• Retreats to bench Wednesday
Velazquez is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Mariners.

Advice: Velazquez hasn't fully regained an everyday role yet, but he started each of the last four games (two against right-handers, two against left-handers) and is in the midst of a five-game hitting streak in which he's slashed .375/.412/.625. Even so, Velazquez will find himself as the odd man out of the lineup Wednesday while the Royals give Salvador Perez a day off behind the plate while keeping his bat in the starting nine at DH. • Goodman, Bouchard again sitting for Rockies
Hunter Goodman and Sean Bouchard are both on the bench for a third straight game Wednesday against the Padres.

Advice: The Rockies won the first two games of the series with Elehuris Montero at first and Jake Cave in right, so they’re not changing anything today. The handling of Goodman, one of the team’s best prospects, has been bizarre; he’s started just six of 19 games since his callup. One imagines he’ll be sent down soon. Bouchard, who has 160 points of OPS on Cave, had started seven straight games before taking a seat Monday. Rotoworld 21 minutes ago
  • Sent down to Triple-A
The Mariners optioned Haggerty to Triple-A Tacoma on Wednesday.

Advice: Haggerty hasn't been playing much and has done little in the opportunities he has received this season, recording one hit in 15 at-bats. Dominic Canzone (shoulder) was reinstated from the injured list and will take over Haggerty's spot on the 26-man active roster. Rotowire.com 32 minutes ago

  • Mariners activate Dominic Canzone from I.L.
Mariners activated OF Dominic Canzone from the 10-day injured list.

Advice: Canzone was hitting .219/.286/.531 in 14 games before going down with a shoulder injury. He was ahead of Luke Raley on the depth chart at that point, but with Raley heating up, he might take more of a backseat for now, at least assuming that Mitch Garver is able to return to the DH spot in the coming days. If Garver lands on the IL, both Raley and Canzone could start in the outfield against righties, with Mitch Haniger DHing. That is the alignment today, as Canzone is playing left and batting seventh. • Returns from IL
The Mariners reinstated Canzone (shoulder) from the 10-day injured list Wednesday.

Advice: The Mariners weren't expected to bring Canzone back from the IL until this weekend, but he'll end up joining the club for its series finale with the Royals after he checked out fine following his third rehab game with Triple-A Tacoma on Wednesday. Prior to landing on the shelf April 15 with a sprained AC joint in his left shoulder, Canzone had taken hold of a strong-side platoon role in left field. Those duties have largely fallen to Luke Raley during his absence, and though Raley has enjoyed a hot run at the plate of late, Canzone will step into the starting lineup in his first game back with the team. He'll man left field and bat seventh Wednesday against the Royals. Rotowire.com 35 minutes ago
  • Not in Wednesday's lineup
Merrill is not in the lineup for Wednesday's game versus the Rockies.

Advice: The Rockies are sending southpaw Austin Gomber to the hill, so Padres manager Mike Shildt decided it would be a good day to give the left-handed hitting Merrill a breather. Jose Azocar will patrol center field Wednesday. Rotowire.com 35 minutes ago
  • Mariners send Sam Haggerty to Triple-A
Mariners optioned INF/OF Sam Haggerty to Triple-A Tacoma.

Advice: Haggerty was 1-for-15 since being recalled on Apr. 29. His versatility makes him a fair enough 26th man, but the Mariners don’t have much need for him right now. Rotoworld 36 minutes ago

  • Swipes second bag
Outman went 1-for-3 with a double, a walk, a run and a stolen base Tuesday in a 10-2 win against the Giants.

Advice: Batting out of the No. 9 hole, Outman reached base twice for the first time since May 4 and knocked just his second extra-base hit since April 24. It's been a struggle for the outfielder in his sophomore MLB campaign, as he's slashing a meager .155/.256/.282 with three homers, 10 RBI, two steals and a 31.6 percent strikeout rate through 117 plate appearances. He's gone 2-for-22 with 10 punchouts over eight games in May. Rotowire.com 50 minutes ago
  • On bench against lefty
Suwinski is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Brewers.

Advice: Lefty Robert Gasser is on the bump for Milwaukee, so the lefty-hitting Suwinski will retreat to the bench for the series finale. Edward Olivares will fill in for Suwinski in right field and will bat fifth. Rotowire.com 53 minutes ago
