    • Contreras (forearm) expects to return before July
Willson Contreras told reporters that he expects to return from his forearm injury before July.

Advice: When asked if he could return as a designated hitter instead of a backstop, Contreras answered with a convincing “hell no.” The backstop did say a return against Chicago next week seemed a little fast ,but he does appear like he’ll beat his All-Star game timeline. Contreras wouldn’t offer a progression update, but everything here points to a return at some point in late June. Rotoworld Yesterday, 4:48 pm

    • Goes yard in Thursday's win
Garver went 2-for-2 with a home run, two walks, two RBI and two runs scored in a win over the Athletics on Thursday.

Advice: Garver was a one-man wrecking crew for Seattle, delivering an RBI single in the fourth inning before putting an exclamation point on the M's shutout victory with a ninth-inning solo blast. While Thursday's performance marked the veteran catcher's second two-hit effort and second multi-RBI performance in the last four games, Garver's first two months-plus in Seattle have been highly disappointing -- he's sitting on a .175 batting average and .612 OPS through his first 200 plate appearances, and his 30.5 percent strikeout rate is his highest since he whiffed at a 45.7 percent clip during the COVID-shortened 2020 season. • Willson Contreras continues making rapid progress
Willson Contreras (forearm) progressed to throwing and catching on Thursday at Busch Stadium.

Advice: Contreras is making rapid progress in his recovery from surgery to repair a fractured left forearm and there’s optimism that he’ll be ready to return earlier than originally anticipated. The 32-year-old backstop wasn’t expected back until sometime around the All-Star break, but it’s looking like he could return before the end of the month, barring any setbacks. There should be some clarity on his timeline once he undergoes a CT scan on Friday to determine whether he’ll be cleared to resume hitting. Rotoworld Thursday, 3:15 pm

    • Mitch Garver socks solo homer in win over A’s
Mitch Garver drove in two runs and hit a solo homer in a victory over the Athletics on Thursday.

Advice: Garver also drew two walks. He blooped in a single to score Cal Raleigh in the fourth, and his homer was off a center-cut fastball from T.J. McFarland that extended Seattle’s lead to 3-0. Garver has six homers on the season and has been a significant disappointment with a slash of .175/.285/.327 over the first 60-plus games of 2024. • Doing field work
Contreras (forearm) was throwing, catching and running on the field prior to Thursday's game against the Rockies, John Denton of MLB.com reports.

Advice: Contreras has been participating in all three activities since the Cardinals' last stretch of road games. It's an encouraging sign that the 32-year-old backstop is recovering well from his fractured left forearm, but he still is not expected back until closer to the All-Star break. Until then, Ivan Herrera will continue to serve as St. Louis' primary catcher. Rotowire.com Thursday, 2:38 pm

    • Sitting down Wednesday
Garver isn't in the Mariners' lineup for Wednesday's game against the Athletics.

Advice: Garver appeared to break out of his slump Sunday with a 2-for-4 performance against the Angels, but he will now get a breather following Tuesday's 0-for-3 outing. Mitch Haniger will fill in as Seattle's designated hitter while batting seventh. Rotowire.com Wednesday, 3:26 pm
    • Ends slump Sunday
Garver went 2-for-4 with a three-run double in Sunday's 5-1 win over the Angels.

Advice: Garver entered Sunday 0-for-20 over his last seven games. His last extra-base hit was May 21, and he hadn't knocked in a run since May 17. He was able to put an end to all of those slumps, delivering a big knock in the eighth inning to give the Mariners some breathing room. The 33-year-old has struggled to get anything going at the plate this year, slashing .170/.276/.309 with five home runs, 17 RBI, 18 runs scored and eight doubles over 192 plate appearances as Seattle's primary designated hitter. • Mitch Garver plates three as Mariners top Angels
Mitch Garver went 2-for-4 with a double and three RBI on Sunday afternoon, helping to lead the Mariners to victory over the visiting Angels.

Advice: Garver gave the Mariners quite a bit of breathing room with his bases-clearing three-run double off of Luis Garcia in the eighth inning — increasing the M’s advantage to 5-0. With his two-hit attack, the 33-year-old backstop is now hitting .170/.276/.309 with five homers and 17 RBI on the year. Rotoworld Sunday, 4:43 pm
