  • Votto homers twice to lead Reds past Pirates
Joey Votto went 3-for-3 with two homers and two walks to lead the Reds to a 9-5 win over the Pirates on Monday.

Advice: In a 14-for-74 slump over his previous 25 games, Votto opened Sunday on the bench before delivering a pinch-hit homer off Kenley Jansen. Now has has three homers and a single in his last four at-bats, pushing his OPS back up to .948. He'll make some noise in the MVP race if he can help carry the Reds into the postseason over these last two weeks. NBCSportsEDGE.com Yesterday, 10:33 pm

  • Vladimir Gutierrez gets roughed up by Pirates
Vladimir Gutierrez was tagged for five runs in 3 1/3 innings by the Pirates on Monday.

Advice: Yoshi Tsutsugo and Bryan Reynolds hit back-to-back homers off him in the first. Gutierrez has given up 18 earned runs in 18 1/3 innings over his last five starts. The Reds have Tony Santillan, Luis Cessa and Jeff Hoffman capable of going multiple innings out of the pen, so they might want to replace him with bullpen games going forward. • Michael Lorenzen perfect for two innings
Michael Lorenzen threw two hitless innings Monday for a hold against the Pirates.

Advice: Mychal Givens would have gotten the save chance afterwards, but the Reds increased their lead from three runs to four in the bottom of the eighth. Lorenzen is behind Givens in line for saves at the moment, but if the Reds play enough close games, he could steal one or two saves before season's end. NBCSportsEDGE.com Yesterday, 10:26 pm

  • Dillon Peters lasts just three innings in start
Dillon Peters was pulled after giving up four runs in three innings against the Reds on Monday.

Advice: Peters came into this one with a surprising 2.66 ERA in five starts for the Pirates, so he was about due for a bad one. He was able to get through the first and second scoreless before giving up four in the third. The Pirates had seen enough at that point and lifted him for a pinch-hitter in the fourth, even though he had thrown just 64 pitches. NBCSportsEDGE.com Yesterday, 10:24 pm

  • Eugenio Suarez hits 27th home run
Eugenio Suarez went 2-for-5 and hit his 27th homer Monday against the Pirates.

Advice: It's pretty amazing that Suarez has 27 homers after spending the first half as arguably the NL's least valuable player and then fading into a platoon role last month. He's made the most of limited opportunities this month, going 10-for-32 with four homers, two doubles and six walks. The Reds have to be thinking about going back to him as their primary third baseman, particularly since Mike Moustakas is mired in a six-week slump. NBCSportsEDGE.com Yesterday, 10:21 pm

  • Yoshi Tsutsugo homers, knocks in two runs
Yoshi Tsutsugo went 2-for-4 with a homer and two RBI versus the Reds in Monday's loss.

Advice: One imagines the Pirates are going to have some interest in keeping Tsutsugo around next year. He's hit .306/.394/.682 with eight homers in 99 plate appearances since being picked up from the scrap heap.  NBCSportsEDGE.com Yesterday, 10:17 pm

  • Mejia charged for six in loss to Braves
Humberto Mejia was charged for six runs in just four innings in a loss on Monday to the Braves.

Advice: Mejia got of to a decent start with two scoreless frames, but then allowed two in the third with four more being charged to him in the fifth without getting an out. He allowed eight hits with two walks, and struck out four while throwing 94 pitches -- 60 of them for strikes. Even if Arizona wasn't terrible Mejia wouldn't be a good streaming option, but that doesn't help. Stay far away from his scheduled start against the Dodgers on Sunday.  NBCSportsEDGE.com Yesterday, 10:15 pm
  • Ynoa goes four, gives up three vs. D-Backs
Huascar Ynoa gave up three runs over four innings in a no-decision against the Diamondbacks on Monday.

Advice: Ynoa allowed five hits, and he walked two with a pair of strikeouts. The right-hander gave up all three runs in the third; two on a double by Ketel Marte, and another on a wild pitch. Ynoa has shown some decent stuff and has a 3.43 ERA on the season, but he's not getting very deep into games; particularly since he came off the injured list. The 23-year-old is a volatile option for Saturday's start against the Padres.  NBCSportsEDGE.com Yesterday, 10:15 pm
  • Duvall up to 37 homers after blast vs. D-Backs
Adam Duvall swatted a two-run homer in a blowout win over the Diamondbacks on Monday.

