• Yankees sign reliever Tim Hill
    Yankees signed LHP Tim Hill.

Advice: Hill was designated for assignment by the White Sox last Wednesday and was subsequently released after posting a 5.87 ERA, 2.22 WHIP, and 13/10 K/BB ratio across 23 innings (27 appearances) this season with the White Sox. The Yankees bullpen is banged up right now, so Hill will be a welcome addition as a healthy arm. Rotoworld 24 minutes ago

  • Departs 40-man roster
The Yankees designated Andrews for assignment Thursday.

Advice: The transaction frees up a spot on the 40-man roster for the addition of Tim Hill, who has been signed to a big-league contract. Andrews has allowed 11 earned runs in just 3.2 frames during his brief time in the majors. Rotowire.com 27 minutes ago

  • Picks up third win
Beeks (3-3) threw a scoreless ninth inning while allowing one hit and striking out one to earn the win Wednesday against the Dodgers.

Advice: Beeks entered the game with the score knotted at 6-6. He delivered his sixth consecutive scoreless appearance, and in that span he has three holds and a win. Given the Rockies' struggles to find a reliable closer this season, Beeks may get a second look in the role. Rotowire.com 31 minutes ago

  • Brings it once again
Hudson threw two scoreless innings of relief and picked up his 11th hold of the season in Wednesday's victory over the Angels. He allowed a hit, struck out a batter and walked none.

Advice: Hudson allowed two earned runs in his final appearance of May, but he gave up only two all season prior to that, and he has not allowed even one through 8.0 innings in June. Add it all up and Hudson now owns a minuscule 0.90 to along with a 0.65 WHIP and 46:8 K:BB over 40.0 innings out of Milwaukee's bullpen. Rotowire.com 34 minutes ago
  • Latches on with Yankees
The Yankees signed Hill to a one-year contract Thursday.

Advice: Hill was cut loose by the White Sox earlier this week after collecting a 5.87 ERA and 13:10 K:BB over 23 innings. He wasn't out of a job long, however, and will go directly onto the major-league roster. Hill has had a rough two-year stretch, but he's been an effective reliever in the past and the Yankees will see if the 34-year-old has more in the tank. Rotowire.com 37 minutes ago

  • Third opinion recommends surgery
Gasser is mulling whether to have surgery on his left elbow after a third opinion concurred with the second that an operation is likely needed at some point, Adam McCalvy of MLB.com reports.

Advice: Gasser is dealing with UCL damage in the elbow and the Brewers are leaving the decision of surgery or rest and rehab up to the left-hander. He's been shut down from throwing for nearly three weeks already, so Gasser is facing a lengthy ramp-up even if he opts for the non-surgical route. If he decides to have surgery, Gasser would likely be sidelined for at least a year. Rotowire.com Today, 7:09 am

  • Looking at relief role initially
Junis (shoulder) will be activated from the 60-day injured list this weekend in San Diego but could be used in relief initially, Adam McCalvy of MLB.com reports.

Advice: Officially, the Brewers are saying Junis' role is TBD. However, they've already listed their four probable pitchers for the weekend and his name is not included. Junis could still rejoin the rotation eventually, perhaps as soon as next week, but Carlos F. Rodriguez is getting another start Saturday. The right-handed Junis threw four innings in a simulated game earlier this week, so he's stretched out for a possible long relief appearance this weekend. Rotowire.com Today, 6:43 am

  • Fans seven in no-decision
Corbin came away with a no-decision in Wednesday's 3-1 win over the Diamondbacks, allowing one run on three hits and three walks over five innings. He struck out seven.

Advice: The veteran lefty established a new season high in strikeouts despite tossing only 53 of 90 pitches for strikes, but Corbin left the mound with the Nats in a 1-0 hole before they took the lead for good in the bottom of the sixth inning. He's given up three earned runs or less in four of his last five starts, and while his 4.23 ERA, 1.27 WHIP and 23:11 K:BB through 27.2 innings over that stretch aren't particularly impressive, they represent a big improvement on his season-long numbers. Corbin will look for his first win since May 10 in his next outing, which is scheduled to come on the road early next week in San Diego. Rotowire.com Today, 6:17 am
  • Hit with loss Wednesday
Bivens (1-1) took the loss Wednesday as the Giants were downed 6-5 by the Cubs, giving up three runs (two earned) on five hits and two walks over two-plus innings. He struck out one.

Advice: The Giants went with a true bullpen day Wednesday, as none of the six pitchers they deployed worked more than two innings. Bivens was the one to get tagged with the loss after serving up back-to-back homers to Ian Happ and Dansby Swanson to lead off the fourth inning during a game in which San Francisco never held a lead. Bivens has pitched five innings over two appearances this week in his first taste of big-league action, giving up three homers, and he'll likely be shipped back to Triple-A Sacramento to make way for a fresh arm.
