• On bench versus lefty
Brooks is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Diamondbacks.

Advice: The lefty-hitting Brooks is on the bench for the second game in a row while the Giants have faced southpaws Blake Walston and Jordan Montgomery in those contests. Wilmer Flores will get another start at first base Wednesday, but Brooks still looks to be in the strong side of a platoon at the position while LaMonte Wade (hamstring) is on the shelf. • Sitting against righty Wednesday
Bauers is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Phillies.

Advice: Bauers will take a seat for the second day in a row, this time against a right-handed pitcher (Aaron Nola) after his absence from the lineup for Tuesday's 2-1 loss came while southpaw Cristopher Sanchez started for Philadelphia. Though he's been playing more often than not against right-handed pitching of late, Bauers is slashing just .176/.276/.314 over his last 15 games and could begin to lose out on starts more frequently if he fails to right the ship. • Getting breather Wednesday
Walker is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Giants.

Advice: Walker is resting for just the second time of the season, with his first day off coming all the way back on April 21. Pavin Smith will start at first base for the Diamondbacks on Wednesday. Rotowire.com Today, 10:13 am
  • Pops fifth homer
Renfroe went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Tuesday's 8-5 loss to the Guardians.

Advice: Renfroe has quietly started to turn things around, going 13-for-49 (.265) with two homers, five doubles and eight RBI over his last 15 contests. That's a vast improvement over the first quarter-plus of the season, though he's still at an ugly .179/.256/.327 slash line through 172 plate appearances. Renfroe has added five homers, 21 RBI, 21 runs scored, one stolen base and eight doubles over 51 contests. He sat out both games over the weekend with Nelson Velazquez and Adam Frazier each getting a turn in right field, but Renfroe remains the Royals' primary right fielder. • Launches homer Tuesday
Naylor went 1-for-3 with a two-run home run, a walk and a second run scored in Tuesday's 8-5 win over the Royals.

Advice: Naylor was part of the Guardians' comeback push -- his fourth-inning homer cut the deficit to 5-3. After being one of the team's hottest hitters in April, the first baseman has hit .178 with a .719 OPS since the start of May. Naylor's power is still coming through with 16 homers, a .500 slugging percentage and a .271 ISO. He hasn't had a pronounced issue with strikeouts either, fanning at just a 16.2 percent rate while walking at a career-best 10.3 percent clip. Naylor's .308 batting average last year was likely unsustainable, but he's a better overall hitter than he's been over the last month. Rotowire.com Today, 9:56 am

  • Sitting after three straight starts
Goodman is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Reds.

Advice: With Kris Bryant day-to-day with a back injury, playing time has opened up of late for Goodman, but the latter hasn't been able to take advantage of the opportunity. While starting in each of the last three games, Goodman went 0-for-9 with three strikeouts and will now move to the bench for Wednesday's series finale even though Bryant remains out of the lineup. • Remains on bench Wednesday
Bryant (back) is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Reds.

Advice: Bryant will hit the bench for a third game in a row while he continues to manage a sore back. Jacob Stallings will pick up a start behind the dish in the series finale versus Cincinnati while top backstop Elias Diaz fills Bryant's usual spot at designated hitter. Rotowire.com Today, 9:11 am

  • Heads to bench in O'Neill's return
Cooper is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against Atlanta, Mac Cerullo of the Boston Herald reports.

Advice: Cooper served as Boston's designated hitter in both of the past two games and went 0-for-8 with four strikeouts. He'll cede DH duties to Rob Refsnyder on Wednesday, and with Tyler O'Neill (knee) returning from the 10-day injured list one day after Wilyer Abreu (ankle) was deactivated, Boston will likely have room in the lineup against right-handed pitching for only one of Refsnyder and Cooper moving forward. Refsnyder has performed far better than Cooper so far this season, so it wouldn't be surprising if Boston opted to make the former a greater priority in the lineup. Rotowire.com Today, 8:41 am

  • Not in Wednesday's lineup
Carpenter is out of the lineup for Wednesday's contest in Houston.

Advice: Carpenter has been seeing regular playing time at designated hitter against right-handers since Lars Nootbaar (oblique) went on the injured list, with Alec Burleson covering Nootbaar's usual spot in right field. However, Carpenter will begin Wednesday's game on the bench, as Ivan Herrera will be in the DH slot versus Astros righty Ronel Blanco. Rotowire.com Today, 8:41 am