Advice: Duvall absolutely obliterated a baseball in the fifth inning, as it traveled an estimated 483 feet in the fifth inning to give the Braves a 7-3 lead. That's the 37th homer of the season, and as pointed out by Matt Snyder of CBS, Duvall has a chance to be the first player ever to hit 40 homers, drive in 100 runs (107) and post an on-base percentage below .300 (.287). If that doesn't help explain the strengths and flaws of Duvall, nothing will.  NBCSportsEDGE.com Yesterday, 10:14 pm

  • Gary Sanchez hits 22nd homer in Yankees' win
Gary Sanchez hit his 22nd homer in the Yankees' 4-3 victory over the Rangers on Monday.

Advice: Sanchez's batting average has been sinking, but he has hit five homers in his last 12 starts. Tonight's homer was actually his first in a game the Yankees won since July 20. NBCSportsEDGE.com Yesterday, 10:14 pm
  • Freeman plates two, goes 3-for-5 in blowout
Freddie Freeman went 3-for-5 with two RBI on Monday in an easy win over the Diamondbacks.

Advice: Freeman hit one of the Braves' seven doubles in this one, and it scored Jorge Soler to tie the game at 3-3. The Braves would go on to score eight more runs compared to Arizona scoring just one more. Freeman isn't going to win a second straight MVP, but he has hit .300/.390/.510 with 80 RBI and 30 homers. Not too bad for a "down" year, is it?  NBCSportsEDGE.com Yesterday, 10:14 pm
  • Riley picks up three doubles, plates three in rout
Austin Riley went 3-for-5 with three doubles and three runs driven in as the Braves crushed the Diamondbacks 11-4 on Monday.

Advice: Riley and the Braves hit seven doubles and two homers against a pitching staff that is going to be remember as one of the worst of the modern era. That's not to take any credit from them, it just is what it is. Riley gave Atlanta a 2-0 lead in the third with a two-run double, and plated another with a two-bagger in the fifth. No one ever questioned Riley's power, but it's a major surprise to see the 24-year-old hitting .301 to go with his 29 homers and 92 RBI over 539 at-bats.  NBCSportsEDGE.com Yesterday, 10:13 pm

  • Marte doubles thrice but D-Backs crushed by Braves
Ketel Marte doubled thrice in a blowout loss Monday to the Braves.

Advice: The Diamondbacks are awful. Marte is not. He's now hitting .327/.387/.542, and despite his best effort, Arizona is 48-102. Again, Ketel Marte? Good. Diamondbacks? Nope.  NBCSportsEDGE.com Yesterday, 10:12 pm

  • Nestor Cortes strikes out seven Rangers
Nestor Cortes gave up three runs in 4 1/3 innings versus the Rangers on Monday.

Advice: Cortes struck out seven over four scoreless innings to start the game, but the fifth opened with a homer and two doubles. After a liner to center got him the first out of the inning, he was pulled, denying him a chance at a win. Cortes has been excellent since joining the Yankees rotation, but he's just 2-2 in his 12 starts. He has a 2.94 ERA in those games (plus a 2.29 ERA in 19 2/3 innings as a reliever). • Adam Duvall slugs 36th home run to beat Giants
Adam Duvall slugged a go-ahead two-run homer in the seventh inning on Sunday, powering the Braves to victory over the Giants.

Advice: After Max Fried and Anthony DeSclafani carried a scoreless duel into the seventh inning, Duvall finally broke through and crushed a 2-2 offering from DeSclafani for a 421-foot two-run blast. Alright, show of hands, who had Adam Duvall leading the National League in RBI this season? Well, with two weeks to go, his 105 RBI pace all National League hitters -- six clear of Nolan Arenado. He's now slashing .223/.281/.475 with 36 homers, 105 RBI and five stolen bases. NBCSportsEDGE.com Sunday, 4:17 pm

  • Joey Votto delivers pinch-hit homer vs. Dodgers
Joey Votto walloped a pinch-hit solo homer on Sunday in the Reds' loss to the Dodgers.

