• Suffers first loss Wednesday
Wesneski (2-1) allowed three runs on seven hits across six innings to take the loss Wednesday against the Padres. He walked one and struck out three.

Advice: Wesneski pitched well enough, logging his second straight quality start in the process, but he got no run support in the 3-0 loss. The righty now has a strong 1.59 ERA overall, though it remains to be seen if he'll stick in the rotation moving forward. Justin Steele (hamstring) just returned from the injured list Monday, and Kyle Hendricks (back) could return in the near future, possibly as soon as May 17 following a rehab start over the weekend. For now, Wesneski is slated to start again Tuesday against Atlanta, but he may shift to a long-relief role after that. Rotowire.com Today, 7:14 pm

  • Gets back in win column
Singer (3-1) earned the win Wednesday against Milwaukee, allowing one run on five hits and two walks over 5.1 innings. He struck out four.

Advice: Singer tallied his first win in five starts, yielding one run for a third consecutive outing. He settled in nicely after allowing doubles to the first two batters he faced, keeping the Brewers off the scoreboard following the first frame. Singer has allowed more than two runs in just one start this season and owns a 2.36 ERA with 46 strikeouts across 45.2 innings. He's lined up for a start in Seattle on Monday. • Michael Kopech closes out Rays to earn third save
Michael Kopech picked up his third save of the season on Wednesday night, working a scoreless ninth inning to protect a three-run lead against the Rays.

Advice: Despite the fact that he allowed a one-out single to Harold Ramirez, Kopech still made it look easy — battling right back to get Isaac Paredes to bounce into a game-ending double play. He needed just 10 pitches (seven strikes) to get the job done. Save chances have been few and far between for the White Sox this season, but Kopech has done a nice job overall with a 3.93 ERA, 1.25 WHIP and a 25/10 K/BB ratio across his 18 1/3 innings while converting three of his first four save chances. • Chris Flexen strikes out eight in win over Rays
Chris Flexen delivered a dominant performance in Wednesday’s victory over the Rays, racking up eight strikeouts over six innings of one-run baseball.

Advice: The 29-year-old right-hander scattered just three hits and one walk on the evening. The only blemish on his day came in the form of an RBI double by Isaac Paredes in the fourth inning. Flexen generated 12 swings and misses on 96 pitches in the ballgame — five on his fastball — while posting a CSW of 30 percent. He now holds a 4.29 ERA, 1.21 WHIP and a 25/13 K/BB ratio over 35 2/3 innings in eight appearances (six starts) on the season. He’s likely to take on the Nationals his next time out on Monday. • Aaron Civale bounced in fifth inning of loss
Aaron Civale was dealt his third loss of the season on Wednesday, giving up two runs on five hits over his 4 2/3 innings of work.

Advice: The 28-year-old right-hander struck out four batters on the night while issuing a pair of walks. All of the damage done against him came on one swing of the bat by Paul DeJong in his final inning of work. Civale got nine swings and misses on 82 pitches on the night, posting a CSW of 28 percent. He’ll look to bounce back as he brings a disappointing 5.88 ERA, 1.35 WHIP and a 43/12 K/BB ratio (41 1/3 innings) into Tuesday’s matchup against the Red Sox in Boston. Rotoworld Today, 7:07 pm

  • Sale dominates former team Wednesday
Chris Sale was utterly dominant with six shutout innings and 10 strikeouts and picked up the win in the 5-0 victory over the Red Sox on Wednesday.

Advice: Sale lowered his ERA on the season to 2.95 with the excellent outing. He certainly showed the Red Sox what they’re missing after trading him last offseason. The win was Sale’s fifth in seven starts this season. His 52 strikeouts are in the top 10 among qualified starting pitchers. Sale is set to take on the Chicago Cubs at home next week. • Gavin Stone quiets Marlins to collect third win
Gavin Stone yielded one run over seven innings on Wednesday in a win over the Marlins.

Advice: Stone was excellent during Wednesday afternoon’s matinee at Dodger Stadium, limiting Miami’s floundering lineup to just a fourth-inning solo shot from Bryan De La Cruz over seven frames. He finished with four strikeouts and didn’t hand out a free pass. The 25-year-old former top pitching prospect has held his own this season in his first extended chance in the big leagues, compiling a respectable 3.55 ERA, 1.26 WHIP and 27/13 K/BB ratio across 38 innings (seven starts). He’ll face the division-rival Giants on Tuesday his next time out. Rotoworld Today, 2:32 pm

  • Ryan Weathers coughs up three runs in loss
Ryan Weathers surrendered three runs over six innings on Wednesday in a loss to the Dodgers.

Advice: Weathers was unable to solve lefty-masher Teoscar Hernández, who delivered a run-scoring single before tagging him for a two-run shot with two outs in the sixth inning. He finished with three strikeouts and only issued one walk. He’ll carry a serviceable 4.54 ERA, 1.32 WHIP and 34/16 K/BB ratio across 41 2/3 innings (eight starts) into a road outing on Tuesday against the Tigers. Rotoworld Today, 2:32 pm

  • Dylan Cease hurls 12-strikeout gem versus Cubs
Dylan Cease recorded a season-high 12 strikeouts over seven shutout innings on Wednesday in a win over the Cubs.

Advice: Cease was simply magnificent during Wednesday afternoon’s matinee at Wrigley Field, inducing a surreal 24 swinging strikes, including 12 on his slider alone, and finished with an elite 39 percent CSW. He limited Chicago’s formidable offense to just three baserunners, one hit and a pair of walks, over seven nearly-flawless frames. His 12 strikeouts were just one shy of his previous career-high mark set back on June 26, 2022. The 28-year-old fantasy ace has been outstanding in his San Diego debut, allowing two earned runs or fewer in seven of his eight starts. He’ll bring a stellar 2.19 ERA, 0.75 WHIP and 60/16 K/BB ratio across 49 1/3 innings (eight starts) into a tasty home matchup on Tuesday against the Rockies at Petco Park. Rotoworld Today, 2:16 pm
