• Just misses quality start Friday
Irvin (4-1) picked up the win Friday, allowing two runs on five hits and a walk over 5.2 innings in a 4-2 victory over the Diamondbacks. He struck out six.

Advice: The southpaw was sharp and had given up only a solo shot to Ketel Marte heading into the sixth inning, but Irvin got the hook after 95 pitches (62 strikes) with runners on first and second and two outs. Albert Suarez then promptly gave up a single to let one of the inherited runners score, but the O's bullpen took care of business the rest of the way. Irvin generated 30 called or swinging strikes as he won his fourth straight start, and after a bumpy beginning to the season he's posted a 1.19 ERA, 0.79 WHIP and 21:3 K:BB in 30.1 innings over his last five outings. He'll look to keep rolling in his next trip to the mound, which is scheduled to come at home next week against the Blue Jays. Rotowire.com 5 minutes ago

  • Swats eighth homer
Marte went 1-for-5 with a solo home run in Friday's 4-2 loss to the Orioles.

Advice: He took Cole Irvin deep in the third inning, giving Marte his eighth homer of the season and third in the last five games. The 30-year-old second baseman also extended his hitting streak to 11 games with the solo shot, but he's batting just .261 (12-for-46) during that stretch as he's managed only one multi-hit performance. • Back from suspension Saturday
Peralta was reinstated from his five-game suspension and will start Saturday's game against the Cardinals in Milwaukee.

Advice: Peralta was handed the five-game ban for throwing at the Rays' Jose Siri in an April 30 game, but he initially appealed the suspension and made his next turn through the rotation this past Sunday against the Cubs. He dropped his appeal a day later and began serving the ban, which concluded Friday. Peralta was presumably able to stay on his usual between-starts throwing regimen while he was suspended, so he shouldn't face any restrictions with his pitch count as he returns to the rubber Saturday. • Stuck with loss in quality start
Pfaadt (1-3) took the loss Friday as the Diamondbacks fell 4-2 to the Orioles, giving up three runs on five hits and two walks over six innings. He failed to strikeout a batter.

Advice: The 25-year-old right-hander produced his third straight quality start and fourth of the season on 88 pitches (56 strikes), but Pfaadt generated only six swinging strikes as he came up empty in the strikeout department for the first time in 26 big-league starts -- in fact, he'd never fanned fewer than three batters in an outing before Friday. Pfaadt will take a 4.60 ERA, 1.19 WHIP and 42:8 K:BB through 47 innings into his next start, which lines up to come at home next week against the Reds. Rotowire.com 14 minutes ago
  • Resumes throwing
Rodriguez (shoulder) began a throwing program out to 45 feet Friday, the Associated Press reports.

Advice: A recent MRI on the shoulder showed positive results, and Rodriguez resumed throwing again. The left-hander was on a throwing program in early April but had it paused when he felt discomfort during a bullpen session April 9. Shortly thereafter he was moved to the 60-day injured list. • Seeking opinions on MRI
Arizona manager Torey Lovullo said Thomas (hamstring) will seek a second and third opinion on his MRI results, Steve Gilbert of MLB.com reports.

Advice: Thomas underwent an MRI earlier this week after feeling discomfort during a rehab game Sunday. The next steps for the outfielder should be determined after additional doctors weigh in. Rotowire.com 48 minutes ago

  • Shane Baz walks five on Friday in rehab start
Shane Baz (elbow) walked five and was charged with three runs over 1 2/3 innings on Friday in a minor league rehab start for Triple-A Durham.

Advice: Baz struggled to find the strike zone in this one, handing out a staggering five free passes and was lifted after 59 pitches (29 strikes) in the second inning. The 24-year-old righty is going to wind up requiring a couple additional rehab outings before the Rays consider him ready to rejoin the big-league rotation. He’s one of the most talented young pitchers in baseball, but it’s going to take him some time to round back into form after missing nearly two years recovering from Tommy John surgery. • Brandon Lowe’s exit ‘precautionary’ Friday at AAA
Brandon Lowe (oblique) made a precautionary exit from Friday’s minor league rehab game for Triple-A Durham.

Advice: Lowe appears to be fine, but the Rays didn’t want to take any chances with wet field conditions, which led to the veteran second baseman’s removal after just one at-bat during Friday’s contest. He’s gone 2-for-5 with a grand slam in a pair of rehab contests so far and figures to be ready to return to Tampa Bay’s lineup at some point next week. He’s been on the shelf since early April due to an oblique strain. Rotoworld Today, 5:08 am

  • Rangers recall Grant Anderson on Friday
Rangers recalled RHP Grant Anderson from Triple-A Round Rock.

Advice: Anderson was summoned to re-join the Rangers’ relief mix ahead of Friday’s contest against the Rockies at Coors Field as the corresponding move for Josh Sborz landing on the injured list. The 26-year-old took the loss on Friday night in Colorado, allowing two runs in his lone inning of work in his return to the majors. Rotoworld Today, 4:54 am
