    • Paul Goldschmidt strikes out four times in return
Paul Goldschmidt went 1-for-5 with four strikeouts on Saturday in the Cardinals’ loss to the Brewers.

Advice: Yikes. Goldschmidt was unable to really get anything going in his return to St. Louis’ lineup after receiving a couple days off to mentally reset and work on his swing. The 36-year-old veteran first baseman, who was the National League’s MVP Award winner just two seasons ago, is off to the worst start of his career, batting .190 (27-for-142) with two homers, 11 RBI and one steal through 37 contests. Perhaps the most alarming aspect of his early-season decline is that he’s striking out at a career-worst 31.7 percent clip so far. Simply put, it’s not what you want. Rotoworld Today, 3:34 am
    • Stays hot
Cruz went 2-for-4 with a solo home run, a double and two runs scored Saturday against the Cubs.

Advice: Cruz got off to a slow start to the season, though he's managed multiple hits in four of his last five starts. He's hit .500 in that span, also hitting two home runs while collecting six RBI and five runs scored. Importantly, Cruz has greatly cut down on his strikeout rate, as he's punched out multiple times in a game only three times in his last 17 starts and struck out at just a 23.8 percent clip in that span. • Shohei Ohtani leaves game with tightness in back
Shohei Ohtani was removed from Saturday night’s battle against the Padres due to tightness in his back.

Advice: As of now, Dodgers’ skipper Dave Roberts is calling his level of concern “minimal”, though he acknowledged that Ohtani would likely get a day off on Sunday to err on the side of caution. It doesn’t sound like the superstar slugger should be looking at any sort of extended absence, but it’s a situation worth monitoring. Rotoworld Yesterday, 8:46 pm

    • Nursing back tightness
Ohtani was removed from Saturday's game versus the Padres due to back tightness, Jack Harris of the Los Angeles Times reports.

Advice: Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said his level of concern regarding the injury is "minimal," but the skipper is leaning toward holding Ohtani out of Sunday's lineup as a precaution. Roberts will wait to see how Ohtani feels Sunday morning before making a final determination. Before exiting Saturday's contest, Ohtani went 0-for-3 with a walk and a run scored. • Racks up three hits
Nootbaar went 3-for-5 with two RBI in Saturday's 5-3 loss to the Brewers.

Advice: Nootbaar was one of five Cardinals with multiple hits in the contest, but it still wasn't enough to break the team out of its skid. The outfielder has gone 8-for-35 (.229) in May, adding four RBI and three extra-base hits in that span. He's still struggling overall with a .198/.294/.354 slash line through 110 plate appearances. Nootbaar has added three home runs, two stolen bases, 11 RBI and eight runs scored, and he appears to have a near-everyday role in the outfield since most of the rest of the Cardinals aren't hitting much better than he is. • Collects sixth save
Jansen struck out two in a perfect inning Saturday to notch his sixth save of the season in a 4-2 win over the Nationals.

Advice: After the Red Sox broke a scoreless tie with two runs in the bottom of the eighth inning, Jansen made quick work of the Nats in the top of the ninth with a groundout and a couple punchouts. The outing comes one day after Jansen was touched up for two runs in a non-save situation Friday. Jansen battled control issues early on in the season but has seemed to figure those out, putting up a 10:1 K:BB across his last six frames. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 4:38 pm

    • Kenley Jansen whiffs two while picking up save
Kenley Jansen struck out two while picking up a save against the Nationals on Saturday.

Advice: Jansen didn’t allow a hit and threw 12-of-16 pitches for strikes. The 36-year-old remains effective in the closing role, and he’s up to six saves while lowering his ERA to 1.86 on the 2024 campaign. Tough to complain about those results. Rotoworld Yesterday, 3:28 pm

    • Still out Saturday
Lee (foot) is not in Saturday's lineup against the Reds.

Advice: Lee will miss a third straight game with a sore foot. Tyler Fitzgerald is starting in center field against lefty Nick Lodolo on Saturday. Lee did on-field work Saturday and was moving better, per Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 12:13 pm

    • Josh Lowe sitting against lefty on Saturday
Josh Lowe is not in the lineup for Saturday’s showdown against the Yankees.

Advice: Lowe has gone 4-for-13 through four contests since making his season debut earlier this week. He’ll take a seat on Saturday afternoon with crafty left-hander Nestor Cortes on the mound for New York. The 26-year-old fantasy stalwart figures to continue sitting against southpaws, but will do enough damage against right-handed pitching to make up for it. Rotoworld Yesterday, 12:04 pm
