• Patrick Corbin defeats Red Sox for first victory
Patrick Corbin won for the first time in 2024 after pitching five innings of one-run ball in the Nationals’ 5-1 victory over the Red Sox on Friday.

Advice: The Red Sox had one more hit, one more extra-base hit and three more walks than the Nationals tonight, but they went 1-for-9 with RISP and the Nats went 4-for-8. Corbin gave up seven hits, walked one and struck out four. He has a 3.54 ERA over his last four starts after coming in at 8.06 in his first four. Still, that’s no reason for optimism here. • Tanner Houck gives up three runs in loss to Nats
Tanner Houck dropped to 3-4 after surrendering three runs in seven innings Friday against the Nationals.

Advice: It’s absurd that Houck should have a sub-.500 record with a 2.24 ERA, but the Red Sox have totaled four runs in his four losses. This was not Houck at his best tonight; he gave up 11 hard-hit balls and settled for four strikeouts. He’ll face the Rays next. Rotoworld 12 minutes ago

  • Sharp in second win
Valdez (2-1) earned the win Friday over the Tigers, allowing two runs on six hits and two walks over seven innings. He struck out four.

Advice: Valdez allowed two runs on a Matt Vierling double in the third inning before blanking Detroit over his final four frames en route to his second victory of the year. It's an encouraging bounce-back effort from Valdez, who allowed five runs in a loss to Seattle in his previous start. The left-hander lowered his ERA to 3.64 with a 1.35 WHIP and 23:9 K:BB across five starts (29.2 innings). Valdez is currently scheduled for a home matchup with the A's in his next outing. • Ranger Suárez dominates again in win over Marlins
Ranger Suárez delivered yet another dominant performance in Friday night’s victory over the Marlins, racking up nine strikeouts over seven innings of shutout baseball.

Advice: The 28-year-old southpaw scattered just three hits on the evening while issuing two free passes. While two of the three hits that he allowed were doubles, the Marlins never seriously threatened against him. Suárez got nine swings and misses on 97 pitches on the night, posting an elite CSW of 36 percent. He now sits at 7-0 on the season with an impeccable 1.50 ERA, 0.72 WHIP and a 55/8 K/BB ratio over 54 innings through his first eight starts. He’ll look to keep the good times rolling when he takes the mound against the Mets on Wednesday night. Rotoworld 23 minutes ago

  • Trevor Rogers demolished in loss to Phillies
Trevor Rogers was demolished in Friday night’s loss to the Phillies, giving up five runs (four earned) on nine hits in just 3 1/3 innings of work.

Advice: Woof. Rogers struck out three and walked two during the abbreviated outing. The Phillies scored twice in the second inning — including a solo blast by Nick Castellanos — then really broke it open by scoring three more runs while chasing Rogers in the fourth inning. The 26-year-old southpaw got nine swings and misses on 81 pitches on the night, registering a CSW of 27 percent. He’ll attempt to improve upon his grotesque 6.57 ERA and 1.86 WHIP when he takes on the struggling offense of the Tigers on Wednesday in Detroit. It’s the classic, stoppable force meets moveable object scenario. Something has to give. Rotoworld 23 minutes ago

  • Joe Ryan keeps Blue Jays quiet in victory
Joe Ryan pitched seven innings of one-run ball Friday in the Twins’ 3-2 defeat of the Blue Jays.

Advice: The lone run was a 365-foot homer from Isiah Kiner-Falefa. The ball barely rated as hard hit, leaving his bat at 95.5 mph, and was a homer in only 11 ballparks. It’s Ryan’s fourth straight quality start, and he still hasn’t allowed more than three earned runs in a game this season. Alas, the win tonight was only his second. Ryan will face the Yankees next. • Jhoan Duran gets hold against Blue Jays
Jhoan Duran pitched a hitless eighth against the Blue Jays for his third hold Friday.

Advice: Everything seemed great when Duran notched saves in his first two appearances back from the IL, but he’s been asked to pitch the eighth in three of four outings since. It’s strictly a leverage thing, but it’s annoying for us fantasy leaguers. Duran has been practically perfect since being activated, allowing a total of two hits in six scoreless innings. • Griffin Jax earns fifth save for Twins
Griffin Jax recorded his fifth save despite giving up a run in the ninth to the Blue Jays on Friday.

Advice: The Twins again opted to give Jhoan Duran what looked like the tougher assignment in the eighth. Jax came in with a two-run lead in the ninth and allowed a walk and two singles before finishing off the Blue Jays. He’s going to retain some value in deeper mixed leagues if the Twins keep using Duran like this. Rotoworld 33 minutes ago
  • Yusei Kikuchi goes eight in tough loss to Twins
Yusei Kikuchi took a tough loss Friday after limiting the Twins to two runs over eight innings.

Advice: Kikuchi allowed four hits, walked none and struck out three. He currently has a 5.1 K:BB ratio (46/9 in 47 2/3 IP). He came in at 2.4 in his first four years in MLB before finishing at 3.8 in his breakthrough 2023 campaign. Rotoworld 33 minutes ago