Advice: Votto came off the bench to golf a solo shot to right field off Dodgers closer Kenley Jansen in the ninth inning. The 38-year-old future Hall of Famer has enjoyed a remarkable second-half resurgence, homering 20 times across 59 games since the All-Star break. NBCSportsEDGE.com Sunday, 1:53 pm

  • Joey Votto out of the Reds lineup Sunday
Joey Votto is out of the Reds lineup on Sunday.

Advice: The 38-year-old will take a seat against Clayton Kershaw. Votto is batting just .213 this season against southpaws with a .375 slugging percentage. Tyler Stephenson will get the start at first on Sunday. NBCSportsEDGE.com Sunday, 6:42 am

  • Joey Votto draws three walks in loss to Dodgers
Joey Votto went 0-for-1 with three walks and a run scored in Saturday's loss to the Dodgers.

Advice: Votto might not have picked up a hit on Saturday, but his was a pesky presence nonetheless. The veteran first baseman drew both of the walks which Max Scherzer doled out on the afternoon and would take one more free pass in the ninth inning against Alex Vesia. He would come around to score on that final walk of the afternoon. Overall this season, Votto is hitting .265/.372/.542 with 30 home runs and 88 RBI in 119 games. NBCSportsEDGE.com Saturday, 2:36 pm

  • Ketel Marte returns to D-backs' lineup Saturday
Ketel Marte is back in the Diamondbacks' lineup for Saturday's matchup against the Astros.

Advice: Marte is back once again at second base and hitting second on Saturday night against Astros righty Lance McCullers Jr. The 27-year-old fantasy stalwart has been one of the bright spots in Arizona, hitting .323/.384/.533 with 46 runs scored, 12 homers, 45 RBI and one stolen base across 315 plate appearances this season. • Adam Duvall has two RBI in Braves' loss to Giants
Adam Duvall went 2-for-4 with a two-run double on Friday in the Braves' extra-inning loss to the Giants.

Advice: Duvall supplied the Braves' lone runs of the early stages of an eventual 11-inning marathon with a two-run double off righty Logan Webb in the opening frame. NBCSportsEDGE.com Saturday, 3:22 am

  • Michael Lorenzen gets save against Dodgers
Despite giving up a run to the Dodgers in the ninth, Michael Lorenzen got his fourth save for the Reds on Friday.

Advice: Mychal Givens had the night off after pitching the previous two days. Lorenzen, on the other hand, worked for the third day in a row for the first time this season. He has a 3.18 ERA in 22 2/3 innings since returning from the IL after the All-Star break, and he could pick up another save or two behind Givens before season's end. NBCSportsEDGE.com Friday, 7:39 pm

  • Huascar Ynoa strikes out eight Rockies
Huascar Ynoa struck out eight while allowing two runs in 4 2/3 innings Wednesday versus the Rockies.

Advice: Unfortunately, Ynoa got wild in the fifth, walking two batters after allowing a pair of singles to start the inning. He was strong otherwise -- those were his only walks of the night -- but the Braves couldn't get much going offensively in what turned out to be a 3-2 loss in 10 innings. Because he just hasn't gotten much run support, Ynoa is 0-3 in six starts since coming off the IL. He's 4-5 with a 3.26 ERA for the year. NBCSportsEDGE.com Wednesday, 10:16 pm
  • Nestor Cortes strikes out 11 in win over Orioles
Nestor Cortes Jr. struck out 11 while holding the Orioles to one run in 6 1/3 innings on Wednesday.

Advice: Cortes left with a one-run lead that didn't hold up, but the Yankees went on win anyway. If the Bombers end up securing a Wild Card berth, Cortes will be a huge part of how it happened. The team is 8-3 in his 11 starts since he joined the rotation at the beginning of July, and he has a 2.60 ERA in 79 2/3 innings. NBCSportsEDGE.com Wednesday, 8:24 pm

  • Yoshi Tsutsugo knocks in two to beat Reds
Yoshi Tsutsugo went 2-for-3 with two RBI and a walk as the Pirates edged the Reds 5-4 on Wednesday.

Advice: Tsutsugo continues to crush it for his new team; he's batting .309/.400/.721 in 80 plate appearances. He's playing regularly between right field and first base, so he has some mixed-league value at the moment. NBCSportsEDGE.com Wednesday, 7:34 pm

  • Vladimir Gutierrez lasts just 3 2/3 innings
Vladimir Gutierrez didn't figure into the decision Wednesday after allowing four runs in 3 2/3 innings against the Pirates.

