• Scratched Friday
Mendick was scratched from Friday's lineup against the Cardinals.

Advice: Mendick was slated to bat seventh and play third base but was moved out of the lineup for reasons yet to be disclosed. Instead, Braden Shewmake will play third and bat ninth. Rotowire.com 5 minutes ago

  • Back in big leagues
The Twins recalled Martin from Triple-A St. Paul on Friday, Betsy Helfand of the St. Paul Pioneer Press reports.

Advice: The 25-year-old was sent to St. Paul on Monday but will quickly rejoin the Twins as Byron Buxton (knee) landed on the injured list. Martin, Manuel Margot and Willi Castro could all see action in center field while Buxton is unavailable. Rotowire.com 7 minutes ago

  • Resumes throwing program
Cobb (hip) has been cleared to begin a throwing program, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.

Advice: Cobb had to halt his throwing program last week after experiencing soreness in his pitching shoulder, but tests came back clean and he'll now try to ramp things back up following a brief shutdown period. The right-hander will be eligible for activation from the 60-day injured list in late May, but it's too soon to know whether he might have a shot to be ready at that time. • Jake Fraley (illness) returns to action on Friday
Jake Fraley (illness) returned to the Reds’ starting lineup for Friday night’s contest against the Orioles.

Advice: Fraley missed the better part of three weeks while battling the illness that was making its way through the Reds’ clubhouse — then developed bronchitis after returning to the lineup for a couple of days. It’s strange to see him in the lineup against a left-hander, but fantasy managers have to be pleased to see his name in the lineup card at all these days. He’ll bat eighth against Cole Irvin and the Orioles. Rotoworld 14 minutes ago

  • Put on injured list
Eovaldi was placed on the 15-day injured list on Friday with a strained right groin.

Advice: Eovaldi underwent an MRI on Friday which confirmed a right groin strain. He'll be placed on the 15-day IL -- joining Max Scherzer (back) -- while Yerry Rodriguez will join the big league roster in Eovaldi's place. Eovaldi's next start was scheduled for Tuesday, an opening that could be filled by Jack Leiter, who's currently in Triple-A Rotowire.com 15 minutes ago

  • Jake McCarthy not in Diamondbacks lineup on Friday
Jake McCarthy is not in the Diamondbacks’ starting lineup for Friday evening’s matchup against the Padres.

Advice: It looks to be nothing more than a day of rest for the 26-year-old outfielder, who has been functioning as the team’s regular leadoff hitter against right-handed pitching. Pavin Smith will start in his place and bat atop the D’Backs’ lineup on Friday night against Dylan Cease and the Padres. Rotoworld 17 minutes ago

  • Lands on injured list
The Twins placed Buxton on the 10-day injured list Friday with right knee inflammation, Betsy Helfand of the St. Paul Pioneer Press reports.

Advice: The MRI on his right knee didn't show any structural damage, and GM Derek Falvey indicated Buxton may only require a minimum-length stay on the injured list. However, given the 30-year-old's injury history, there's hardly a guarantee this absence is a brief one. Austin Martin is joining the Twins in a corresponding move. Rotowire.com 19 minutes ago

  • Cleared to throw
Beck (arm) has been cleared to begin a throwing program, Shayna Rubin of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.

Advice: Beck had surgery back in early March to address an aneurysm in his upper right arm. He is facing a slow build-up, with a return not expected until after the All-Star break. Rotowire.com 21 minutes ago

  • Joey Wimer leaves game with apparent knee injury
Joey Wiemer was removed from Friday afternoon’s contest against the Cubs after suffering an apparent knee injury in the ninth inning.

Advice: Wiemer was fielding a ball off the bat of Nico Hoerner in the eighth inning when it appeared as though his cleat got caught in the grass, causing his knee to buckle. He was able to walk off the field under his own power, though he was hobbling quite a bit. He’ll head for further testing. Rotoworld 21 minutes ago
