    Max Fried allowed four runs on four hits in seven innings in a loss to the Dodgers on Sunday.

    Advice: Fried pitched well enough on the day, striking out seven and walking three while posting a 20 percent whiff rate and 30 percent CSW. He didn’t have his best command and had a zone rate under 50 percent on the day, but he avoided major damage until giving up a two-run home run to Teoscar Hernandez in the sixth inning.   • Solid over six frames versus Boston
    Ryan (1-2) was tagged with the loss after he pitched six innings, allowing three runs on four hits and a walk while striking out five batters in Sunday's 9-2 defeat to the Red Sox.

    Advice: Ryan tossed three scoreless frames to open his outing Sunday before giving up an RBI double to Rob Refsnyder in the fourth and then a two-run homer to Ceddanne Rafaela in the fifth inning. The right-hander has now recorded three straight quality starts and he has yet to allow more than three runs in any outing this season.   • James Paxton stifles Braves in win on Sunday
    James Paxton allowed one run on five hits in 6 2/3 innings in a win over the Braves on Sunday.

    Advice: Paxton struck out three and walked two on the day with the only damage allowed being a solo home run to Marcell Ozuna in the seventh inning. He had just a 15 percent whiff rate and 17 percent CSW, so it certainly wasn’t a dominant performance, but he pounded the zone and kept the Braves off-balance. He has a solid 3.06 ERA on the season, but will be tough to trust against the Padres next weekend outside of the deepest formats. Rotoworld Today, 5:15 pm

  • Struggles mightily in return
    Manoah did not factor into the decision, allowing seven runs (six earned) on six hits and four walks over four innings Sunday against the Nationals. He struck out six.

    Advice: Manoah struggled with his command throughout, also hitting a batter to allow 11 baserunners and six earned runs including two homers during his first start of the season. It was not the type of start the Blue Jays were hoping to see out of the fourth-year starter, who compiled a 2.59 ERA, 1.01 WHIP and 307 strikeouts over 308.1 innings during his first two seasons but struggled to a 5.87 ERA and 1.74 WHIP over 87.1 innings last season spanning 19 starts. The Blue Jays are hopeful Manoah can return to form this season, but fantasy managers will be wise to proceed with skepticism until the 26-year-old righty starts to show signs that he's working past his funk. His next turn would tentatively be slated for next weekend at home against the Twins, though this performance likely indicates his next start is far from assured. Rotowire.com Today, 5:08 pm
     
  • Jon Gray fans seven in seven fine innings
    Jon Gray held the Royals to two runs in seven innings and struck out seven against the Royals on Sunday.

    Advice: Gray got 17 missed swings today, including 13 on just 34 sliders, and walked none in another excellent outing. Since giving up five runs in his season debut, he’s allowed a total of four earned runs in 36 innings, leaving him with a 2.50 ERA. If history repeats, he’s about due for an injury... it often seems to happen after his stronger stretches like this. Hopefully, that won’t be the case this time around. Rotoworld Today, 4:57 pm
     
  • Daniel Lynch IV goes five scoreless against Rangers
    Daniel Lynch IV blanked the Rangers for five innings in his season debut for the Royals on Sunday.

    Advice: Not bad for a guy who had a 5.86 ERA in Triple-A. This was supposed to be a spot start for Lynch, since Alec March is coming off the IL later this week. We suspect that nothing has changed on that front, but at least Lynch ensured that he’ll get another chance next time the Royals need a starter. Rotoworld Today, 4:57 pm
     
  • Blanks Rangers over five frames
    Lynch tossed five scoreless innings, walking two batters and allowing two hits while striking out six in Sunday's 3-2 extra-inning loss to the Rangers. He did not factor into the decision.

    Advice: Lynch was promoted from Triple-A Omaha ahead of Sunday's start and he certainly stepped up his game, blanking the defending champs over five frames. The left-hander was able to work around three baserunners in the first inning to set the tone and ultimately went on to pitch four more scoreless innings in his first major-league outing of the year. Lynch could remain in the starting rotation for Kansas City for the time being with Alec Marsh (elbow) still unavailable. If he gets another turn in the rotation with the big-league club, Lynch's next start is tentatively set to come on the road against the Angels next weekend. Rotowire.com Today, 4:25 pm
     
  • MacKenzie Gore gives up grand slam in poor outing
    MacKenzie Gore lasted only three innings and allowed six runs — two earned — and six hits Sunday against the Blue Jays.

    Advice: It was Gore’s own error that led to all of the unearned runs. Gore’s secondary pitches weren’t working today; he got just one missed swing on his 32 non-fastballs, and it was a changeup, after three straight fastballs, that Vladimir Guerrero Jr. hit for a grand slam in the second.   • Alek Manoah tagged for seven runs in 2024 debut
    Making his 2024 debut, Alek Manoah gave up seven runs — six earned — in four innings Sunday against the Nationals.

    Advice: Manoah issued a bases-loaded walk in the first, but that run was unearned because of an error to start the inning. He later gave up a homer in the third and five runs after recording the second out of the fourth. The good news is that Manoah had really strong velocity today — his 94.3 mph average on his fastball was up 1.5 mph from last year and also little better than his 2022 average — and he was able to strike out six batters. There might still be some hope here for the future, but we wouldn’t want to be rostering him right now. Rotoworld Today, 4:00 pm
