• Zac Gallen (hamstring) to throw sim game next week
Zac Gallen (hamstring) is scheduled to throw another simulated game early next week.

Advice: The hope here is that Gallen will be ready to be activated, without requiring a minor league rehab assignment, after next week’s simulated game. The 28-year-old righty has been on the shelf since late May after suffering a Grade 1 right hamstring strain. Rotoworld Thursday, 5:46 pm

  • Set for another rehab start
Gray (elbow) will make another rehab start for Triple-A Rochester next week, Bobby Blanco of MASNSports.com reports.

Advice: Gray was able to build up to 79 pitches over five innings during his latest rehab outing Wednesday, and the goal will be for him to get up to six innings or roughly 90 pitches. It's likely he makes his next minor-league start Tuesday, which could put him in line to return to Washington's rotation June 30 against the Rays. Rotowire.com Thursday, 1:05 pm

  • Goes five innings in rehab start
Gray (elbow) struck out five over five innings while allowing two earned runs on three hits and three walks in his rehab start Wednesday with Double-A Harrisburg.

Advice: After building up to 79 pitches in what was the third start of his rehab assignment, Gray looks to be on the cusp of making his return from the 15-day injured list. According to Bobby Blanco of MASNSports.com, Gray reported back to Washington on Thursday and said he felt good following his latest rehab start, but the Nationals haven't yet decided whether he'll remain on assignment or rejoin the big-league rotation. If Washington chooses to activate Gray along with keeping a five-man rotation intact, the struggling Patrick Corbin could be sent to the bullpen to make room for the right-hander. Gray could be an option to start for the Nationals as soon as Monday in San Diego. Rotowire.com Thursday, 10:09 am

  • Another sim game coming next week
Gallen (hamstring) is scheduled to throw another simulated game early next week and could be reinstated from the 15-day injured list shortly thereafter, Theo Mackie of The Arizona Republic reports.

Advice: After tossing 31- and 37-pitch bullpen sessions last week, Gallen advanced to facing hitters in a simulated game Tuesday. Gallen's strained right hamstring apparently responded well to the workout, but the Diamondbacks will still have him toss another sim game during the upcoming week before signing off on his return to the rotation. If all goes well during his second sim game, Gallen could return at some point during the Diamondbacks' series in Oakland next weekend. Rotowire.com Thursday, 8:20 am

  • Josiah Gray goes 79 pitches in latest rehab start
Josiah Gray (elbow) pitched well in Wednesday’s minor league rehab start at Double-A Harrisburg, allowing two runs on three hits over five innings of work.

Advice: The right-hander punched out five batters on the night while issuing three free passes. Gray got up to 79 pitches in the outing, and the original plan had been for him to make one additional rehab start after this one to get to around six innings or 90 pitches. Given how strong he has looked though, there’s a chance that the Nationals could opt to bring him back early. Either way, he could rejoin the Nationals’ rotation before the end of next week. • Goes yard twice in loss
Harper went 2-for-4 with two solo home runs in Wednesday's 5-2 loss to the Padres.

Advice: The 31-year-old slugger supplied all the Phillies' offense on the afternoon, taking Matt Waldron deep in the third inning before pulling a Jeremiah Estrada splitter down the right-field line in the eighth. Harper has caught fire in June, hitting safely in 10 of the last 11 games while batting .372 (16-for-43). The surge has boosted his slash line on the season to .285/.391/.539 with 17 homers, four steals, 45 runs and 48 RBI in 69 contests. Rotowire.com Wednesday, 2:07 pm

  • Settles for no-decision Wednesday
Suarez came away with a no-decision in Wednesday's 5-2 loss to the Padres, allowing one run on six hits over six innings. He struck out four without walking a batter.

Advice: The lefty was sharp as he delivered his 10th quality start of the season, firing 67 of 94 pitches for strikes, but he was locked in a pitchers' duel with Matt Waldron until the Phillies' bullpen and defense faltered after Suarez left the mound. The 28-year-old will take a 1.75 ERA, 0.89 WHIP and 95:19 K:BB through 92.1 innings into his next outing, which is scheduled to come on the road early next week in Detroit. • Bryce Harper clobbers two solo homers in loss
Bryce Harper launched two solo homers on Wednesday in the Phillies’ loss to the Padres.

Advice: Harper connected on a center-cut sinker from Padres knuckleballer Matt Waldron, clobbering a game-tying no-doubter to left-center field in the third inning. He capped off his 27th career multi-homer performance by taking San Diego reliever Jeremiah Estrada out to right field in the eighth inning. The 31-year-old fantasy superstar is up to 17 round-trippers on the season after notching his first multi-homer effort since a three-homer explosion back on April 2. • Ranger Suárez keeps rolling Wednesday vs. Padres
Ranger Suárez gave up one run over six innings on Wednesday in a no-decision against the Padres.

Advice: Suárez rolled out his entire five-pitch arsenal on a scorching-hot, 87-degree Wednesday afternoon at Citizens Bank Park, limiting San Diego’s strong lineup to just a second-inning solo shot by rookie Jackson Merrill over six frames of work. He struck out four and didn’t hand out a free pass. The 28-year-old southpaw appears to be on the precipice of his first All-Star game selection as he’s allowed three earned runs or fewer in all but one of his 15 starts so far. He’ll carry a sparkling 1.75 ERA, 0.89 WHIP and 95/19 K/BB ratio across 92 1/3 innings (15 starts) into a favorable road tilt on Tuesday against the Tigers. Rotoworld Wednesday, 12:47 pm
