• Throwing and running
Canzone (shoulder) began a throwing and running program Friday, Daniel Kramer of MLB.com reports.

Advice: General manager Justin Hollander added that the team hopes for Canzone to begin a hitting progression sometime next week, though he is still several weeks out from full baseball activities. The 26-year-old outfielder sprained the AC joint in his left shoulder April 14, and Hollander's comments suggest he is not close to returning anytime soon. Luke Raley and Jonatan Clase should continue splitting time in left field while Canzone works his way back. Rotowire.com 14 minutes ago

  • Vidal Bruján scores lone run in loss to Nationals
Vidal Bruján went 2-for-3 and scored the Marlins’ lone run in Friday night’s loss to the Nationals.

Advice: The 26-year-old infielder led off the third inning with a single off of Trevor Williams. He was then awarded second base on a disengagement violation before racing around to score on an RBI single off the bat of Nick Fortes. The former top prospect is off to a very slow start in 2024, slashing a pitiful .154/.241/.192 with zero homers or stolen bases in his first 29 plate appearances. Rotoworld 27 minutes ago

  • Likely won't return when eligible
General manager Justin Hollander said Friday that Crawford (oblique) likely won't be activated from the injured list when he's eligible May 5, Daniel Kramer of MLB.com reports.

Advice: Crawford was placed on the injured list Thursday with a Grade 1 oblique strain -- the least severe type of strain -- though it appears the 29-year-old shortstop is still facing an extended absence. Hollander didn't provide an exact timeline for Crawford's return, but a 2-to-3 week absence seems to be the best possible scenario. Rotowire.com 55 minutes ago

  • J.P. Crawford (oblique) to miss at least 2-3 weeks
Mariners’ general manager Justin Hollander told reporters on Friday that he expects J.P. Crawford (oblique) to miss at least two or three weeks in a best case scenario.

Advice: Crawford landed on the injured list on Thursday with a right oblique strain. It’s not surprising news, so oblique strains can tend to linger if they aren’t allowed to fully heal, so the Mariners’ will do the prudent thing here and proceed cautiously. Dylan Moore looks like he’ll continue to function as the team’s regular shortstop while Crawford is shelved. Rotoworld Today, 6:03 pm

  • Carlos Correa (intercostal) takes grounders Friday
Carlos Correa (intercostal) took ground balls on the field prior to Friday’s game against the Angels.

Advice: Twins’ manager Rocco Baldelli told reporters earlier in the week that Correa was close to resuming baseball activities, and it’s encouraging to see him back out on the field. The Twins are going to continue to play it cautiously here, but it’s nice to see him taking steps in the right direction. Rotoworld Today, 5:31 pm

  • Padres option Matthew Batten back to Triple-A
Padres optioned INF Matthew Batten to Triple-A El Paso.

Advice: With Manny Machado returning from the paternity list on Friday night, someone needed to get the boot from the active roster and it would appear as though Batten drew the short straw this time. The 28-year-old is just 1-for-3 (.333) with a single in his limited time with the Padres this season. Rotoworld Today, 5:05 pm

  • Junior Caminero (quad) considered day-to-day
Morgan Ensberg, the manager at Triple-A Durham, told reporters on Friday that top prospect Junior Caminero is considered day-to-day after tweaking his quad on Thursday.

Advice: Caminero was lifted from Thursday’s game in the third inning after sustaining the injury. Ensberg explained that he wasn’t going to put Caminero in any jeopardy, so he pulled him as a precaution. The 20-year-old phenom ran and did defensive work without issue on Friday but was getting another night off just to be on the safe side. He could be used off the bench in Friday’s game and should return to the starting lineup on Saturday. Rotoworld Today, 4:50 pm
  • Padres activate Manny Machado from paternity list
Padres activated INF Manny Machado from the paternity list.

Advice: Machado was away from the club over the first half of the week as he welcomed his first child — a healthy baby boy — into the world. The proud papa will start at third base for the first time all season and will bat cleanup against Aaron Nola and the Phillies on Friday evening in San Diego. Rotoworld Today, 4:18 pm
  • Throwing from 135 feet
Yankees manager Aaron Boone said Friday that Dominguez (elbow) has increased his throwing distance to 135 feet, Bryan Hoch of MLB.com reports.

Advice: Dominguez continues to progress in his recovery from Tommy John surgery from last September, and Boone noted that the 21-year-old is "a few weeks" away from playing in a minor-league rehab game. Dominguez appeared in eight games with the Yankees last season, going 8-for-31 with four home runs and seven RBI over that span. Rotowire.com Today, 4:03 pm
