    • José Alvarado blows save while allowing three runs
      José Alvarado took a loss and blew a save while allowing three runs — two earned — in 2/3 of an inning against the Mets on Sunday in a 6-5 loss for the Phillies.

      Advice: Alvarado is normally one of the more reliable stoppers in baseball, but Sunday wasn’t a good example of it. The southpaw issued a pair of walks and gave up two hits, and while he wasn’t helped by his defense, it was still a disappointing effort where he threw just 18-of-35 pitches for strikes.     • Yoshida (thumb) picks up hit in rehab game in AAA
      Masataka Yoshida (thumb) went 1-for-4 with a run scored in a rehab appearance with Triple-A Worcester.

      Advice: Yoshida was the designated hitter for the WooSox on Saturday, and he’s scheduled to DH again for Worcester on Sunday. Assuming those games go well, the 30-year-old is expected to rejoin the Red Sox at some point later this week. He should be in the lineup on close to an everyday basis once he’s back.       Yoshida (thumb) started as the designated hitter and went 1-for-4 with a run scored in a rehab game for Triple-A Worcester on Saturday.

      Advice: Yoshida played the first of two rehab games as the DH for Worcester and said that he felt no pain coming out of either contest, Julian McWilliams of The Boston Globe reports. He'll serve as Worcester's DH again Sunday, and the Red Sox hope to have him back from the 10-day injured list by the end of the week. Rotowire.com Today, 7:11 am
       
    • Yordan Alvarez powers Astros to win over Angels
      Yordan Alvarez went 3-for-4 with a two-run homer on Saturday, leading the Astros to a 6-1 victory over the Angels.

      Advice: Alvarez is seeing the ball exceptionally well of late, slashing .367/.430/.633 with six homers and 15 RBI over his last 28 games to raise his batting average from .239 to .296 during that period. The 26-year-old fantasy superstar took Angels starter Tyler Anderson deep in the fifth inning for his 13th round-tripper of the season as part of an impressive three-hit performance.       Alvarez went 3-for-4 with a two-run home run, two doubles and two total runs scored in Saturday's 6-1 win over the Angels.

      Advice: Alvarez is seeing the ball well lately, going 19-for-43 (.442) with four homers, five doubles, 11 RBI and just three strikeouts over his last 11 contests. He's even chipped in a pair of stolen bases in that span. Alvarez is up to 13 homers, 33 RBI, 37 runs scored, 15 doubles and three steals while slashing .296/.369/.514 over 64 contests.     • Freddie Freeman doubles twice in blowout win
      Freddie Freeman doubled twice and drove home a pair of runs in a blowout win Saturday over the Yankees.

      Advice: One of the doubles was a rare misplay from Alex Verdugo, but it still counts in the scoreboard. The 34-year-old now has doubled 19 times on the season while driving in 40 runs.     • Stumbles against ChiSox
      Bello (6-3) took the loss Saturday as the Red Sox fell 6-1 to the White Sox, giving up five runs on nine hits and three walks over 4.2 innings. He struck out two.

      Advice: Only two of the hits off the right-hander went for extra bases, but one of those was a grand slam by Gavin Sheets in the fifth inning. Bello has been tagged for at least three runs in five straight starts, a stretch in which he's stumbled to a 6.75 ERA, 1.69 WHIP and 24:12 K:BB over 26.2 innings.       Bradish (2-0) earned the win over Tampa Bay on Saturday, allowing one hit and no walks while striking out nine batters over six scoreless innings.

      Advice: Bradish was given two extra days of rest after struggling against the Rays in his previous start, and the extra time off proved to be a remedy to getting him back on the track. The right-hander allowed an infield single to the first batter he faced in the outing, then retired the final 18 hitters to step up to the plate against him. Bradish is still easing his way back after missing the first month of the campaign due to an elbow injury, which explains why he was pulled after just 88 pitches, but that was enough for him to pick up both his second win and second quality start.       Brayan Bello allowed five runs in 4 2/3 innings and took the loss against the White Sox on Saturday.

      Advice: Bello gave up nine hits, walked three and struck out two. Things came apart for Bello in the fifth inning when he walked two batters with two outs to load the bases before Gavin Sheets took him deep for a grand slam. Understandably frustrated, Bello slammed his glove in the dugout after he was removed from the game. That’s been the tale of Bello’s season so far as he has just a 70 percent left on base percentage.
