      Advice: Romano resumed his throwing program Monday and has already been stretched out to 90 feet. The 31-year-old has been brought along slowly since being placed on the 15-day IL with elbow inflammation and it's unclear if he'll require a rehab assignment at this point.     • Blows save chance Thursday
      Kopech (2-6) blew a save but earned the win over the Mariners on Thursday, allowing one run on one hit while striking out two batters over one inning.

      Advice: Kopech was summoned in the ninth inning to try to protect a one-run Chicago lead but served up a one-out, game-tying solo shot to Julio Rodriguez. To his credit, Kopech bounced back to retire the next two batters and send the game to extra frames, and he was credited with a win as a result of the White Sox pushing across a run in the 10th. Kopech hasn't been very effective in a closing role for Chicago -- he hasn't notched a save since May 15 and is just 5-for-9 in save opportunities this season. He has a 4.91 ERA and 1.50 WHIP over 29.1 innings, though his 13.2 K/9 is characteristic of what most teams look for from a closer. Rotowire.com Friday, 1:08 am

      Michael Kopech blew a save but picked up a win while allowing a run over an inning of work against the Mariners on Thursday.

      Advice: Kopech gets the win despite allowing a game-tying homer to Julio Rodriguez with two outs in the ninth. The win stat has zero flaws and anyone who suggests otherwise is providing falsehoods.       Advice: Kopech imploded to allow three earned runs and blow a lead in an appearance Monday, but he managed to bounce back in this outing. He entered the game with the score tied at 1-1 and turned in just his third scoreless effort in his last five appearances.     • Michael Kopech blows three-run lead in eighth
      Michael Kopech gave up three runs in the eighth to take a blown save Monday in the loss to the Mariners.

      Advice: Look, we’re not totally blaming Pedro Grifol for tonight’s loss, but that stuff like this keeps happening to the White Sox hardly seems like a coincidence. Grifol left his starter in to begin the eighth in a 4-0 game tonight, only to pull him immediately after a leadoff homer. Kopech, the White Sox’s primary closer, then came in with no outs in the eighth and struggled in retiring just two of the eight batters he faced. That made it a tie game going into the ninth, and Jordan Leasure, the top fallback to Kopech, wound up surrendering a walkoff grand slam, of all things. Everything is a disaster with the White Sox now, and while Kopech still offers value for teams desperate for saves, it’s hard to argue for him in shallow leagues, especially with the way Grifol is treating him.       Romano (elbow) is expected to resume throwing Monday, Shi Davidi of Sportsnet.ca reports.

      Advice: The right-hander will throw from flat ground and stretch out to 150 feet before beginning mound work. The Blue Jays are proceeding cautiously with their closer after he received an anti-inflammatory injection June 2, but Romano might still be able to avoid a rehab stint before being activated from the injured list.       Kopech allowed one hit and one walk while striking out two across a scoreless ninth inning Saturday against the Red Sox.

      Advice: Kopech was called upon to protect a five-run lead. He did so successfully, though he allowed three hitters to reach base -- he hit a batter in addition to the walk and hit he surrendered -- and required 33 pitches to retire the side.       Advice: Blue Jays manager John Schneider added that Romano received an anti-inflammatory injection in his right elbow last weekend. It’s going to take a couple weeks for the 31-year-old closer to build up his arm strength before returning to Toronto’s bullpen, but it’s an encouraging sign that he’s been cleared to resume throwing again.
