  • Ranger Suarez earns win vs. Mets
    Ranger Suarez fought for the win in what was his worst start in weeks. He lasted five innings, walked two, and struck out three in a win over the Mets Wednesday night. Both runs he allowed were unearned.

    Advice: This felt more like the Ranger Suarez of old, nibbling around the zone and unable to put many away. He was able to work out of trouble effectively as the Mets had men on base in four out of five innings and could not start a rally. Suarez’s step forward this season should still be seen as legitimate, but keep an eye on his command as he fell behind 1-0 to 16 of the 33 hitters he faced. Rotoworld 8 minutes ago
     
  • Joey Lucchesi falls apart in Philadelphia
    Joey Lucchesi allowed five earned runs on five hits in 4 ⅓ innings in a loss Wednesday in Philadelphia. He also walked four and struck out just two.

    Advice: Lucchesi was recalled for the spot-start in this one as the Mets transitioned to a six-man rotation. He was cruising until a disastrous fifth inning in which he walked three before the Phillies opened the flood gates. It’s unlikely Lucchesi gets another turn in the rotation after this start with Tylor Megill due back soon and Adrian Houser supposedly returning to a starting role. Rotoworld 16 minutes ago
     
  • Picks up first win
    Thompson (1-1) recorded Wednesday's win over Cincinnati, allowing one hit and striking out one over a scoreless eighth inning.

    Advice: Thompson, who made an eighth consecutive scoreless appearance, has been the Diamondbacks' best reliever through the first month-and-a-half. The side-arming right-hander sports a 1.00 ERA with just two walks while striking out 13 over 18 innings. He leads the team with six holds. Rotowire.com 41 minutes ago

    Kopech walked two and struck out two in a scoreless ninth inning Wednesday to record his fifth save of the season in a 2-0 win over the Nationals.

    Advice: After working a scoreless frame in the nightcap of Tuesday's doubleheader in a non-save situation, Kopech was called upon again and labored through 33 pitches (20 strikes) before finally getting the job done. The last time the right-hander pitched on back-to-back days, he got the next four days off, so Kopech could be unavailable at least until the weekend.     Crochet (4-4) picked up the win in Wednesday's 2-0 victory over the Nationals, giving up three hits and three walks over five scoreless innings. He struck out six.

    Advice: The left-hander wasn't exactly efficient, tossing only 56 of 89 pitches for strikes, but Crochet lasted long enough to qualify for the win. After a rough stretch in April, the 24-year-old has allowed only three runs over his last three starts (1.59 ERA) with a stellar 24:1 K:BB in 17 innings.   • Makes season debut Wednesday
    Brieske tossed a scoreless inning of relief in Wednesday's 2-0 loss to the Marlins. He allowed a hit and a walk, while striking out one.

    Advice: Brieske was recalled from Triple-A Toledo on Monday and made his 2024 debut for the Tigers in this one. The righty, who made 15 starts for Detroit back in 2022, worked exclusively in relief for Toledo, where he compiled a strong 2.95 ERA and 22:11 K:BB over 21.2 innings.     Corbin (1-4) took the loss Wednesday, allowing two runs on six hits and two walks over 5.2 innings as the Nationals were downed 2-0 by the White Sox. He failed to strike out a batter.

    Advice: The veteran southpaw wasn't fooling anyone as he managed only five swinging strikes on 82 pitches, but Corbin was able to minimize the damage against him, coming one out short of his second quality start of the season.     Musgrove (elbow) could return from the 15-day injured list to start Sunday's game in Atlanta, Jeff Sanders of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports.

    Advice: Dylan Cease is available to pitch Sunday on his normal four days' rest, but the Padres appear to be leaving the door open for Musgrove to return Sunday if he comes out of his bullpen session Wednesday no worse for the wear.     Advice: The right-hander dealt with back tightness in his most recent start Monday against the Cubs and was lifted after five scoreless innings, but he's apparently feeling better two days later. Assuming he's able to make it out of his between-starts bullpen session without incident, Lopez shouldn't face any major workload restrictions when he toes the rubber Sunday. After spending most of the last two seasons as a reliever, Lopez has exceeded expectations with his move to a starting role in his first year in Atlanta, going 2-1 with a 1.34 ERA, 1.09 WHIP and 40:16 K:BB in 40.1 innings through his first seven outings.
