• Starting rehab assignment Saturday
Ahmed (wrist) will begin his rehab assignment with Triple-A Sacramento on Saturday, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.

Advice: Ahmed landed on the injured list May 10 after spraining his left wrist against Atlanta on May 9. Prior to the injury, he was slashing .236/.274/.291 with 11 RBI. It's unclear how many rehab outings Ahmed will have, but a return to the big club would be timely after Marco Luciano was placed on the 10-day IL on Friday due to a right hamstring strain. • Recalled by San Francisco
The Giants recalled Schmitt from Triple-A Sacramento on Friday.

Advice: The move corresponds with Marco Luciano being placed on the injured list due to a right hamstring strain. Since being optioned to Triple-A Sacramento on May 17, Schmitt has gone 14-for-44 with 12 runs, four home runs and 12 RBI. With both Luciano and Nick Ahmed (wrist) on the IL, Schmitt will likely see starts at shortstop against southpaws, while the lefty-hitting Brett Wisely starts against right-handers. • Giants recall Casey Schmitt from Triple-A
Giants recalled INF Casey Schmitt from Triple-A Sacramento.

Advice: The 25-year-old infielder will get another opportunity with the big league club with Marco Luciano (hamstring) heading to the injured list on Friday. Schmitt has struggled in his limited action this season, hitting just .136 (3-for-22) with one RBI and a 5/0 K/BB ratio. Look for Brett Wisely to see the bulk of the action at shortstop with Luciano shelved. Rotoworld 50 minutes ago

  • Giants place Marco Luciano (hamstring) on IL
Giants placed INF Marco Luciano on the 10-day injured list, retroactive to May 30, with a right hamstring strain.

Advice: The 22-year-old infielder suffered the injury during Wednesday’s game. It’s unclear how long he’ll be shelved for. Casey Schmitt was recalled from Triple-A Sacramento to take his place on the active roster. Expect Schmitt and Brett Wisely to both see action at shortstop while Luciano is sidelined. • Lands on injured list
The Giants placed Luciano on the 10-day injured list Friday with a right hamstring strain, Shayna Rubin of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.

Advice: Luciano made an early exit from Wednesday's game against the Phillies because of hamstring problems, and he will now officially be sidelined until at least June 10. Casey Schmitt was recalled from Triple-A Sacramento in a corresponding move and will presumably work in the short side of a platoon with Brett Wisely while Luciano is out. Rotowire.com 53 minutes ago

  • Day off Friday
Paris isn't in the Angels' lineup Friday against the Mariners, Rhett Bollinger of MLB.com reports.

Advice: Paris went 0-for-3 during Thursday's loss to the Yankees, making him 0-for-8 across his last four games. Luis Rengifo will take Paris' place at the keystone Friday, allowing Luis Guillorme to start at third base while batting ninth. Rotowire.com Today, 2:59 pm

  • Santiago Espinal delivers pinch-hit homer in win
Santiago Espinal hit a two-run homer as a pinch-hitter to help propel the Reds past the Cubs 5-4 on Friday.

Advice: Espinal hit for Will Benson against lefty Drew Smyly in the seventh and drove the first pitch he saw 385 feet to left-center. It would have been a homer in nine out of the 30 ballparks, says Statcast, Espinal is now batting .202/.261/.303 in 137 plate appearances for the Reds. Rotoworld Today, 2:40 pm

  • Tommy Edman (wrist) takes BP left-handed Friday
Tommy Edman (wrist) was able to take batting practice from the left side of the plate for the first time on Friday.

Advice: Edman is already eligible to be activated from the 60-day injured list, but he’s still not close to being ready. The fact that he’s now able to face live pitching from both sides of the plate though is an encouraging sign and perhaps a minor league rehab assignment could be in the cards soon. He’s going to need plenty of at-bats there before he’s ready to join the Cardinals though and there’s no guarantee that he’ll even be ready before the end of June. Rotoworld Today, 1:44 pm

  • Taking BP from left side
Edman (wrist) has been cleared to take batting practice from the left side of the plate, John Denton of MLB.com reports.

Advice: It's the first time the switch-hitter has taken BP from the left side since he experienced complications in his recovery from right wrist surgery. While the step is an important one, Edman does not appear close to beginning a rehab assignment just yet. Rotowire.com Today, 1:34 pm
