• Washington: José Soriano unlikely to need IL stint
José Soriano is dealing with an infection.

Advice: Angels manager Ron Washington elaborated Tuesday that there’s no concern that Soriano will require a trip to the injured list, but likely won’t take the ball until next week. The 25-year-old was scratched from Monday’s start against the Brewers due to abdominal pain. He’s presumably day-to-day for now. Rotoworld Tuesday, 3:40 pm

  • Dealing with infection
Soriano (abdomen) is dealing with an infection according to manager Ron Washington, Sam Blum of The Athletic reports.

Advice: Soriano had his turn in the rotation skipped Monday due to abdominal pain and he's expected to be skipped again as he nurses an infection. Manager Ron Washington said Tuesday there's not a concern that Soriano will need to be placed on the injured list, so he'll likely be back before the end of June. Rotowire.com Tuesday, 3:28 pm

  • José Soriano gets scratched due to abdominal pain
José Soriano was scratched from his scheduled start Monday due to abdominal pain.

Advice: Zach Plesac will go right into the rotation and start after being called up this afternoon. Hopefully, this is an illness and not something else abdomen-related for Soriano. Then again, the only way he’s going to finish this season as a starter is if he does miss a chunk of time on the injured list. Rotoworld Monday, 4:28 pm

  • Scratched from start
Soriano was scratched from his scheduled start Monday against the Brewers due to lower abdominal pain.

Advice: Soriano was expected to toe the rubber for the series opener with Milwaukee, but he'll now be forced to take a seat. The severity of his injury is unknown, but in the meantime, Zach Plesac was called up from Triple-A Salt Lake to make a spot start in Soriano's stead. Soriano had a 2.90 ERA, 1.09 WHIP and 37 strikeouts in 49.2 innings over his last eight starts. He has gone six-plus innings in four straight starts and boasts an elite 60.1 percent groundball rate on the season. Rotowire.com Monday, 4:26 pm

  • Logs quality start in no-decision
Winn did not factor into the decision in Saturday's 4-3 loss to the Angels, allowing three runs on five hits and two walks with six strikeouts over six innings.

Advice: Winn surrendered a solo home run to Mickey Moniak in the second inning then allowed a game-tying two-run homer to Logan O'Hoppe in the sixth. While he stumbled late, Winn registered 17 swinging strikes on 91 pitches and logged his first quality start since May 28. On the season, Winn now owns a 6.66 ERA, 1.33 WHIP and 46:19 K:BB in 11 starts and tentatively lines up to face the Cardinals next week. Rotowire.com Saturday, 7:49 pm

  • Early exit in Saturday's loss
Pallante (2-3) took the loss Saturday, giving up two runs (one earned) on five hits over 3.1 innings as the Cardinals were downed 5-1 by the Cubs. He struck out four without walking a batter.

Advice: The right-hander didn't pitch badly, blanking Chicago through three innings, but Pallante got lifted after 59 pitches (40 strikes) with two runners on base in the fourth and had to watch Chris Roycroft let them both come around to score. Pallante has been effective in three of four outings since moving into the rotation, posting a 3.64 ERA, 1.38 WHIP and 15:7 K:BB through 17.1 innings over that stretch. He lines up to make his next start at home next week against the Giants. Rotowire.com Saturday, 5:29 pm

  • Keaton Winn strikes out six in no-decision vs. Angels
Keaton Winn allowed three runs with six strikeouts over six innings in a no-decision against the Angels on Saturday.

Advice: Winn worked around a double in the first inning, then gave up a solo homer to Mickey Moniak in the second. Winn was hurt by the long ball again in the sixth, serving up a two-run homer to Logan O’Hoppe that tied the game. He’d be done after six with six strikeouts. The 26-year-old right-hander will take a 6.66 ERA, 1.33 WHIP, and a 46/19 K/BB ratio across 52 2/3 innings into a start against the Cardinals in St. Louis on Thursday. • Kodai Senga (shoulder) throws bullpen on Saturday
Kodai Senga (shoulder) threw around 30 pitches in a successful two-inning bullpen session on Saturday.

Advice: He’ll throw another bullpen early next week and if all goes well with that session, it sounds like Senga will finally be cleared to face live hitters. He’s still going to need several minor league rehab starts before he’s an option to join the Mets’ rotation, but he’s at least taking small steps in the right direction. • Andre Pallante gives up two runs in brief outing
Andre Pallante was charged with two runs (one earned) over 3 1/3 innings on Saturday in a loss to the Cubs.

Advice: Pallante turned in a perfect opening frame before engineering a masterful escape after giving up back-to-back hits to open the second inning. He got into trouble in the fourth inning after giving up consecutive hits to open the frame and was lifted for reliever Chris Roycroft after striking out Ian Happ and wound up being charged with a pair of runs following his departure. He struck out four and didn’t hand out a free pass. The 25-year-old righty figures to continue operating in a swingman-type role for the Cardinals moving forward. Rotoworld Saturday, 1:50 pm
