  • Votto to serve one-game suspension Tuesday
Joey Votto will serve a one-game suspension on Tuesday.

Advice: The suspension stems from his actions from Saturday's game against the Padres, when he was ejected following a heated argument over a check-swing call. He was originally suspended for two games before the punishment was negotiated down to one game. NBCSportsEDGE.com 22 minutes ago

  • White Sox call up OF Gonzalez
White Sox recalled OF Luis Gonzalez from Triple-A Charlotte.

Advice: He'll replace the injured Adam Engel (hamstring) on the active roster. Gonzalez, 25, has had a cup of coffee with the White Sox over the past two seasons and has hit .195/.302/.341 with three homers and five steals over 24 games with Triple-A Charlotte this year. He's a pretty well regarded prospect, but making contact has been an issue for him so far this season. NBCSportsEDGE.com 28 minutes ago

  • White Sox place OF Engel on 10-day IL
White Sox placed OF Adam Engel on the 10-day injured list, retroactive to June 20, with a strained right hamstring.

Advice: Engel didn't make his season debut until earlier this month due to a lingering hamstring issue, so this is troubling news. The White Sox have called up outfielder Luis González to take his place on the active roster. NBCSportsEDGE.com 55 minutes ago

  • Betances (shoulder) moving rehab up to Triple-A
Dellin Betances (shoulder) will move his rehab assignment up to Triple-A Syracuse.

Advice: Betances had two scoreless appearances in his three outings with Class A St. Lucie, though the bad one (5 ER with two walks in one-third of an inning) was particularly ugly. He's reportedly topped out around 94 mph. With Jeurys Familia and Robert Gsellman on the injured list, it's likely we'll see Betances again, though he's yet to show that he can succeed with diminished stuff. • Sonny Gray (shoulder) to make rehab start Thu.
Sonny Gray (shoulder) will make a minor league rehab start Thursday with Triple-A Louisville.

Advice: Gray went down with a right groin strain two weeks ago, but he's ready to return to game action. If all goes well, he could rejoin the Reds' rotation this weekend against the Braves. NBCSportsEDGE.com Today, 8:53 am

  • Twins call up OF Celestino
Twins recalled OF Gilberto Celestino from Triple-A St. Paul.

Advice: The 22-year-old hit .125/.152/.250 with one home run across 33 plate appearances prior to being sent down a couple of days ago, but he's back with Byron Buxton (hand) returning to the injured list. Celestino is starting in center field on Tuesday and could be worth a look in AL-only fantasy leagues. NBCSportsEDGE.com Today, 8:52 am

  • Twins place Byron Buxton (hand) on injured list
Twins placed OF Byron Buxton on the 10-day injured list with a boxer's fracture of his left hand.

Advice: Gilberto Celestino will take his spot on the active roster and start in center field on Tuesday. Buxton suffered the injury when he was hit in the hand by a pitch during Monday's game. It's just rotten luck considering he just made his return from the injured list. He has shown signs of being an elite player when healthy this season, so this is just sad for baseball in general. There's no clear timetable on how much time Buxton might miss. NBCSportsEDGE.com Today, 8:47 am

  • Hoffman (shoulder) cleared for rehab assignment
Jeff Hoffman (shoulder) has been cleared to begin a minor league rehab assignment with Triple-A Louisville.

Advice: Hoffman has been out for about a month with a right shoulder impingement. He'll likely need a couple of outings before making his return to the Reds. The 28-year-old holds a 4.61 ERA, 1.59 WHIP, and 39/27 K/BB ratio through 41 innings (10 starts) this season. NBCSportsEDGE.com Today, 8:44 am

  • Cards DFA Bernardo Flores
Cardinals designated LHP Bernardo Flores Jr. for assignment.

Advice: The move makes room for the newly-added Lars Nootbaar on the 40-man roster. Flores has made one appearance with the Cardinals this season, allowing one run on one hit and two walks while failing to retire a batter. NBCSportsEDGE.com Today, 8:34 am
  • Cards option Thomas to Triple-A
Cardinals optioned OF Lane Thomas to Triple-A Louisville.

