• Reed Garrett procures save against Diamondbacks
Reed Garrett hurled a scoreless ninth to get a save Thursday against the Diamondbacks.

Advice: Garrett has saved three games, and with Edwin Díaz out with a shoulder impingement, that number is likely to go up. Assuming New York wins games, of course. The right-hander did walk one batter, but he didn’t allow a hit and lowered his ERA to 2.54. If still available, Garrett is a nice stopgap closing option. Rotoworld Thursday, 6:57 pm
  • Rocked in Wednesday's loss
Ottavino (1-2) took the loss Wednesday against the Dodgers, coughing up four runs on three hits and a walk in one-third of an inning. He struck out one.

Advice: The veteran right-hander melted down in a disastrous eighth inning for the Mets, serving up a solo shot to Will Smith to lead off the frame and watching the two runners he left on base when he exited the mound come around to score. Ottavino has a brutal 9.28 ERA and 2.16 WHIP over 10.2 innings in May, and even with Edwin Diaz (shoulder) now on the IL, his spot in the team's high-leverage mix seems very shaky. • Moves past neck issue
Adams (neck) recorded one out and gave up one hit and one walk in a relief appearance during Wednesday's 4-3 loss to the Rays.

Advice: Adams was lifted early in his prior appearance Saturday against the Astros due to neck tightness, but the issue wasn't serious enough to warrant a stint on the injured list. The 33-year-old righty owns a 2.55 ERA, 1.30 WHIP and 25:8 K:BB in 17.2 innings out of the Oakland bullpen this season and has collected 12 holds. Rotowire.com Thursday, 8:05 am
  • Stuck with loss in quality start
Quintana (1-5) took the loss in the second game of Tuesday's doubleheader against the Dodgers, giving up three runs on eight hits over six innings. He struck out three without walking a batter.

Advice: The veteran lefty didn't pitch badly, but a lack of run support and homers by Will Smith and Miguel Vargas doomed him to defeat as the Mets fell, 3-0. The quality start was Quintana's third of the season, and he'll carry a 5.06 ERA, 1.36 WHIP and 39:18 K:BB through 58.2 innings into his next outing, which lines up to come on the road early next week against the Nationals. • Blows second save
Ottavino blew his second save of the season in the first game of Tuesday's doubleheader against the Dodgers, giving up a run on three hits in the ninth inning while striking out one.

Advice: Called upon to protect a 2-1 lead, Ottavino instead gave up three straight singles to begin the frame, although the third one came on a safety squeeze by Chris Taylor that the right-hander couldn't field cleanly. Ottavino hasn't been able to take advantage of Edwin Diaz's recent struggles, and he's stumbled to a 6.75 ERA and 1.93 WHIP over his last 10 appearances. The back of the Mets' bullpen is a mess right now, and it's not clear who manager Carlos Mendoza might turn to the next time the team has a late lead. Rotowire.com Wednesday, 7:04 am
  • Short start as expected
Eovaldi allowed two runs on five hits and struck out two without walking a batter over three innings while taking a no-decision in Tuesday's 4-2 win over the Diamondbacks.

Advice: Eovaldi wasn't sent on a rehab assignment and was reportedly on a pitch count for his return from a groin strain. The right-hander ended up throwing 37 pitches (27 strikes) in his first start since May 2. Eovaldi is at a 2.84 ERA, 1.20 WHIP and 46:19 K:BB through 44.1 innings over eight starts this season. Given his limited workload Tuesday, Eovaldi may need to be stretched out over the next couple of weeks. That may make it tough for him to qualify for the win in his next projected start. It's possible Eovaldi pitches again this weekend versus Miami, as Evan Grant of The Dallas Morning News reports that Andrew Heaney -- who threw 2.1 innings in relief Tuesday -- could be used as a long reliever while the Rangers' schedule doesn't require them to have five starters. • Eovaldi goes three innings in return from IL
Nathan Eovaldi allowed two earned runs over three innings in Tuesday’s win over the Diamondbacks.

Advice: After pitching a perfect first inning, Eovaldi ran into trouble in the second, allowing the first three batters he faced to reach base, with Pavin Smith doubling home Christian Walker to give the Diamondbacks their first run of the night. He would give up another run in the inning on a Eugenio Suárez sacrifice fly. He would only pitch one more inning before being pulled after 37 pitches, functioning somewhat as an opener for the Rangers after the team opted to scratch Dane Dunning from his scheduled start. It was Eovaldi’s first outing since May 2nd after he was placed on the 15-day IL with a groin strain. If he’s back on the five-game rotation, his next start would be scheduled for Monday against the Tigers. Rotoworld Tuesday, 7:28 pm

  • José Quintana allows two homers in loss to Dodgers
José Quintana allowed three runs over six innings on Tuesday in a loss to the Dodgers.

Advice: Quintana took the ball for the second game of Tuesday’s doubleheader at Citi Field and was tagged for eight hits, including homers by Will Smith and Miguel Vargas in the first and sixth inning, respectively. He notched three strikeouts and didn’t hand out a free pass. It wasn’t his worst outing of the season, but the veteran lefty got absolutely zero support from New York’s lineup in this one. He’ll bring an inflated 5.06 ERA, 1.36 WHIP and 39/18 K/BB ratio across 58 2/3 innings (11 starts) into a road matchup on Monday against the Nationals. Rotoworld Tuesday, 7:08 pm
  • Adam Ottavino blows save Tuesday vs. Dodgers
Adam Ottavino allowed one run in the ninth inning on Tuesday in a blown save against the Dodgers.

Advice: Ottavino got the call over Edwin Díaz to protect a one-run lead in the final frame and wound up surrendering three straight hits, including a game-tying hit single to Chris Taylor. The veteran righty managed to wriggle out of the jam without any further damage, but the Mets wound up falling in extra innings. Not great. It’s unclear where manager Carlos Mendoza will go from here, but we’re guessing Díaz will probably wind up getting the next save chance. Rotoworld Tuesday, 3:58 pm
