• On base four times Sunday
Martinez went 2-for-3 with two walks, a double, a run scored and an RBI in Sunday's win over the Padres.

Advice: The veteran DH was a key part of the Mets' 11-run eruption Sunday, and Martinez enjoyed a huge weekend overall against San Diego -- he went 6-for-9 at the plate with two doubles, two homers, six RBI and nine runs, and he reached base in 10 straight plate appearances during the three-game set. The 36-year-old is slashing .293/.363/.518 on the season with eight home runs and 27 RBI in 44 contests. Rotowire.com 5 minutes ago
  • Pops third homer
Torrens went 2-for-4 with a solo home run and a second run scored in Sunday's win over the Padres.

Advice: Facing the team he made his big-league debut with back in 2017, Torrens took Jeremiah Estrada deep in the eighth inning. The 28-year-old catcher has started his Mets tenure off with a bang, batting .318 (7-for-22) in his first eight games for the club with three homers, but he remains firmly in the backup role behind Francisco Alvarez. • Three hits against Padres
Nimmo went 3-for-5 with two runs scored and an RBI in Sunday's win over San Diego.

Advice: Batting second once again, Nimmo reeled off his third straight multi-hit performance. The 31-year-old has heated up in June, slashing .300/.352/.400 through 54 plate appearances, but his homer drought sits at 23 games. Nimmo's gone yard just seven times so far in 2024, a disappointing showing after he slugged a career-high 24 homers last season. Rotowire.com 10 minutes ago
  • Ready for rehab assignment
Massey (back) will begin a rehab assignment Tuesday at Triple-A Omaha.

Advice: On the shelf with a low back ligament sprain, Massey received an injection May 31 and appears to have responded favorably. He was cleared to resume baseball activities early last week and has checked out fine after steadily increasing the intensity of his hitting and running over the last several days. The Royals haven't determined how long Massey's rehab assignment will last, but he may only need two or three games with Omaha to get his timing back at the plate before potentially making his return from the 10-day injured list as soon as this weekend. • Battling stiff back
Luzardo pitched through a stiff back Sunday, Bally Sports Florida reports.

Advice: The southpaw got the hook after gutting out five innings and 77 pitches, but Luzardo clearly didn't have his best stuff and his velocity was down about two miles per hour. There's been no indication yet from the Marlins that he will miss his next turn in the rotation, which lines up to come Saturday against the Mariners, but that determination may not be made until later in the week. • Making rehab start in ACL
Wacha (foot) will make a rehab start Monday in the rookie-level Arizona Complex League.

Advice: According to Anne Rogers of MLB.com, Royals manager Matt Quatraro said Sunday that Wacha may only need the one outing in the minors before returning from the 15-day injured list and making his next start with Kansas City this coming weekend in Arlington versus the Rangers. Wacha threw a three-inning simulated game Thursday, so he could be stretched out for close to a typical starter's workload if he's able to tack on another inning during Monday's outing. The right-hander has been on the injured list since June 2 with a non-displaced left foot fracture. Rotowire.com 23 minutes ago
  • Plays defense in second rehab game
Polanco (hamstring) started at second base in High-A Everett's win over Eugene on Sunday and went 0-for-1 with two walks before being replaced defensively in the bottom of the fourth inning.

Advice: Polanco was able to take another step with his time on the field, even if it was relatively brief. The veteran has reached safely in each of his first two rehab games, and he's now poised to shift his assignment to Triple-A Tacoma when the Rainiers resume play Tuesday. • Throwing from 105 feet
Stripling (elbow), who recently started a throwing program, is already up to a distance of 105 feet in his catch sessions, the Associated Press reports.

Advice: The veteran right-hander appears to be making some solid progress, but manager Mark Kotsay still doesn't have a timetable for Stripling to throw a bullpen session or get back on a mound. Therefore, Stripling's IL stint could conceivably last through the All-Star break, although there still appears to be a chance he could return prior to that point even when factoring in a rehab assignment. • Collects sixth hold
Green gave up a hit and struck out one in a scoreless seventh inning Sunday to record his sixth save of the season in a win over the Guardians.

Advice: The right-hander did his job in a high-leverage spot with the Blue Jays ahead 7-4, but the team's late-inning crew got thinner when Yimi Garcia left the game in the ninth with elbow soreness. Nate Pearson wound up getting the save Sunday, but with Jordan Romano (elbow) just resuming his throwing program this weekend and lacking a firm return date, Green could be Toronto's top closing option in the short term.