Advice: Lars Nootbaar will take his place on the active roster. Thomas has hit just .104/.259/.125 over 58 plate appearances with the Cardinals this season. NBCSportsEDGE.com Today, 8:29 am

  • Reds option OF Heineman to Triple-A
Reds optioned OF Scott Heineman to Triple-A Louisville.

Advice: The move clears the way for Tejay Antone's return from the injured list. Heineman is 2-for-26 with a couple of homers during his time with the Reds this year. NBCSportsEDGE.com Today, 8:19 am
  • Reds activate RHP Antone from injured list
Reds activated RHP Tejay Antone from the 10-day injured list.

Advice: Antone went down a couple of weeks ago due to right forearm inflammation, but he made it through a couple of bullpen sessions without any issues. He returns to a brilliant 1.41 ERA with three saves and a 40/11 K/BB ratio over 32 innings. NBCSportsEDGE.com Today, 7:30 am

  • Anderson (knee) likely headed for injured list
Brett Anderson (knee) is likely headed for the injured list.

Advice: Anderson suffered a bone bruise in his right knee when he hit into a double play during Monday's game. He left in the second inning and the Brewers had to rely heavily on their bullpen, so look for some fresh arms to be added Tuesday. NBCSportsEDGE.com Today, 7:19 am

  • Marlins outright INF Marrero to Triple-A
Marlins sent INF Deven Marrero outright to Triple-A New Orleans.

Advice: Marrero cleared waivers after being designated for assignment late last week. The 30-year-old has appeared in one game with the Marlins this season and is hitting .253/.330/.398 with three homers over 25 games at Triple-A. NBCSportsEDGE.com Today, 6:14 am

  • Urias struggles, goes just four in loss to Padres
Julio Urias gave up six runs over four-plus innings Monday in a loss to the Padres.

Advice: Urias has mostly been solid -- solid is probably an understatement -- in 2021, but didn't have it early on against the Padres in the loss. The left-hander allowed a three-run homer to Manny Machado in the first along with another run, and while he settled down over the next few innings, he also gave up a two-run shot to Jake Cronenworth in the fifth. The poor start sees his ERA bump up nearly a half run; going from 3.54 to 3.99 in the process. The 24-year-old will have a chance to bounce back over the weekend against the Cubs.  NBCSportsEDGE.com Yesterday, 10:50 pm

  • Byron Buxton diagnosed with fractured hand
Byron Buxton has been diagnosed with a boxer's fracture of his left hand.

Advice: He suffered the injury when he was hit by a pitch during Monday's game. Buxton just returned from a more than six-week absence due to a hip injury and is now headed back to the injured list with a new ailment. Just brutal. NBCSportsEDGE.com Yesterday, 10:20 pm

Byron Buxton was removed from Monday's game against the Reds after being hit in the left hand by a pitch.

  • Brett Anderson pulled with knee injury
Brett Anderson was pulled from Monday's start against the Diamondbacks due to right knee discomfort.

Advice: Anderson made it through just 1 1/3 innings and 31 pitches before being lifted. The southpaw allowed two runs on five hits before exiting. The Brewers should have more information on Anderson's status after the game. NBCSportsEDGE.com Yesterday, 7:23 pm

  • Byron Buxton slugs two-run homer vs. Rangers
Byron Buxton went 2-for-5 with a two-run homer on Sunday, powering the Twins to a three-game sweep against the Rangers with a 4-2 victory in the series finale.

Advice: Buxton set the tone with a towering 426-foot two-run shot to left field off righty Dane Dunning in the opening frame. It was his 10th long ball of the season and first time he's gone deep since being activated from the injured list earlier this weekend. The dynamic 27-year-old outfielder has been an elite five-category fantasy contributor, slashing .366/.402/.772 with 21 runs scored, 10 homers, 19 RBI and five steals in 107 plate appearances. Joey Votto has been ejected from Saturday's game against the Padres.

Advice: Votto was steaming mad and had to be restrained before the exit, and Reds manager David Bell was also ejected from the contest. It's the 14th ejection of Votto's career.  NBCSportsEDGE.com Saturday, 4:32 pm

  • Antone (forearm) likely to be activated on Tuesday
TeJay Antone is likely to come off the injured list on Tuesday.

