    • Has ankle injury
Steer is dealing with a sore ankle, Mark Sheldon of MLB.com reports.

Advice: Steer was held out of the starting lineup Sunday as a result of the ankle but served as a pinch hitter. He walked for Will Benson with the bases loaded in the seventh inning and was removed for a pinch runner. Cincinnati manager David Bell said Steer should be back to 100 percent for Tuesday's series opener at home against the Padres. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 5:11 am

    • Takes loss in extra frame
Diaz (1-3) took the loss in 10 innings Sunday against the Dodgers, allowing an unearned run on one hit and a walk over an inning of work. He also struck out a batter.

Advice: Diaz struck out Jason Heyward in the ninth to send the game into an extra frame. He was an out away from getting through the 10th, but Shohei Ohtani laced a base hit to right that scored Heyward to end the game. Diaz has now given up five total runs on four hits over his last 2.1 innings, which has also come with two losses and a blown save. He's given up nine runs in 4.2 innings in May. Despite the struggles, manager David Bell has not made any public comments about a possible closer change, suggesting Diaz's job is save for now. He now owns a 7.02 ERA, 1.68 WHIP and 17:13 K:BB in 16.2 innings. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 3:50 am
    • Lands six-out save
Garrett earned the save Sunday against Miami, allowing one hit and no walks with four strikeouts over two scoreless innings.

Advice: Garrett took the ball in the eighth with the Mets leading 4-3 and, after striking out the side and getting four runs of support, stayed out to complete the ninth. It's unclear if Garrett would still have gotten the save chance if New York didn't extend its lead, but he's still a candidate for saves moving forward with Edwin Diaz moving out of the closer role temporarily to get back on track. • Converts 10th save
Bednar walked one in a scoreless and hitless inning to earn the save in Sunday's 3-2 win over the Cubs.

Advice: Bednar took the loss in Saturday's game versus the Cubs, but he bounced back with a scoreless inning for his 10th save of the season. The right-hander has given up three runs on seven hits and three walks over 8.1 innings in May, but he also has five saves in nine appearances this month. Overall, he's at a 7.85 ERA, 1.42 WHIP and 21:6 K:BB through 18.1 innings, though he's settled down after a brutal April. Rotowire.com Sunday, 8:21 pm

    • David Bednar slams door on Cubs on Sunday
David Bednar slammed the door on the Cubs in the ninth inning on Sunday afternoon, preserving a one-run lead to earn his 10th save of the season.

Advice: It hasn’t always been easy for Bednar this season, but he has been much better of late and made things look easy on Sunday. He got Christopher Morel on a pop out to shortstop and Ian Happ on a pop out to third base to start the inning before issuing a two-out walk to Michael Busch. Not to worry though, as he battled back to retire Patrick Wisdom to end it. Bednar will look to further improve upon his bloated 7.85 ERA his next time out. Rotoworld Sunday, 2:07 pm

    • Reed Garrett with two-inning save
Reed Garrett struck out four Marlins and allowed one hit in two innings to close out the Mets’ 7-3 win on Sunday. The save was his second of the season.

Advice: Garrett has been lights out this season for the Mets and one of their most important players, let alone relievers. His strikeout rate is still hovering around an otherworldly 40% and Edwin Díaz’s disastrous week means Garrett is likely in line for some more save opportunities moving forward. • Save chances possible
Garrett will likely be in the mix for save chances going forward after manager Carlos Mendoza said Sunday that closer Edwin Diaz will shift to a "fluid" role, Paige Leckie of MLB.com reports.

Advice: It's not a full demotion, but Diaz is now slated for lower-leverage work to help get his confidence back after giving up seven runs in his past three outings. Garrett entered 2024 with a 7.11 ERA in 31 career appearances in the big leagues, but he's turned into a major bullpen piece for the Mets with a 0.78 ERA, 1.17 WHIP and 37:11 K:BB in 23 innings. Adam Ottavino should also be an option for saves until Diaz is back on track. Rotowire.com Sunday, 12:41 pm

    • Taking seat Sunday
Steer is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Dodgers.

Advice: Steer is mired in an 0-for-16 slump and will head to the bench Sunday. Will Benson will shift to left field for the series finale in Los Angeles while Stuart Fairchild and Jake Fraley start in center and right, respectively. Rotowire.com Sunday, 11:46 am

    • Still sitting Sunday
Diaz (hand) is not in the lineup for Sunday's game against the Giants, Luke Zahlmann of The Denver Gazette reports.

Advice: It's the fourth straight absence for Diaz as he continues to nurse a hand injury. He'll have Monday's team off day to aid in his recovery ahead of Tuesday's series opener in Oakland. Jacob Stallings will work behind the plate Sunday for Colorado. Rotowire.com Sunday, 11:28 am
