• Impressive pop in Tuesday's loss
McCann went 2-for-4 with a double, a solo home run, a walk and two additional runs in a loss to the Rangers on Tuesday.

Advice: The reserve backstop continues to parlay his occasional opportunities into standout offensive production, with Tuesday's impressive day pushing his average and OPS to .393 and 1.235, respectively, across 33 plate appearances. While the small-sample caveat certainly applies, it's difficult to dismiss how quickly McCann seems to have acclimated to big-league arms after displaying impressive bat skills at both the Double-A and Triple-A levels the last two seasons. Shea Langeliers remains the top backstop at the moment and certainly has the edge in terms of knowledge of the pitching staff, but given the expansive gulf in offensive performance between the two thus far, it's conceivable McCann could progressively carve out more consistent opportunities. • Mark Canha still out with illness Wednesday
Mark Canha is out of Wednesday’s lineup with an upper respiratory infection.

Advice: This appears to be why the 35-year-old was out of the lineup Tuesday as well. “He’s not feeling well,” manager AJ Hinch said. “It hasn’t been a great road trip health-wise (for the team), so we’re kind of quarantining him at this point to get him away from the rest of us until further notice.” If this is the case, Canha could be out a couple more games. The Tigers finish up their road trip at Cleveland and head back home for a weekend series against with the Astros. Rotoworld 12 minutes ago

  • Uncorks three-run shot Tuesday
Brown went 1-for-4 with a three-run home run in a loss to the Rangers on Tuesday.

Advice: Brown's eighth-inning shot with JJ Bleday and Brent Rooker aboard got the Athletics out of a double-digit deficit, but it would also be the final runs of the day for Oakland. The 31-year-old snapped a six-game home-run drought with the round-tripper, as well as the 0-for-11 slump he'd been mired in during that stretch. Brown is still limping along with a .179/.243/.305 slash line, and a strikeout rate that's ballooned to 31.1 percent this season is playing a prominent role in the struggles. • Catches bullpen session
Delay (knee) caught a bullpen session Wednesday, Andrew Destin of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.

Advice: It would appear to be the first time he's done so since undergoing surgery in mid-April to repair the meniscus in his right knee. Delay is expected to miss most, if not all, of the rest of the first half as he recovers. Rotowire.com 24 minutes ago

  • Ankle issues not long-term
Pirates director of sports medicine Todd Tomczyk said Wednesday that Cruz's recurring left ankle issues are not believing to be a long-term concern, Andrew Destin of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.

Advice: Cruz played just nine games before a fractured left ankle ended his 2023 season. The ankle has since bothered him off-and-on during the 2024 season, including most recently during Monday's game versus the Angels. He's been able to mostly play through it, but you have to wonder whether it could be contributing to Cruz's disappointing .244/.293/.382 batting line. However, at least at this juncture, it does not appear the team is worried about Cruz's ankle problems becoming chronic. Rotowire.com 25 minutes ago

  • Moving into regular role
Schneider will start at second base and bat seventh in Wednesday's game against the Phillies.

Advice: Kevin Kiermaier's return from the injured list Saturday was expected to cost Schneider some playing time, but the latter player will end up making his third straight start Wednesday. The previous two starts came in left field, but Schneider will man the keystone in the series finale in Philadelphia while the lefty-hitting Cavan Biggio heads to the bench against right-hander Aaron Nola. Schneider holds a 201-point edge in OPS over Biggio for the season (.822 to .621), so the Blue Jays could be motivated to give Schneider an extended look at second base while he's swinging the hotter bat of the two. • Losing grip on regular role
Biggio is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Phillies.

Advice: Biggio will hit the bench for the fifth time in six games, with three of those absences coming while the Blue Jays have faced left-handed starting pitchers and two coming versus righties. The 29-year-old has maintained a strong-side platoon role at second base for much of the season, but with his OPS sitting at .621 through 29 games, Biggio looks like he could lose work to Davis Schneider moving forward. • Launches first homer of 2024
Kelenic went 2-for-2 with a two-run home run in Tuesday's 4-2 win over the Red Sox.

Advice: His third-inning shot off Kutter Crawford got Atlanta on the board, and gave Kelenic his first long ball of the season. Despite the lack of power, the 24-year-old has generally been hitting well in his strong-side platoon role, slashing .280/.333/.373 in 81 plate appearances. Only one of those PAs has come against a southpaw, but with Adam Duvall scuffling so far (.220/.310/.380 in 58 PAs), Kelenic might get more opportunities against same-handed pitching if he heats up. • Moved down to sixth spot
Bichette will start at shortstop and bat sixth in Wednesday's contest in Philadelphia.

Advice: Bichette had already been dropped down in the Blue Jays' batting order in recent days, and the No. 6 spot is the lowest he has hit since August 2022. The 26-year-old is just 3-for-40 over his last 11 games to drag his season batting line down to an ugly .189/.246/.268. Rotowire.com 42 minutes ago
