• Throwing live batting practice
Pivetta (elbow) will throw a 50-pitch live batting practice session Saturday, Christopher Smith of The Springfield Republican reports.

Advice: If Pivetta comes out the live BP session without any hiccups, he should be cleared to make a rehab start next week. That would probably set him up to rejoin the Red Sox' rotation the following week if all goes well. Pivetta has been out since early April with a right elbow flexor strain. Rotowire.com 2 minutes ago

  • Could make season debut Tuesday
Grissom (hamstring) will play back-to-back full rehab games at Triple-A Worcester on Saturday and Sunday and could be activated from the injured list Tuesday, Ian Browne of MLB.com reports.

Advice: Grissom has gone 5-for-22 with two doubles and two steals so far in seven rehab games as he works his way back from a hamstring injury. As long as he comes out of Saturday's and Sunday's contests with no issues, he could be ready for his Red Sox and season debut Tuesday against the Giants. Grissom is slated to be Boston's everyday shortstop, although it's possible he'll have extra off days mixed in initially. Rotowire.com 5 minutes ago

  • Requires Tommy John surgery
Miley was diagnosed with a torn UCL in his left elbow Friday and will undergo Tommy John surgery, Adam McCalvy of MLB.com reports.

Advice: The 37-year-old landed on the shelf with elbow swelling early in the week and had his initial MRI results come back inconclusive, but an in-person arthrogram revealed the worst-case scenario. It's a brutal development for the Brewers' rotation and Miley individually, who at this point plans to continue his career after recovering from the procedure. Rotowire.com 9 minutes ago

  • Wasn't available after all
Tigers manager A.J. Hinch said that Kelly (ribs) wasn't available off the bench after all on Friday, Cody Stavenhagen of The Athletic reports.

Advice: Kelly was a late scratch from the lineup after his left ribcage "locked up" on him pregame. While the team isn't overly concerned about the injury, Hinch indicated that the injured list is a possibility since the club doesn't want to play short a catcher. Jake Rogers will be the Tigers' primary backstop while Kelly recovers. Rotowire.com 9 minutes ago

  • Wilyer Abreu absent from Red Sox’ lineup on Friday
Wilyer Abreu is absent from the Red Sox’ starting lineup for Friday night’s showdown against the Cubs.

Advice: It looks to be just a regular day of rest with tough left-hander Shota Imanaga taking the hill for the Cubs. Abreu did remain in the lineup (and in the cleanup spot in the order) the last time that the Red Sox faced a southpaw, so hopefully this is just a regular maintenance type of thing and not a sign of things to come. Rob Refsnyder will start in his place in left field and will bat third against the Cubs on Friday night at Fenway Park. Rotoworld 12 minutes ago

  • Hopes to throw in 3-to-7 days
Green (shoulder) hopes to begin throwing in 3-to-7 days, Kaitlyn McGrath of The Athletic reports.

Advice: Green is nearly a week removed from landing on the 15-day injured list with a teres major strain in his right shoulder. He will rehab for a few more days before hopefully starting a throwing program. Green still looks to be multiple weeks away from rejoining the Blue Jays. Rotowire.com 12 minutes ago

  • Making another rehab start
Manager Dave Roberts said Friday on MLB Network Radio on SiriusXM that Buehler (elbow) will make another rehab start with Triple-A Oklahoma City on Tuesday before potentially joining the Dodgers.

Advice: The right-hander through 86 pitches and allowed five runs (three earned) over 4.1 innings Wednesday at Oklahoma City, and he'll require at least one more rehab outing before making his 2024 debut for the Dodgers. Buehler's performance in five starts during the rehab assignment has been underwhelming with a 4.86 ERA, 1.68 WHIP and 16:9 K:BB over 16.2 innings. Rotowire.com 16 minutes ago

  • Luis Robert Jr. (hip) expected to return mid-May
White Sox’ general manager Chris Getz said Friday that Luis Robert Jr. (hip) should be able to return to the team’s lineup in mid-May.

Advice: That would put him at the front end of that initial 6-8 week timeframe that was given when he was diagnosed with a Grade 2 hip flexor strain. The White Sox could most certainly benefit from the 26-year-old superstar’s return to the lineup, as their offense has really struggled to score runs consistently. Getz also noted that Tommy Pham and Rafael Ortega will carry the load in center field until Robert is able to return. Rotoworld 16 minutes ago

  • Bobby Witt Jr. plates three runs to lead Royals
Bobby Witt Jr. went 1-for-4 with a triple and three RBI on Friday afternoon, propelling the Royals to an 8-0 victory over the Tigers in Detroit.

Advice: The 23-year-old superstar opened the scoring in the third inning with a sacrifice fly off of Reese Olson. That would be the only run scored for either side until the Royals broke the game open with a seven-run ninth inning. Witt featured heavily in that frame, crushing a three-run triple off of Will Vest and scoring on a sacrifice fly off the bat of Vinnie Pasquantino. He has lived up to his lofty fantasy draft status so far this season — slashing .306/.350/.565 with four homers, 14 RBI and seven stolen bases through his first 27 games. Rotoworld 20 minutes ago
