• Boone: Scott Effross (elbow) to face hitters ‘soon’
Yankees manager Aaron Boone told reporters that Scott Effross (elbow) will start facing hitters “soon.”

Advice: Effross has missed all of 2024 while recovering from Tommy John surgery he underwent in December of 2022. The 30-year-old could be a contributor to the bullpen at some point this summer, but he’ll likely need a lengthy rehab assignment before he can help. Rotoworld 34 minutes ago
  • Won't throw this week
Cardinals manager Oliver Marmol said Sunday that Matz will require another pain-killing injection for the protruding disc in his lower back and won't resume throwing for at least another week, John Denton of MLB.com reports.

Advice: With Matz having yet to even resume playing catch since landing on the 15-day injured list May 3 due to the back issue, he appears safe to rule out for a return when he's first eligible to come off the IL next weekend. The southpaw had initially been scheduled to throw a bullpen session Tuesday, but the Cardinals opted to have him get another injection for his back after he hadn't responded to a week of rest as well as the team had hoped. The Cardinals will turn to Matthew Liberatore to make a second straight start in place of Matz on Monday versus the Angels. Rotowire.com 39 minutes ago

  • Set for start Monday
Cardinals manager Oliver Marmol said Liberatore will start Monday's series opener against the Angels in Anaheim, John Denton of MLB.com reports.

Advice: After he had worked out of the bullpen all season, Liberatore was on a limited pitch count when he was called upon to take over the injured Steven Matz's (back) spot in the rotation last Sunday versus the White Sox. Liberatore struck out five and allowed one earned run over 3.2 innings in a no-decision against Chicago before shifting back to the bullpen for this weekend's series in Milwaukee. He recorded just one out while allowing two earned runs in Friday's 11-2 loss, so Liberatore will be taking the hill on two days' rest Monday. Expect Liberatore to once again operate on a pitch limit, making him an unappealing streaming target. Rotowire.com 43 minutes ago
  • Ready for rehab assignment
Clarke (knee) will begin a rehab assignment Sunday with Triple-A Nashville, Curt Hogg of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports.

Advice: Clarke is ready for his first game action of the regular season after he suffered a meniscus injury late in spring training that ultimately required surgery. The right-hander has seemingly avoided any snags in the recovery process, prompting the Brewers to clear him for what will likely be a lengthy rehab assignment as he looks to build back up following the prolonged shutdown. The reliever is targeting a return from the 15-day injured list in late May. Rotowire.com 48 minutes ago

  • Steven Matz (back) to be shutdown from throwing
Steven Matz (back) will receive an injection in his back and will be shut down from throwing for a week.

Advice: The injection will take place either Sunday or Monday. Matz was scheduled to throw a bullpen Sunday, but instead he’ll go at least a week before throwing off the mound. There’s no timetable for when the 32-year-old will return, but this obviously counts as a step backwards. Rotoworld Today, 9:37 am

  • Sent down to Triple-A
The Marlins optioned Soriano to Triple-A Jacksonville on Sunday.

Advice: Soriano was recalled by Miami on Tuesday to add some bullpen depth. He appeared in two games following his call-up, giving up four runs on four hits and one walk while striking out four over 4.2 frames. Rotowire.com Today, 9:26 am
  • Hayden Wesneski making move to bullpen
Cubs manager Craig Counsell told reporter that Hayden Wesneski will be available out of the bullpen for the upcoming series against Atlanta.

Advice: The Cubs will start Shota Imanaga and Jameson Taillon against Atlanta on Monday and Tuesday, respectively, and a starter for Wednesday’s game hasn’t been announced. Wesneski has pitched well in his last three starts with a 2.20 ERA, but for now, he’s going to operate out of the bullpen which severely limits his fantasy potential. Rotoworld Today, 9:23 am
  • Shifts to 60-day IL
The Marlins transferred Chargois (neck) from the 15-day injured list to the 60-day IL on Sunday.

Advice: Chargois began the season on the 15-day IL due to neck spasms that kept him out of action during spring training. He made three rehab appearances with Triple-A Jacksonville, but he suffered a setback and hasn't pitched in the minors since April 26. It's unclear when the Marlins anticipate Chargois will be ready to make his 2024 MLB debut, but as a result of his move to the 60-day IL, he won't be eligible for activation until late May. • Marlins place JT Chargois (neck) on 60-day IL
Marlins transferred RHP JT Chargois (neck) from the 15-day injured list to the 60-day injured list.

Advice: It creates space on the 40-man roster for Tristan Gray. Chargois is currently out with a neck injury, and he has no timetable for a return at this point. The earliest he can be activated is now May 27. Rotoworld Today, 9:17 am
