  • Solid effort ends in no-decision
    Gray allowed two runs on five hits and two walks over 7.2 innings in Monday's 7-6 win versus the Marlins. He struck out four and didn't factor in the decision.

    Advice: Gray pitched into the eighth inning for the first time this season and left the game up 4-1, but the bullpen couldn't hold the lead. The four strikeouts were a season low for Gray as he worked fast and efficiently, only needing 84 pitches to record 23 outs. The veteran's ERA now sits at 2.95 with a 1.02 WHIP through 13 starts.   • Neris blows save as Cubs lose 7-6 Monday
    Hector Neris allowed three runs, blew the save and took the loss against the Giants on Monday.

    Advice: The Cubs’ lead evaporated quickly in the ninth inning. With one out, Jorge Soler reached on a catcher interference. After Neris issued a walk to Mike Yastrzemski, Thairo Estrada hit a three-run home run to give the Giants a 7-6 lead. Neris now has four blown saves on the year including two blown saves in his last three opportunities. Neris’ ERA is now 4.73 on the year. His grip on the closer role loosens with every blown save.   • Doval picks up 13th save
    Camilo Doval tossed a scoreless ninth inning and picked up the save against the Cubs on Monday.

    Advice: Doval bounced back to earn the save after allowing four runs and recording only one out in his last appearance on Sunday. His ERA will take some time to recover from that outing, but he lowered it to 4.71 on Monday. Rotoworld Yesterday, 8:40 pm
     
  • Cruises to easy win
    Peterson allowed two runs on four hits and three walks over six innings Monday, striking out six and earning a win over the Rangers.

    Advice: Peterson delivered a quality start as the Mets piled on 14 runs of support in the victory. He's earned three straight wins and has produced a quality start in two of his first four outings this season. He dropped his ERA to 3.97 with a 12:8 K:BB through 22.2 innings.   • Crushed in short outing
    Gray (2-3) allowed nine runs on 11 hits in three-plus innings Monday, striking out two and taking a loss against the Mets.

    Advice: Gray never found his footing Monday and the Mets took advantage. Most of the damage came during a six-run second inning and his night was finished after allowing a two-run shot to Brandon Nimmo in the fourth. Gray had allowed nine earned runs over his previous 50 innings before Monday's brutal outing. His season ERA shot up from 2.17 to 3.31 as a result. Gray's next outing is projected to be in Milwaukee.     Javier Assad allowed one run in five innings and got a no-decision against the Giants on Monday.



    Advice: Assad gave up five hits, walked two and struck out seven. He won four of his first nine starts of the season, but hasn’t won any of his last six starts. Assad struck out at least seven batters for the fourth time in his last five starts. His ERA is now 2.75 on the year. The 26-year-old right-hander is set to face the Mets at home this weekend.

  • Hicks throws five shutout innings against Cubs
    Jordan Hicks threw five shutout innings and got a no-decision against the Cubs on Monday.



    Advice: Hicks gave up four hits, walked four and struck out four. It was a solid start for Hicks, who lowered his ERA to 2.82 on the season with the effort. The converted reliever hasn’t completed six innings in a start since April, but he continues to pitch well while he’s out there. The 27-year-old right-hander is set to face his former team the Cardinals on the road this weekend.

  • Goes six innings in loss
    Spiers (0-1) took the loss Monday versus the Pirates after he gave up four runs on seven hits and no walks over six innings. He struck out five.

    Advice: Spiers gave up five hits and all four runs in the first two innings before settling in nicely. The 26-year-old had impressed as a multi-inning reliever, leading to the opportunity in the rotation. There is no word yet on whether he will get another turn through the rotation, but the 3.20 ERA through 25.1 innings this season should keep him in the conversation.     Advice: Gray gave up 11 hits, walked none and struck out two. Ouch. Gray’s ERA jumped up from 2.17 to 3.31 with this blow up. He probably didn’t deserve that 2.17 ERA to begin with given his xFIP was 3.52 entering Monday’s start. The 32-year-old right-hander will look to bounce back against the Royals at home this weekend.