Advice: Gutierrez allowed five hits, walked three and struck out none, so he was fortunate the damage wasn't worse. The Reds have now lost each of his last four starts, with Gutierrez giving up 13 earned runs in 15 innings during that span. He's going to be on a short leash the rest of the way. NBCSportsEDGE.com Wednesday, 7:21 pm
  • Marte has three hits, hits three-run homer
Ketel Marte went 3-for-4 with a three-run homer on Tuesday in a loss to the Dodgers.

Advice: Marte started at second base on Tuesday, his sixth time at the position this year. He clobbered his 12th homer of the year with a three-run shot off Justin Bruehl, and it turned a 6-1 deficit into a 6-4 contest. The Diamondbacks are awful, but Marte can't be faulted for it. He's now slashing .325/.383/.537 in his 75 games.  NBCSportsEDGE.com Tuesday, 10:29 pm

  • Adam Duvall homers, pushes RBI total to 101
Adam Duvall cranked his 35th home run of the season Tuesday as the Braves fell to the Rockies.

Advice: Duvall's 425-foot two-run blast off of Jhoulys Chacin in the eighth inning cut the Rockies' lead to one, but that's as close as the Braves would get. The two RBI push his season total to 101, which leads the National League. It's the second time -- first since 2016 -- he's driven in 100 runs in a season. NBCSportsEDGE.com Tuesday, 7:57 pm

  • Dillon Peters goes five scoreless for victory
Dillon Peters shut out the Reds for five innings on Tuesday to win for the first time since 2019.

Advice: Peters had been 0-2 despite a 3.38 ERA in four starts for the Pirates. The 28-year-old struck out five and walked one tonight to lower his ERA to 2.66. It's just five outings, but he's making a nice case to stick on the Pirates' 40-man roster this winter. NBCSportsEDGE.com Tuesday, 7:00 pm

  • Gary Sanchez not in NYY lineup on Tuesday night
Gary Sanchez is not in the Yankees' starting lineup on Tuesday.

  • Ketel Marte starting at second base on Tuesday
Ketel Marte will start at second base Tuesday against the Dodgers.

Advice: It will be his first start and sixth appearance at second base all season. Fantasy managers watching his position eligibility will want to track this one. David Peralta, Jake McCarthy, and Pavin Smith will start across the outfield on Tuesday.  NBCSportsEDGE.com Tuesday, 12:06 pm

  • Ketel Marte goes deep in victory over Mariners
Ketel Marte swatted his 11th home run of the season on Sunday, helping to propel the Diamondbacks to victory over the Mariners.

Advice: Marte smacked his one-out solo shot off of Erik Swanson in the seventh inning, extending the Diamondbacks lead to 5-2. It wound up being the difference in the ballgame. With his 1-for-4 afternoon, the hot-hitting center fielder is now slashing .320/.380/.524 with 11 homers and 42 RBI in 73 games on the season. . NBCSportsEDGE.com Sep 12, 4:36 pm

  • Freddie Freeman swats 30th homer, Braves top Fish
Freddie Freeman belted his 30th home run of the season on Sunday, lifting the Braves to a 5-3 victory over the Marlins in the finale of a three-game series at Truist Park in Atlanta.

Advice: Freeman clubbed a no-doubter to left field off righty reliever Anthony Bass in the seventh inning, giving the Braves a two-run lead which they wouldn't relinquish. The 32-year-old impending free agent slugger has gone deep twice in his last four games. He's hitting .295/.390/.509 with 107 runs scored, 30 homers, 77 RBI and eight stolen bases across 618 plate appearances. NBCSportsEDGE.com Sep 12, 2:15 pm
  • Freddie Freeman plates two runs in loss to Marlins
Freddie Freeman went 2-for-5 and drove in a pair of runs on Saturday night as the Braves fell to the Marlins.

Advice: Freeman chipped in an RBI single during the Braves three-run uprising against Elieser Hernandez in the fifth inning. He then blooped a run-scoring single into right field off of Dylan Floro in the ninth to trim their deficit to two runs, but that would be as close as they would get. The All-Star slugger is now hitting .295/.389/.506 with 29 homers and 76 RBI on the season. NBCSportsEDGE.com Sep 11, 7:54 pm
