• Dylan Carlson (shoulder) nearing return to STL
Dylan Carlson (shoulder) has returned from his rehab assignment and is with the Cardinals on Saturday.

Advice: Keep in mind that with the Cardinals is not the same thing as being activated off the injured list. That being said, a return is obviously close for the 25-year-old outfielder. Once active, Carlson should be an option for the outfield, but not necessarily one fantasy managers should be running to the waiver wire to add. Rotoworld Today, 9:03 am

  • Cole (elbow) throws 15 pitches in bullpen session
Gerrit Cole (elbow) threw 15 pitches in a bullpen session Saturday.

Advice: It’s the first session for Cole since March when the right-hander was shut down with nerve inflammation in his right elbow. The next step is likely another session in the pen for the 33-year-old, but it’s a positive sign with Cole reportedly “giddy” over how things went. The hope is that he can return to the mound in the middle of June. So far, so good. Rotoworld Today, 8:21 am

  • Altuve drives in run, steals base in win over M’s
Jose Altuve went 1-for-4 with an RBI single in a win Friday over the Mariners.

Advice: Altuve hit a perfect safety squeeze to knock in his 12th run of the game and give Houston a 4-3 lead in the seventh inning. The steal was the seventh of the season and 300th of his career. Altuve has been sensational thus far in 2024, and is playing near — if not at — the MVP level he reached not all that long ago. • Hunter Renfroe swats homer as KC beats Texas
Hunter Renfroe homered and walked in a rout of the Rangers on Friday.

Advice: Renfroe got the Royals on the board with a solo shot in the fifth off an otherwise-excellent Michael Lorenzen. The outfielder has gone deep three times in his first season with Kansas City, but the .155/.228/.298 line tells the story of how ineffective he’s been in the first month-plus. • Sits down against lefty
Butler isn't in Oakland's lineup for Friday's game against Miami.

Advice: The lefty-hitting Butler will retreat to the bench Friday as Ryan Weathers prepares to start on the bump for the Marlins. Tyler Nevin will replace Butler in right field and bat second. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 4:28 pm
  • Resting against lefty
Brown isn't in the Athletics' lineup Friday against the Marlins.

Advice: Left-hander Ryan Weathers will take the mound Friday for Miami, meaning the left-handed bat of Brown will stay put in Oakland's dugout. Max Schuemann will fill the opening in left field and bat seventh. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 4:24 pm

  • Set to play in outfield Friday
Carlson (shoulder) will play nine innings in the field for Triple-A Memphis on Friday, Jeff Jones of the Belleville News-Democrat reports.

Advice: Carlson has started as the designated hitter in two of his last three games with Memphis, though he did start in center field Wednesday. He'll reprise that role Friday against Triple-A Charlotte and will attempt to stay in the outfield for the entire game. In his last outing with Memphis on Thursday, Carlson went 2-for-3 with a solo home run. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 2:42 pm

  • Pirates activate Yasmani Grandal from 10-day IL
Pirates activated C Yasmani Grandal from the 10-day injured list.

Advice: The 35-year-old backstop is ready to make his Pirates’ debut after recovering from plantar fasciitis in his right foot. With Henry Davis optioned to Triple-A Indianapolis on Friday, Grandal will share the load behind the plate with Joey Bart for the foreseeable future. Rotoworld Yesterday, 2:34 pm

  • Returns from injured list
The Pirates activated Grandal (foot) from the 10-day injured list Friday, Kevin Gorman of TribLive.com reports.

Advice: Grandal got a late start to the season while battling plantar fasciitis in his left foot, but he participated in nine rehab games with Triple-A Indianapolis and is feeling well enough to join the active roster after batting .257 (9-for-35) with two doubles and a homer. The veteran catcher is likely to share starts behind the dish with Joey Bart. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 12:39 pm
