      Advice: Diaz threw 21 pitches during his mound session, and manager Carlos Mendoza said afterward that there is a good chance the 30-year-old reliever begins a rehab assignment in the minors Thursday. It's unclear how many minor-league reps the Mets will give their star closer, but the fact Diaz is already able to begin an assignment likely signals that he will only require a minimum-length stint on the IL.       Edwin Díaz (shoulder) will begin a minor league rehab assignment on Thursday.

      Advice: Díaz threw a bullpen session on Tuesday without any issues and the Mets are hoping to have one of their primary closing options back on June 11, when first eligible to return. The electrifying 30-year-old righty hit the injured list back in late May with a right shoulder impingement. There’s also a chance they could wait one more day if they feel the outfielder needs a little more time, but either way, the activation is close. It’d be a significant return for the Red Sox, especially after Wilyer Abreu was placed on the injured list with his ankle sprain.
