    • Goes yard Sunday
Hernandez went 2-for-5 with a solo home run and an additional run scored in Sunday's 6-2 win over the Astros.

Advice: Hernandez gave the Dodgers some breathing room with his eighth-inning blast off Houston reliever Bryan King. This was Hernandez's first homer and first multi-hit effort in his last six games. The outfielder continues to be an engine for Los Angeles, slashing .265/.330/.483 with 22 homers, 69 RBI, 53 runs scored, 20 doubles and four stolen bases through 105 contests this season. • Strong in second start
Ryan (1-0) allowed one run on two hits and three walks while striking out eight over 5.2 innings to earn the win over the Astros on Sunday.

Advice: Ryan was responsible for one run after Alex Vesia allowed a two-run home run to Yainer Diaz in the sixth inning. While he again walked three batters, Ryan has acclimated well to the majors so far through two starts, allowing just two runs (one earned) over 11 innings. Manager Dave Roberts told reporters after the game that Ryan will take his next turn through the rotation even though the Dodgers have two off days next week, Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic reports. That means Ryan can be penciled in for a favorable road start at Oakland next weekend. Rotowire.com Today, 3:34 pm

    • River Ryan electric against Astros
River Ryan allowed just two hits and one earned run across 5 2/3 innings in a 6-2 win over the Astros on Sunday against the Astros. He struck out eight, walked three, and earned the first win of his big league career.

Advice: In one word, woah. Ryan was a marvel to watch in this one. He showed five different pitches to batters from each side of the plate and the Astros were clueless in practically every at-bat. His slider was especially lethal, forcing five swings-and-misses including a very ugly one to strike out Yordan Álvarez in the fourth inning. Missing the quality start by one out is disappointing, but the Dodgers let Ryan work up to 90 pitches so his expected workload should not be an issue going forward. Rotoworld Today, 2:38 pm

    • Returns to minors
The Giants optioned Birdsong to Single-A San Jose on Sunday.

Advice: San Francisco previously optioned Birdsong to Single-A this past Monday, but the rookie right-hander didn't have to miss a turn through the rotation since the Giants were able to recall him from the minors to have him serve as the 27th man for Saturday's doubleheader with the Rockies. Birdsong took the hill for the second game of the twin bill and spun another gem, striking out eight over five shutout innings while the Giants rolled to a 5-0 win. Now that Birdsong has been optioned to the minors again, the Giants would need to place a player on the injured list in a corresponding move in order for the 22-year-old to be eligible to rejoin the big club in fewer than 15 days. Even though Birdsong holds a 2.97 ERA and 30.2 percent strikeout rate in the majors this season, it's unclear if the Giants will have room for him in their rotation. The Giants returned lefty Robbie Ray from the 60-day injured list this past week, and another starter in right-hander Alex Cobb (hip/shoulder) could be ready to come off the 60-day IL during the upcoming week. • Rays activate LHP Springs (elbow) off 60-day IL
Rays activated LHP jeffrey Springs off the 60-day injured list.

Advice: Springs will start Tuesday against the Marlins and make his 2024 debut after missing four months rehabbing from Tommy John surgery. The left-hander was among the best hurlers in baseball prior to his injury, and he’s absolutely worth roster consideration for the final few months of the campaign. Rotoworld Today, 8:31 am
    • Productive from top of order in win
Butler went 2-for-4 with a stolen base and a run in a win over the Angels on Saturday.

Advice: Butler continued to set the table effectively out of the leadoff spot in yet another win for the Athletics, producing his eighth multi-hit effort in the last 10 games. The surging rookie has boosted his batting average and OPS by 55 and 191 points, respectively, in that torrid stretch, and he's now just a pair of steals away from reaching double digits in that category. • Returns from IL
The Rays reinstated Springs (elbow) from the 60-day injured list Sunday.

Advice: Though Springs has been added back to the Rays' 40-man roster and 26-man active roster, he won't make his season debut with the big club until Tuesday against the Marlins, per Ryan Bass of Bally Sports Sun. The upcoming outing against the Marlins will be the left-hander's first in the big leagues since undergoing Tommy John surgery in April of 2023. In his last full season in 2022, he went 9-5 over 25 starts with a 2.46 ERA, 1.07 WHIP and 144:31 K:BB across 135.1 innings. Springs reached five innings and 82 pitches in his final rehab outing with Triple-A Durham this past Thursday, so he shouldn't face any major restrictions with his workload against Miami. • Keeps raking in win
FItzgerald went 1-for-4 with a solo homer in Saturday's win over Colorado.

Advice: Fitzgerald went hitless in his first three trips to the plate before launching a solo shot in his final at-bat to extend San Francisco's lead to five runs. It marked the outfielder's eighth home run in his last 10 games while he also extended his hitting streak to 10 games with the long ball. For the month, Fitzgerald is now batting .390 with 11 extra-base hits, 15 RBI and 13 runs scored. Rotowire.com Today, 8:23 am

    • Giants option Hayden Birdsong to Triple-A
Giants optioned RHP Hayden Birdsong to Low-A San Jose.

Advice: Birdsong was excellent Saturday in his start against the Rockies with five shutout innings, but the Giants will still send the 22-year-old to the minors despite his strong outing and a 2.97 ERA and 38/15 K/BB over 30 1/3 innings. It would be surprising if Birdsong isn’t back with the Giants in the next couple of weeks, and depending on the format, he’s worth the wait. Rotoworld Today, 8:15 am
