• Jhoan Duran gets hold against Blue Jays
Jhoan Duran pitched a hitless eighth against the Blue Jays for his third hold Friday.

Advice: Everything seemed great when Duran notched saves in his first two appearances back from the IL, but he’s been asked to pitch the eighth in three of four outings since. It’s strictly a leverage thing, but it’s annoying for us fantasy leaguers. Duran has been practically perfect since being activated, allowing a total of two hits in six scoreless innings. • Griffin Jax earns fifth save for Twins
Griffin Jax recorded his fifth save despite giving up a run in the ninth to the Blue Jays on Friday.

Advice: The Twins again opted to give Jhoan Duran what looked like the tougher assignment in the eighth. Jax came in with a two-run lead in the ninth and allowed a walk and two singles before finishing off the Blue Jays. He’s going to retain some value in deeper mixed leagues if the Twins keep using Duran like this. Rotoworld 45 minutes ago
  • Clay Holmes walks tightrope, escapes with save
Clay Holmes walked the tightrope in the ninth inning on Friday night, but escaped with his 12th save of the season after stranding the bases loaded with a two-run lead.

Advice: Holmes — who has yet to allow an earned run through 17 1/3 innings to begin the season — really had to work in this one. He issued a leadoff walk to Yandy Díaz and a one-out walk to Josh Lowe — striking out Randy Arozarena and Isaac Paredes in-between. He then allowed a two-out single to Austin Shenton that loaded the bases before striking out Jonny DeLuca after a six-pitch battle to end it. He now paces the league with 12 saves and has a 21/3 K/BB ratio to go along with it. Rotoworld Today, 6:33 pm
  • Josh Hader slams door on Tigers on Friday night
Josh Hader picked up his fifth save of the season on Friday night, working a scoreless ninth inning to preserve a three-run advantage against the Tigers.

Advice: After struggling for most of the season, Hader recorded saves on back-to-back nights for the first time all season. The 30-year-old southpaw did issue a two-out walk to Jake Rogers after getting Ryan Vilade on a swinging-third strike, Javier Baez on a fly ball to center, but he battled back to get Andy Ibanez on strikes to end it. He has now converted five of his first six save chances with an impressive 27/8 K/BB ratio over 17 innings on the year — it’s just the 5.29 ERA that looks horribly out of place. • Clears IL
The Royals reinstated Marsh (elbow) from the 15-day injured list Friday.

Advice: Marsh made his lone rehab start with Triple-A Omaha on May 5, striking out six and giving up one hit and one walk over four shutout innings while throwing 53 pitches. To make room for Marsh, the Royals optioned southpaw Daniel Lynch to Triple-A Omaha. Marsh will take the mound and start in Friday's series opener against the Angels. • Set for another outing
Smith (shoulder) is slated for an appearance for Triple-A Syracuse on Saturday, Tim Britton of The Athletic reports.

Advice: Smith started his rehab assignment with Syracuse on Wednesday, giving up a solo home run in the eighth inning while throwing 13 pitches. Smith is progressing through right shoulder inflammation that landed him on the 15-day IL on April 17. Rotowire.com Today, 3:45 pm

  • Throwing off mound
Johnson (elbow) began throwing off a mound Friday, Mark Bowman of MLB.com reports.

Advice: Just six days after landing on the injured list, Johnson has already been given the go-ahead to throw bullpen sessions. He will presumably throw a few more before progressing to facing hitters, but the 33-year-old righty could be on track to return to Atlanta's bullpen when eligible May 19. • MRI yields good results
Saucedo (knee) underwent an MRI on Friday which yielded "overall positive" results, Daniel Kramer of MLB.com reports.

Advice: Saucedo was placed on the 15-day injured list with a hyperextended right knee Wednesday and after Friday's imaging, the team is hopeful he can return to the bullpen when he's first eligible to be activated May 23. The left-hander will likely need to make at least one appearance on a rehab assignment before being activated. Rotowire.com Today, 3:32 pm

  • Expected back in July
General manager Justin Hollander said Friday that Santos (lat) will likely remain out until July, Daniel Kramer of MLB.com reports.

Advice: Santos has primarily been throwing from 60-to-90 feet at the Mariners' complex in Arizona, though he has thrown from up to 120 feet out. He will now move his rehab from Arizona to Seattle, though it remains unclear how far away the 24-year-old righty is from throwing off a mound. Santos has been on the IL all season due to a strained right lat. Rotowire.com Today, 3:19 pm
