    Advice: Spence allowed a two-run single to Isiah Kiner-Falefa in the second inning but otherwise kept Toronto's offense quiet. After tossing a season-high six innings in his last outing, Spence set a new personal best Sunday while delivering his first MLB quality start. He posted a 4.26 ERA through 25.1 innings out of the bullpen before joining Oakland's rotation; through five starts, Spence has registered a 3.12 ERA with an 18:6 K:BB through 26 innings.   • Suffers loss in debut
    Waldrep (0-1) suffered the loss Sunday, allowing seven runs on four hits and four walks over 3.2 innings against the Nationals. He struck out one.

    Advice: Waldrep began his major-league debut well, allowing only a walk over the first three innings. However, the bottom fell out in the fourth when he allowed seven of the nine men he faced to reach base, and he was pulled with two outs and the bases loaded having already allowed four runs. Reliever Aaron Bummer then came on, allowing a double to the next batter, CJ Abrams, clearing the bases and saddling Waldrep with seven earned runs. Despite the ugly result, the 22-year-old prospect looked the part through three and should receive more chances to stick in the rotation for the time being.   • Fans nine in no-decision
    Ragans allowed a run on three hits and a walk over six innings in a no-decision Sunday. He struck out nine during the loss to Seattle.

    Advice: Ragans served up a leadoff home run to J.P. Crawford on just the fourth pitch of the game but was otherwise dominant despite not earning a win. After the homer, Ragans struck out seven of the next 10 batters he faced. It was his second straight quality start and fourth in his last five appearances. He forced a season-high 22 whiffs, including 11 with his changeup. Ragans lowered his ERA to 3.08 alongside a 98:25 K:BB through 79 innings.   • Falls two outs shy of first win
    Herz did not factor into the decision Sunday, allowing two runs on four hits and three walks over 4.1 innings against Atlanta. He struck out five.

    Advice: Herz received a second start after struggling in his debut against the Mets and showed improvement in holding Atlanta to two runs. After allowing those two runs and four baserunners in the second, Herz settled down and retired six of seven batters over the next two frames. A seven-run fourth by the Nationals put Herz in line for the win, but Herz allowed two batters to reach base in the fifth and was pulled two outs shy of being eligible for his first big-league win. With both Josiah Gray and Trevor Williams remaining on the shelf, Herz looks to be in line for another start, likely to take place next weekend when the Nationals welcome the Marlins to town for a weekend set.     Kirby allowed a run on five hits over seven innings in a no-decision Sunday. He struck out four during the win over the Royals.

    Advice: The lone run to score on Kirby came via a sacrifice bunt in the fifth inning. After a shaky stretch in May, he's back to looking like his usual self recently; over his last three starts, Kirby has posted a 2.00 ERA and 21:1 K:BB. He was in line for the win after his seventh quality start of 2024 before the Royals tied up the game in the ninth inning.   • Coughs up four runs
    Blach (2-4) yielded four runs on eight hits and a walk over five innings Sunday, striking out three and taking a loss against the Cardinals.

    Advice: Blach never quite found a groove Sunday, allowing at least one run in the second, third and fourth frames. He's given up eight runs in 10 innings so far this month after ending May with two straight quality starts. The 33-year-old southpaw's ERA has climbed to 4.84 with a 22:8 K:BB through 44.2 innings this season. Blach's next start is projected to be at home against the PIrates.     Pallante (2-2) allowed three hits and a walk over five scoreless frames Sunday, striking out six and earning a win over the Rockies.

    Advice: Pallante never found himself in too much trouble as he cruised to a win Sunday. He fired 45 of 68 pitches for strikes, including 13 whiffs. That matched his total swinging strikes generated over his previous 14 MLB innings entering Sunday's start. Since rejoining the MLB roster, Pallante has gone 2-1 with a 3.86 ERA, though all his earned runs came in one appearance. He's currently slated to make his next start on the road against the Cubs.   • Struggles continue in return
    Winn (3-7) suffered the loss Sunday, allowing seven runs on six hits and two walks over 4.1 innings against the Rangers. He struck out seven.

    Advice: At least Winn was efficient in needing just 69 pitches while allowing eight baserunners and striking out seven. Otherwise, there wasn't much else good to glean from his start. He allowed five runs in the first two innings, then was pulled in the fifth after allowing a walk and a double, with both runners eventually coming in to score to leave him with a final line of seven runs allowed. The other positive is that Winn was able to return to the hill after landing on the IL with the dreaded forearm strain in mid-May. However, it was more of the same as he had allowed 17 runs in three starts spanning 8.1 innings prior to landing on the injured list.   • Luis Gil gives up three runs in no-decision Sunday
    Luis Gil pitched decently in a no-decision against the Dodgers on Sunday night, surrendering three runs on five hits over his 5 2/3 innings of work.

    Advice: Gil punched out five batters on the evening while allowing just one base on balls. After keeping the vaunted Dodgers’ offense off the board for the first four innings, they broke through in the fifth on a two-run double by Mookie Betts. They added another in the sixth on a go-ahead solo shot off the bat of Teoscar Hernández. The 26-year-old right-hander got 15 swings and misses on 96 pitches on the night — seven each on his fastball and changeup — while posting a CSW of 26 percent.
