    Paxton (5-0) earned the win over the Padres on Saturday, pitching six shutout innings while allowing four hits and striking out four.

    Advice: Paxton never found himself in any serious trouble throughout the contest, allowing only one extra-base hit as the Dodgers cruised to a shutout win. The veteran lefty threw 15 of 22 first pitches for strikes and produced 10 whiffs on the night en route to earning his fifth win of the campaign. Paxton has allowed one run or fewer in back-to-back starts and in four of his seven outings this season. Saturday also marked his first start this season in which he didn't issue a walk.     Hoerner went 1-for-3 with a walk, a solo home run, an additional run scored and two total RBI in Saturday's 10-9 loss to the Pirates.

    Advice: Hoerner took rookie Paul Skenes deep in the fourth inning for just his second long ball of the season. He drove in another run an inning later when he walked with the bases loaded. The low power output isn't too surprising, as Hoerner had only nine home runs last year and just 10 in 2022.     Jarvis (0-2) was the losing pitcher in Saturday's 5-4 extra-innings loss to Baltimore. He allowed one run on one hit and two walks while striking out one over one-plus innings.

    Advice: Arizona manager Torey Lovullo turned to Jarvis, the team's long arm out of the bullpen, to navigate extra frames. The lefty managed to extricate himself from a bases-loaded jam in the 10th inning thanks to double-play groundout but couldn't escape the 11th. Jordan Westburg reached down for the first pitch -- a slider at the bottom of the zone -- and got the end of the bat on the ball which landed just inside the right field line, plating the automatic runner for the Orioles' walk-off win.     JJ Bleday clobbered a two-run homer on Saturday, propelling the Athletics to an 8-1 blowout win over the Mariners.

    Advice: Bleday didn’t go deep until the final frame when the Athletics were already by a comfortable margin, but fantasy managers certainly won’t complain.     Advice: Raleigh went deep for the first time since walloping a pinch-hit grand slam earlier this week against the Twins, taking Athletics rookie Joey Estes deep to right-center field in the second inning.   • Joey Estes quiets M’s to net win in season debut
    Joey Estes struck out five and allowed one run over five innings on Saturday in a win over the Mariners.

    Advice: Estes was magnificent in his season debut, holding Seattle’s offense to just a second-inning homer by slugging backstop Cal Raleigh over five frames. The 22-year-old righty was hit hard in a pair of late-season starts last year for Oakland, and held an ERA north of six this year at Triple-A Las Vegas prior to his latest call-up, so we’re going to wait a bit before recommending him as a reliable fantasy option. However, this was an encouraging outing. He’ll look to keep the momentum going on Thursday when he faces the Astros, assuming the Athletics are going to give him another turn in the rotation.   • Teoscar Hernández hits grand slam to beat Padres
    Teoscar Hernández slugged a grand slam on Saturday, lifting the Dodgers to a 5-0 victory over the Padres.

    Advice: Hernández continues to make a significant impact in his Los Angeles debut. The 31-year-old lefty-mashing corner outfielder gave the Dodgers a commanding five-run advantage in the sixth inning by taking Padres reliever Enyel De Los Santos deep to left field for his 11th round-tripper of the season. He’s never going to be a standout in the batting average department at this stage of his career, but he’s continuing to hit for a ton of power and has been a run-producing machine in the heart of the Dodgers’ loaded lineup.     James Paxton fired six shutout innings on Saturday in a win over the Padres.

    Advice: Paxton continues to excel in his Los Angeles debut, reeling off six scoreless frames to stun the division-rival Padres at Petco Park. He finished with four strikeouts, didn’t hand out a free pass, and allowed just six batted balls with an exit velocity in excess of 95 mph. The 35-year-old veteran southpaw has managed to stay healthy so far, and has been an impact fantasy contributor, despite a steep decline in strikeout percentage. He’s overdue for some regression in the run-prevention department, but he’s been effective so far.     Matt Waldron was charged with two runs over 5 1/3 innings on Saturday in a loss to the Dodgers.

    Advice: Waldron managed to limit Los Angeles’ formidable lineup to just one run into the sixth inning, but San Diego’s offense was unable to provide him with any run support at all in this one. It was a much-needed bounce-back effort after being torched for eight runs (seven earned) by the Diamondbacks his last time out. The 27-year-old knuckleballer will bring an inflated 5.49 ERA, 1.45 WHIP and 35/15 K/BB ratio across 39 1/3 innings (eight starts) into a tough road matchup on Friday against the Braves.
