.

Advice: The 28-year-old southpaw has made three rehab starts for Single-A St. Lucie, posting a dazzling 16:1 K:BB over 8.2 scoreless innings, and he appears ready for tougher competition as he completes his recovery from offseason hip surgery. Peterson is eligible to come off the injured list May 27, but the Mets rotation is crowded at the moment with prospect Christian Scott now in the majors and Tylor Megill (shoulder) poised to be activated from the 15-day injured list this week. Peterson has a minor-league option remaining, so he may get sent to Triple-A Syracuse once he's activated. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 7:52 am
