• Weathers falls apart in 4th against Nationals
Ryan Weathers allowed six runs on five hits in four innings in a no-decision against the Nationals on Sunday.

Advice: Weathers had allowed no runs on one hit over the first three innings, but the wheels fell off in the fourth inning when Weathers allowed five runs on four hits and a walk. He was brought out for the fifth inning but hit the first batter he faced and was removed from the game. It’s hard to punish the young lefty too much for one bad inning, and the injuries throughout the Marlins’ staff mean that it’s likely Weathers will face the A’s next week. He should bounceback in that spot. Rotoworld Today, 2:32 pm

  • Throws bullpen session
Javier (neck) threw a bullpen session Sunday, Brian McTaggart of MLB.com reports.

Advice: The right-hander landed on the injured list last Sunday with neck discomfort, but it's encouraging he's back on the mound a week later. Javier will be eligible to be activated during next weekend's three game series versus the Mariners, though it remains to be seen if he's game ready at that point. Rotowire.com Today, 2:30 pm

  • Corbin struggles against Marlins on Sunday
Patrick Corbin allowed seven runs (four earned) on eight hits in four innings in a no-decision against the Marlins.

Advice: Corbin’s slider was good, posting a 43 percent whiff rate on the day, but he also struggled to locate it for called strikes and none of the other pitches were fooling the Marlins’ hitters on Sunday. Corbin now has a 6.82 ERA this season and can’t be trusted against any offense, including the Blue Jays next weekend. Rotoworld Today, 2:29 pm

  • Roughed up in loss
Wacha (1-3) was saddled with the loss Sunday, allowing four runs on nine hits over 5.2 innings against the Tigers. He struck out three.

Advice: Wacha was given an early one-run lead before he even took the hill but gave up three runs in the first two innings and four total while the Royals were only able to support him with that one first-inning tally. The veteran righty entered the day having allowed just two home runs over his first 28.1 innings but was tagged for two homers and two doubles amongst the nine hits allowed. Wacha's next start is tentatively scheduled to take place next week during a weekend set at home against the Rangers. Rotowire.com Today, 2:24 pm

  • Punches out 10 in win
Dunning (3-2) earned the win after he pitched 5.1 innings, allowing two runs (one earned) on three hits while striking out 10 in Sunday's 4-3 win over the Reds.

Advice: Dunning was able to get back into the win column for the first time since April 12, recording a season-high 10 punchouts in the process. The right-hander tossed five scoreless frames before ultimately being tagged with a pair of runs in the top of the sixth, one of which was unearned. Dunning also avoided giving up a home run in the outing, making it his first start in 2024 that he was able to do so. The 29-year-old now owns a 4.13 ERA and he's tentatively set to be back on the mound Saturday in Kansas City. Rotowire.com Today, 2:22 pm

  • Paul Blackburn hit hard in no-decision against BAL
Paul Blackburn allowed six runs on seven hits in four innings in a no-decision against the Orioles on Sunday.

Advice: It likely wasn’t a game you were starting Blackburn in, but the righty did have five strikeouts to just one walk, while producing a 33 percent whiff rate. His four-seamer was a real problem on Sunday, struggling to find the zone and getting hit incredibly hard. He now has a 3.34 ERA on the season but could remain a deep-league streamer next week against Miami thanks to the weak opponent and his current whiff skills. Rotoworld Today, 2:21 pm

  • Albert Suárez inconsistent in no-decision
Albert Suárez allowed four runs on seven hits in four innings in a no-decision against the A’s.

Advice: Suárez struck out six and walked just one while posting a 35 percent whiff rate and 33 percent CSW, which is good news. His fastball continued to perform well with 11 whiffs on 26 swings; however, it did also give up a few loud hits, and the cutter and changeup both got hit hard at times on Sunday as well. Suárez remains more of a streamer despite the four-seam propelling him to some solid starts in his first few turns in the rotation. With John Means and Kyle Bradish nearing a return, his time in the rotation could be coming to a close, and he wouldn’t be a recommended start next week against the Yankees either. He can be dropped in most shallow formats. Rotoworld Today, 2:19 pm

  • Erick Fedde pitches into ninth in defeating Rays
Erick Fedde limited the Rays to two runs in 8 1/3 innings and struck out nine as the White Sox completed a three-game sweep with a 4-2 win on Sunday.

Advice: That’s 20 strikeouts in two games and 39 in six starts this season for Fedde. He struck out 14 batters in his final six starts for the Nationals in 2022 before getting non-tendered and going to pitch in Korea for a year. Overall, he’s 2-0 with a 2.60 ERA. It doesn’t seem like he should remain quite this good and the fact that he’s on such a bad team is going to take a toll on his fantasy value, but he’s definitely a much-improved pitcher from his Nationals days. • Wacha hit around by the Tigers on Sunday
Michael Wacha allowed four runs on nine hits in 5 2/3 innings in a loss to the Tigers.

Advice: The veteran also struck out three and walked nobody. The changeup was really the only pitch working for Wacha today, and even though that usually leads the way for him, Wacha wasn’t able to get much help from his other pitches, including a curve that didn’t even find the strike zone 30 percent of the time. Wacha doesn’t have a high ceiling, but his floor is usually a little safer than this; he just needs to maintain his command. He gets a tough matchup against the Rangers next week.
