    • Brendan Donovan scratched Friday with stiff neck
Brendan Donovan was scratched from the Cardinals’ starting lineup on Friday due to neck stiffness.

Advice: The 27-year-old infielder is considered day-to-day for the time being. Dylan Carlson will take his place in the Cardinals’ lineup and will bat eighth against Aaron Nola and the Phillies while Matt Carpenter slides up to the leadoff spot in the team’s batting order. • Astros don’t provide update on Cristian Javier
Astros’ manager Joe Espada did not give an update on right-handers Cristian Javier and Jose Urquidy on Friday, aside from saying that he’s giving both pitchers space while they are awaiting second opinions.

Advice: If that’s not discouraging enough, Espada also refused to comment when asked if the pitchers’ UCL’s were intact. Lovely. The Astros should provide full updates on the status of both hurlers in the coming days once they get their second opinions, but it doesn’t sound good. Rotoworld Yesterday, 2:16 pm

    • Getting breather Thursday
Rizzo isn't in the Yankees' lineup for Thursday's game against the Angels.

Advice: Rizzo owns a .351 OPS across his past six games, so the Yankees will give him a rare day off Thursday so he can clear his head. DJ LeMahieu will shift to first base while Oswaldo Cabrera starts at the hot corner, batting ninth. Rotowire.com Thursday, 3:26 pm
    • Nursing sore lat
Raley is absent from the Mariners' lineup Thursday due to a sore lat, Ryan Divish of The Seattle Times reports.

Advice: It offers an explanation as to why Raley was not starting against the Astros even with a right-hander on the mound. The hope seems to be that it will be only a brief absence, so consider Raley day-to-day for the time being. Seattle has Dominic Canzone in left field and Mitch Haniger in right Thursday versus Houston. Rotowire.com Thursday, 11:32 am

    • Swats homer Wednesday
Verdugo went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Wednesday's 2-1 victory against the Angels.

Advice: Verdugo's fourth-inning solo shot equaled the margin of victory in the pitching-dominated matchup. The long ball was his eighth of the season, putting Verdugo well on pace to surpass the career-best mark of 13 homers that he's reached two separate seasons. In his first campaign as a Yankee, Verdugo has added 29 RBI, 27 runs, a stolen base and a .260/.321/.439 slash line through 221 plate appearances. Rotowire.com Thursday, 11:06 am

    • Luke Raley out Thursday with lat soreness
Luke Raley is not in the lineup for Thursday’s showdown against the Astros due to lat soreness.

Advice: The Mariners want to give Raley a chance to rest, so he’ll take a seat with Mitch Garver at DH and Mitch Haniger sliding to right field. Raley started the month hot, but he’s now gone 1-for-21 over his last seven games. Hopefully, the lat is the main reason behind the mini-slump, so a night or two off will allow him to get back on track. Rotoworld Thursday, 10:41 am

    • Not among starting nine
Raley is absent from the lineup for Thursday's game against the Astros.

Advice: It's the first time since May 7 that Raley wasn't in the lineup when the Mariners were facing a right-hander. Seattle is going with Dominic Canzone and Mitch Haniger as its corner outfield duo against Spencer Arrighetti. Rotowire.com Thursday, 10:07 am

    • Starting to heat up
Donovan went 3-for-4 with a double and a hit-by-pitch in Wednesday's 5-3 win over the Reds.

Advice: This was Donovan's third multi-hit effort in the last five games. He's now gone 17-for-49 (.347) over his last 13 contests, though he has zero home runs and six doubles in that span. The 27-year-old is up to a .245/.326/.382 slash line with four homers, 25 RBI, 26 runs scored, 14 doubles, one triple and no stolen bases over 233 plate appearances this season. Donovan's lack of steals and mediocre sprint speed -- in the 42nd percentile, per Statcast -- makes him an odd fit for the leadoff role, but that's where he's hit for most of the campaign. Masyn Winn has also seen time at leadoff versus left-handed pitchers recently, but Donovan remains atop the order versus righties. Rotowire.com Wednesday, 9:28 pm

    • Alex Verdugo homers in win over Angels
Alex Verdugo went 1-for-4 with a solo homer in the Yankees’ 2-1 win over the Angels on Wednesday.

Advice: Despite the Yankees putting five men on base through three frames, they didn’t bring a run in to score until Verdugo’s solo blast off Tyler Anderson to lead off the fourth inning. It was one of only two runs the team would score in Wednesday’s victory. The 28-year-old outfielder is hitting .260/.321/.439 with eight homers and 29 RBI across 221 plate appearances.