Advice: This according to Reds manager David Bell. Antone has been on the injured list since the middle of June due to inflammation in his right forearm. He's been one of the best relievers in baseball thus far with a 1.41 ERA, 40/11 K/BB ratio and 0.719 WHIP over 32 relief innings, and will be a most welcome return for the Reds -- and some fantasy managers -- at some point next week.  NBCSportsEDGE.com Saturday, 1:26 pm

  • Byron Buxton hitting second in return to lineup
Byron Buxton is hitting second and playing centerfield against the Rangers on Saturday.

Advice: Buxton is back in the lineup for the first time since he missed just over six weeks with his Grade 2 hip strain. He was dominant before the injury; hitting .370/.408/.722 over his 98 plate appearances. Fantasy managers should be thrilled to see him back. Advice: He's back. Buxton wound up missing just over six weeks due to a Grade 2 hip strain. He's back in the Twins' lineup, starting in center field and hitting second on Saturday afternoon against the Rangers. The electrifying 27-year-old outfielder looked like a potential AL MVP candidate prior to the injury, hitting .370/.408/.772 with 19 runs scored, nine home runs, 17 RBI and five stolen bases across 98 plate appearances this season. • Marlins designate Deven Marrero for assignment
Marlins designated INF Deven Marrero for assignment.

Advice: Marrero appeared in just one game for the Marlins after being summoned from Triple-A Jacksonville earlier this week. The 30-year-old veteran journeyman could elect to remain with the organization if he manages to clear waivers. NBCSportsEDGE.com Saturday, 10:01 am

  • Sonny Gray (groin) throws bullpen session Friday
Sonny Gray (groin) told reporters Friday that he "felt good" after throwing a bullpen session.

Advice: It was the first bullpen session for Gray since he sustained a right groin strain earlier this month. The 31-year-old right-hander is expected to re-join the Reds' starting rotation next weekend against the Braves at home. NBCSportsEDGE.com Saturday, 6:23 am

  • Twins option Gilberto Celestino to Triple-A
Twins optioned OF Gilberto Celestino to Triple-A St. Paul.

Advice: Celestino headed back to the minors on Friday evening when starting right fielder Max Kepler came off the injured list. The 22-year-old outfielder hit .125/.152/.250 with one home run across 33 plate appearances at the major-league level. NBCSportsEDGE.com Saturday, 4:58 am

  • Buxton (hip) yet to resume his rehab assignment
Byron Buxton (hip) has yet to resume his minor league rehab assignment.

Advice: There was some hope that Buxton might be able to get back into the lineup for the Triple-A St. Paul Saints on Wednesday after doing side workouts on Monday and Tuesday, but this saga continues. "Mentally, he's at the point where he just wants to play regardless of how he feels," Twins manager Rocco Baldelli told reporters late Wednesday night. "But he'll play when he's able to sprint ... to run hard. ... He's just not at that point yet." Buxton has been on the injured list since early May because of a Grade 2 right hip strain. • Reds' Sonny Gray (groin) at least 10 days away
Sonny Gray (groin) is expected to miss at least two more turns in the Reds' rotation.

Advice: Gray hit the injured list last week because of a right groin strain and has yet to resume working off a mound, though the 31-year-old starter is not in full-on shutdown mode. "[His return] might be 10 days away, right in that range," manager David Bell said Wednesday. "We'll know more this weekend. He's going to throw a side and we'll see where we are. It could be quicker than that, but that's my best guess." NBCSportsEDGE.com Wednesday, 12:06 pm

  • Antone (forearm) could return to Reds this weekend
Tejay Antone (forearm) could return to the Reds sometime this weekend.

Advice: Antone traveled with the team to Milwaukee and has been throwing before games without any apparent issues. He'll also go to San Diego, where the Reds are set to begin a four-game series on Thursday. The 27-year-old had posted a stellar 1.41 ERA, 0.719 WHIP, and 40/11 K/BB ratio in 32 innings of relief this season for Cincinnati before landing on the injured list retroactive to June 8 due to forearm inflammation. • Betances (shoulder) allows five runs in Low-A ball
Dellin Betances (shoulder) was charged with five runs while recording only one out in a rehab appearance Wednesday with Low-A St. Lucie.

