    • Nabs win Tuesday
      Scott (2-4) picked up the win in Tuesday's extra-inning victory over the Tigers, giving up a hit and a walk in a scoreless ninth inning. He struck out two.

      Advice: Rather than being held back for a possible save situation in extra innings on the road, Scott got the call in the ninth with the score tied 0-0 and was able to escape the jam he created. The southpaw hasn't allowed an earned run in 10 straight appearances, but Scott's been far from sharp during that time, posting an 11:7 K:BB in 9.1 innings. That's still an improvement on his early-season performance, and his 2.12 ERA on the year isn't supported by his 1.53 WHIP or 18:17 K:BB in 17 frames. Scott is still the Marlins' closer and has converted four of five save chances, but A.J.       Benson started in center field and batted leadoff, going 1-for-4 with a two-run home run in Tuesday's 6-2 win over Arizona.

      Advice: Benson delivered the go-ahead knock in the fifth inning, his first home run since April 27. With TJ Friedl (thumb) landing on the injured list, Benson is likely to fill in against right-handers, while Stuart Fairchild operates against lefties.     • Ronel Blanco plans to appeal 10-game suspension
      Ronel Blanco told reporters late Tuesday that he plans to appeal his automatic 10-game suspension.

      Advice: Blanco was ejected by third base umpire Laz Diaz during Tuesday’s start against the Athletics, and his glove was confiscated, following a foreign substance check at the outset of the fourth inning. Astros manager Joe Espada told reporters afterwards that Blanco had a mixture of rosin and sweat on his glove hand, which is illegal under league rules. The 30-year-old righty has denied using an illegal substance, but is still facing an automatic 10-game suspension under league rules, which he plans to appeal.       Vaughn went 2-for-3 with a walk, two home runs and four RBI in a 4-0 win over the Nationals during the second game of Tuesday's doubleheader.

      Advice: After looking shaky in the matinee by going 0-for-4 with two strikeouts, Vaughn's bat roared to life in the nightcap as he crushed a three-run homer off Mitchell Parker in the third inning before adding a solo shot off Jackson Rutledge in the eighth. All three of Vaughn's long balls on the season have come in the last five games, and over his last seven contests the 26-year-old first baseman has gone 9-for-26 (.346) with three doubles and six RBI.       Will Benson hit a two-run homer as the Reds’ leadoff man Tuesday in the win over the Diamondbacks.

      Advice: Benson figured to play less with TJ Friedl back, but he gained an unfortunate reprieve when Friedl suffered a broken thumb. There’s still some fantasy potential here, even though he’s been an obvious disappointment with his .193/.288/.393 line to date. He now has five homers and eight steals in 153 plate appearances.       Bregman went 2-for-4 with a solo home run and a double in Tuesday's 2-1 extra-inning win over the Athletics.

      Advice: Bregman entered the Oakland series with one homer on the year, but he's hit three long balls and added two doubles over his last two games. The third baseman has gone 10-for-24 (.417) during a six-game hitting streak, though he's still got a long way to go to get his season-long numbers at an acceptable level.       Advice: Vaughn was a one-man wrecking crew in this one and appears to be coming out of his extended slump at the outset of the season with three homers over his last four contests. He took Nationals starter Parker Mitchell deep for a three-run shot in the third inning before capping off the multi-homer effort with an eighth-inning solo blast off rookie Jackson Rutledge.       Advice: The umpires confiscated Blanco's glove for further examination from Major League Baseball, and the 30-year-old righty will be hit with an automatic 10-game suspension if it's determined that he used an illegal substance while on the mound. Blanco has emerged as a crucial part of Houston's rotation this season, carrying a 2.23 ERA and 1.02 WHIP alongside a 41:20 K:BB across 44.1 innings through his first seven starts.
