      Pete Alonso went 1-for-5 with an RBI on Friday against the Diamondbacks in his return to the Mets’ lineup.

      Advice: Alonso was able to come off the bench and deliver a pinch-hit double during Thursday’s series opener, less than 24 hours after being diagnosed with a bone bruise in his right hand.     • Pablo López strong for seven in beating Astros
      Pablo López pitched seven innings of one-run ball Friday as the Twins downed the Astros 6-1.

      Advice: López generated 17 missed swings tonight, 12 of them with his fastball. His peripherals would suggest that he’s had pretty awful luck this season, but he was in close to peak form tonight. The one run he allowed came on an Alex Bregman 348-foot homer that Statcast said was only a homer in four ballparks. Rotoworld Yesterday, 11:40 pm
       
    • Yields three runs in no-decision
      Cease did not factor into the decision in Friday's 11-8 win over the Royals, allowing three runs on five hits and one walk over 5.1 innings. He struck out five.

      Advice: Despite generating 16 whiffs out of his 98 total pitches, Cease managed to strike out only five, tying a season-low also reached on May 20 against Atlanta and April 27 against Philadelphia. The Padres ace was cruising through five innings, allowing just two baserunners; however, he unraveled in a 25-pitch sixth inning, allowing four baserunners and departing with just one out.     • Dylan Cease surrenders three runs to Royals
      Dylan Cease allowed three runs over 5 1/3 innings in a no-decision against the Royals on Friday.

      Advice: Cease was pretty great to begin the year, posting a 2.19 ERA in his first eight starts, but this makes four straight outings that have missed the quality-start threshold.       Lopez (5-5) earned the win in Friday's 6-1 victory over Houston, allowing one run on six hits and one walk over seven innings. He struck out nine.

      Advice: Lopez appeared to be in the form that led him to a seventh place finish in the 2023 AL Cy Young race. The Minnesota right-hander generated an impressive 17 whiffs en route to his six punchouts while lowering his season ERA to 4.84 in 67 innings. The lone blemish on his evening was the 348-foot solo shot Alex Bregman hit into Houston's Crawford Boxes in the fourth inning.       Romano wasn't available for Friday's game against the Pirates due to elbow soreness, Scott Mitchell of TSN.ca reports.

      Advice: Manager John Schneider said Romano's elbow has not recovered properly following his last outing Wednesday against the White Sox. The team is officially labeling his injury as "soreness" for now, but the Jays should have a better idea of what Romano is dealing with ahead of Saturday's contest.       Blue Jays manager John Schneider told reporters after Friday’s game that Jordan Romano was unavailable due to elbow soreness.

      Orioles GM Mike Elias announced Friday that Wells will undergo surgery to repair his right elbow's UCL and will miss the remainder of the season, Jake Rill of MLB.com reports.

      Advice: Wells had begun playing catch while on the road to recovery for his elbow, but his discomfort continued, which will now lead to a season-ending surgery. Elias also stated that it's unknown whether Wells will be getting Tommy John surgery, though more information should be disclosed once the reliever goes in for the procedure.     • Tyler Wells to undergo season-ending surgery
      Orioles’ general manager Mike Elias announced Friday that Tyler Wells will undergo season-ending surgery on his right elbow.

      Advice: In a brutal blow to the Orioles’ pitching depth, Elias announced that both Wells and John Means would undergo operations to repair their UCL’s. It’s not clear if that will be Tommy John surgery or the internal brace procedure, but both hurlers are going to miss the remainder of the 2024 season and the start of the 2025 campaign as well while recovering.