Advice: Betances tossed a scoreless inning in his rehab debut with St. Lucie on Sunday, but the wheels really fell off in this one, which was his second rehab appearance. The veteran reliever is currently on the 60-day injured list for the Mets after being diagnosed with a right shoulder impingement back in early April. NBCSportsEDGE.com Wednesday, 11:48 am

  • Hoffman (shoulder) set for rehab game next week
Jeff Hoffman (shoulder) is set to begin a minor. league rehab assignment next week with Triple-A Louisville.

Advice: Hoffman has been on the injured list since May 27 due to a right shoulder impingement, so he might need more than one rehab outing to build his arm back up. The 28-year-old had registered a 4.61 ERA, 1.59 WHIP, and 39/27 K/BB ratio through 41 innings (10 starts) this season for Cincinnati before suffering that injury. NBCSportsEDGE.com Wednesday, 9:10 am

  • Marlins purchase contract of INF Deven Marrero
Marlins purchased the contract of INF Deven Marrero from Triple-A Jacksonville.

Advice: Marrero will start at third base and bat eighth for Miami on Wednesday afternoon against the Cardinals. It's his first game at the MLB level since August 2019. The 30-year-old former first-round pick of the Red Sox was batting .253/.330/.398 with three home runs in 25 games (96 plate appearances) this season at Triple-A. • Julio Urías whiffs five in no-decision Tuesday
Julio Urías yielded three runs (two earned) over 5 2/3 innings on Tuesday in a no-decision against the Phillies.

Advice: Urías surrendered only six hits, including a solo homer to Andrew McCutchen in the second inning. He struck out five batters and issued a pair of walks. He also helped his own cause with an RBI double to right field in the fourth inning. He'll carry a 3.54 ERA, 1.00 WHIP and 90/13 K/BB ratio across 84 innings (14 starts) into a challenging road tilt against the Padres on Monday. NBCSportsEDGE.com Tuesday, 11:19 pm

  • Anderson brilliant over seven in Brewers' loss
Brett Anderson worked seven shutout innings in the Brewers' loss to the Reds on Tuesday.

Advice: Anderson was terrific, yielding only one hit and one walk while striking out nine, but Reds starter Luis Castillo matched him with seven shutout frames of his own and Cincinnati pulled out a 2-1 victory in extras. The brilliant outing dropped Anderson's season ERA from 4.99 to 4.24. He gets the Diamondbacks at Chase Field next. NBCSportsEDGE.com Tuesday, 8:48 pm

  • Adam Engel hits third homer Tuesday
Adam Engel launched a solo homer Tuesday as the White Sox beat the Rays.

Advice: The White Sox were happy to welcome Engel's glove back in center field, but they probably weren't counting on him providing power upon his return from the injured list. That's what's happened, though, as Engel has now gone deep in three of his last four games. He was even up in the No. 2 spot in the White Sox' lineup Tuesday. That surely won't continue once Yoan Moncada (illness) is back, though. NBCSportsEDGE.com Tuesday, 8:31 pm

  • Reds' Votto hits eighth home run
Joey Votto went 2-for-4 with a homer, three RBI and a walk versus the Brewers in Monday's rout.

Advice: After going 0-for-5 in his first two games off the IL, Votto has three homers and four singles in his last five games. Facing some rather poor pitching has helped, but he's locked in right now. NBCSportsEDGE.com Monday, 8:46 pm

Byron Buxton is still battling some residual soreness in his right hip after playing three rehab games.

Advice: The Twins don't seem overly concerned, but it's why Buxton has not been activated yet. Instead, he will go through a workout Monday and Tuesday before being re-evaluated. "Once we do that, we can get a pretty good idea of really where he’s at and if he can cut it loose or get close to really cutting it loose at that point," manager Rocco Baldelli said. • Betances (shoulder) throws scoreless rehab inning
Dellin Betances (shoulder) threw a scoreless inning Sunday in his first rehab appearance with Low-A St. Lucie.

Advice: Betances struck out two and walked one while reportedly topping out at 94 mph. It was his first appearance since going down with a right shoulder impingement following his season debut in early April. The Mets have been pleased with how he's strengthened his shoulder during this downtime, but it remains to be seen if he can be successful with lesser stuff. Until now, it just hasn't happened. He's making $6 million this year, so the Mets are giving him every chance to prove it. NBCSportsEDGE.com Jun 14, 6:07 am
