• Back in big leagues
The Pirates recalled Jefferies from Triple-A Indianapolis on Monday, Kevin Gorman of TribLive.com reports.

Advice: Jefferies has been bludgeoned for 13 runs (nine earned) over 4.2 innings covering one start and one relief appearance with the Pirates this season. He's headed to the bullpen, where he will provide length. Rotowire.com 5 minutes ago
  • Sent down to minors
The Pirates optioned Bruihl to Triple-A Indianapolis on Monday, Justin Guerriero of TribLive.com reports.

Advice: Bruihl was added to the roster earlier this month and allowed four runs with a 4:1 K:BB over 5.1 frames. He's being replaced on the roster by Daulton Jefferies. Rotowire.com 8 minutes ago

  • Set for season debut Wednesday
Yankees manager Aaron Boone said in an interview with Jomboy Media's Talkin' Yanks podcast Monday that Cole (elbow) will be activated from the 60-day injured list to make his season debut Wednesday against the Orioles.

Advice: Cole has been lights out on his rehab assignment, yielding one earned run with a 19:0 K:BB over 12.1 innings covering three starts. In his final rehab outing with Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, Cole struck out 10 while allowing just one unearned run across 4.1 frames. The right-hander has been out all season after being diagnosed in mid-March with nerve irritation and edema in his right elbow. Cole's workload will likely be curtailed initially after he had a high of 68 pitches on his rehab assignment. Rotowire.com 16 minutes ago

  • Resumes throwing
The Marlins announced Tuesday that Sanchez (shoulder) is asymptomatic while throwing and rehabbing at the team's extended spring training facility in Jupiter, Fla., MLB.com reports.

Advice: Sanchez was placed on the 15-day injured list June 2, with the Marlins deactivating him two days after he saw a significant dip in velocity in his May 31 start versus the Rangers. While it's encouraging that Sanchez didn't face an extended shutdown from throwing, the Marlins will likely proceed slowly with the right-hander, who has previously underwent two surgeries on his shoulder. The Marlins may not have a spot in the rotation available for Sanchez if Edward Cabrera (shoulder) and Ryan Weathers (finger) beat him back from the IL. Rotowire.com 29 minutes ago

  • Completes live bullpen session
Cabrera (shoulder) threw two innings and 35 pitches in a live bullpen session Friday, MLB.com reports.

Advice: The bullpen session was Cabrera's second of the week; he previously threw a 30-pitch up-and-down session Tuesday. Cabrera could take the next step forward this week by facing hitters in live batting practice before he heads out on a minor-league rehab assignment that will likely consist of one or two starts. He's been on the injured list since May 8 with a right shoulder impingement and isn't expected to rejoin the Miami rotation until late June or early July. Rotowire.com 33 minutes ago

  • Bridges gap to closer for hold
Hudson earned a hold against Kansas City on Sunday, striking out two batters in a perfect eighth inning.

Advice: Tyler Glasnow gave Los Angeles seven shutout frames, and manager Dave Roberts then turned to Hudson to protect a three-run lead. The veteran reliever did so without any trouble, retiring all three batters he faced on 10 pitches. Hudson has been excellent for the Dodgers this season, posting a 1.93 ERA, 0.75 WHIP and 31:3 K:BB over 28 innings while recording 10 holds, three saves and three wins. He's gone 13 straight outings without giving up a run, posting a 15:2 K:BB during that stretch. Rotowire.com 37 minutes ago
  • Completes rehab outing
Hoeing (hamstring) struck out two and allowed one hit and no walks over two scoreless innings in a rehab appearance Friday with Single-A Jupiter.

Advice: According to MLB.com, the right-hander is expected to make another rehab appearance for Jupiter on Tuesday or Wednesday. After that, the Marlins could either activate him from the 15-day injured list or have him continue his minor-league assignment with a higher-level affiliate. Hoeing has been on the shelf since May 3 with a left hamstring strain and then felt renewed tightness when he first began a rehab assignment at Triple-A Jacksonville on May 21. • Gives up three runs in rehab start
Ray (elbow) surrendered three earned runs on four hits while striking out three in 1.2 innings during his third rehab start in the rookie-level Arizona Complex League on Thursday.

Advice: Ray struck out eight while allowing just one baserunner in three innings between his first two rehab outings, but he hit his first bump in the road Thursday. Three of the four hits he allowed went for extra bases, including a two-run home run in the first inning. On a positive note, Ray peppered the strike zone like he had his previous two outings, spotting 24 of his 31 pitches for strikes. According to MLB.com, Ray is scheduled to make another appearance in the ACL on Tuesday, and if all goes well, he could be cleared to advance to a higher-level affiliate his next time out. The veteran southpaw is May 3, 2023 Tommy John surgery and is expected to exhaust his 30-day rehab window before potentially returning from the 60-day injured list and joining the San Francisco rotation around the All-Star break. • Blasted as bulk reliever
Suarez (1-2) took the loss against San Francisco on Sunday, allowing five runs on five hits and one walk over one-plus inning.

Advice: Ben Joyce worked two frames as the opener in the contest, and Suarez was deployed next, presumably to attempt to cover multiple innings. That plan seemed to be on track when the left-hander tossed a scoreless third frame (despite giving up two hits), but Suarez then allowed five straight batters to reach -- on three doubles, a walk and a hit-by-pitch -- in the bottom of the fourth and was consequently given the hook. Suarez has given up nine runs over 3.2 innings across his past two appearances, pushing his season ERA up to an ugly 8.15. Rotowire.com Today, 11:32 am
