    • Corbin Carroll records three hits in Arizona’s win
      Corbin Carroll went 3-for-5 with a double, a steal and two runs scored as the Diamondbacks edged the Padres 4-3 on Thursday.

      Advice: It’s just Carroll’s second three-hit game of the year. All three of Carroll’s hits were legit, leaving his bat on a line at 108, 106 and 99 mph. It’s definitely his most encouraging game in weeks and maybe of the entire season. At .201, he finished the game over the Mendoza Line for the first time since May 12.       Carroll went 3-for-5 with a double, a stolen base and two runs scored in Thursday's 4-3 win over the Padres.

      Advice: Carroll's three-hit effort got his batting average over .200 for the first time since May 12. He's opened June by going 5-for-21 (.238) over six contests, and his steal Thursday was his first since May 25. The outfielder is slashing .201/.284/.291 with two home runs, 10 thefts, 20 RBI, 30 runs scored, seven doubles and four triples over 61 games in a so-far disappointing sophomore campaign.       Steer went 1-for-5 with a home run and two RBI in Wednesday's 12-7 win over the Rockies.

      Advice: Steer's two-run shot in the top of the ninth plated the tying and go-ahead runs for the Reds, who swept the Rockies in Colorado for the first time since 2012.       Carroll batted leadoff and went 1-for-5 with a run scored in Wednesday's 9-3 loss to the Giants.

      Advice: Carroll was moved down to the eighth in the order the last two games, but that is an adjustment against left-handers only. Last year's NL Rookie of the Year continues to struggle overall, slashing .192/.278/.279 through 259 plate appearances. There are indicators to explain his issues -- fewer barrels and an increase in pop-up rate jump out -- but he's retained good plate discipline and luck appears to be a factor.       Spencer Steer walloped a go-ahead two-run homer in the ninth inning on Wednesday in the Reds’ comeback win over the Rockies.

      Carroll is not in the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Giants.

      Advice: One day after being moved down to the No. 8 spot in the Diamondbacks' batting order, Carroll is now out of the lineup altogether. Both games have come versus left-handers.       Advice: After a rough May in which he posted a .176 average and .629 OPS, Steer has gotten off to a strong start to June. He's delivered multiple hits in all three games on the month, going 8-for-14.       Spencer Steer went 3-for-5 with a run scored and two RBI against the Rockies on Monday.

      Advice: Steer is up to 37 RBI in 58 games this season. He’s only hitting .243, but his .282 BABIP is a little lower than his career .302 BABIP. He should improve in that area and with 11 steals already he’s on pace to blow by his total of 15 steals from last year. Rotoworld Monday, 8:57 pm
