• Mets promote LHP Josh Walker from Triple-A
Mets recalled LHP Josh Walker from Triple-A Syracuse.

Advice: The Mets wanted extra bullpen insurance with a long stretch of games coming up, so they optioned Joey Lucchesi, who had just started on Wednesday to bring up Walker. The 29-year-old has thrown three scoreless innings at the big league level so far this year with three strikeouts and one walk. His time in New York doesn’t figure to be long since he will likely be the next man down when the Mets need a starter again. Rotoworld Today, 12:40 pm
  • Summoned to bullpen
The Mets recalled Walker from Triple-A Syracuse on Thursday.

Advice: Walker represents a fresh arm for a bullpen that's been overused recently. The left-hander has made three scoreless appearances during his time with the Mets this season. Rotowire.com Today, 12:35 pm
  • Undergoes Tommy John surgery
Waldichuk underwent Tommy John surgery on his left elbow Wednesday, Martin Gallegos of MLB.com reports.

Advice: Waldichuk was initially diagnosed with a UCL tear last October. He opted for a minor procedure on his elbow last fall in hopes of avoiding the surgery he eventually had Wednesday. The left-hander figures to be sidelined until around midseason of 2025. Rotowire.com Today, 11:59 am

  • Angels trade for Roansy Contreras
Pirates traded RHP Roansy Contreras to the Angels

Advice: Contreras was designated for assignment by the Pirates on Saturday to make room for Paul Skenes. The 24-year-old was moved to the bullpen this season and had posted a 4.41 ERA, 1.65 WHIP, and 16/8 K/BB ratio across 16 1/3 innings. However, Contreras was a top-100 prospect just a couple of years ago, ranking as MLB Pipeline’s 67th overall prospect prior to the 2022 season. Entering 2024, Contreras had a 3.67 ERA in 98 MLB innings with a 9.5 percent walk rate and 21.4 percent strikeout rate while limiting opposing batters to a .225 batting average. However, he had seen a troubling decline in fastball velocity and his command wasn’t good enough to hide his diminishing raw stuff. Still, at just 24 years old, there could easily be a solid MLB pitcher lurking in there somewhere; he just didn’t necessarily land in the best place for that pitcher to be unearthed. • Dealt to Anaheim
The Pirates traded Contreras to the Angels on Thursday in exchange for cash considerations, Alex Stumpf of MLB.com reports.

Advice: Contreras was designated for assignment by Pittsburgh on Saturday after posting a 4.41 ERA and 1.65 WHIP across 16.1 innings. The 24-year-old right-hander will replace Davis Daniel in the Angels' bullpen, though Contreras could also be moved into the starting rotation at some point. Rotowire.com Today, 11:24 am
  • Angels send Davis Daniel to minors
Angels optioned RHP Davis Daniel to Triple-A Salt Lake

Advice: Daniel did not throw an inning during his brief time with the Angels at the MLB level. He will return to a 5.89 ERA, 1.61 WHIP, and a 35/11 K/BB ratio across 36 2/3 innings at Triple-A. Rotoworld Today, 10:40 am
  • Optioned to Salt Lake
The Angels optioned Daniel to Triple-A Salt Lake on Thursday.

Advice: For the second time this season, Daniel will return to the minors after a one-day stint with the Angels without seeing the field. The 26-year-old right-hander owns a 5.89 ERA and 1.63 WHIP across 36.2 innings in Triple-A. Rotowire.com Today, 10:33 am
  • Easton Lucas designated for assignment
Athletics designated LHP Easton Lucas for assignment.

Advice: Lucas was optioned to the minors on Tuesday and now has been designated for assignment to make room for Brandon Bielak on the 40-man roster. The 27-year-old has allowed seven runs (six earned) on eight hits in 3 2/3 MLB innings this year with six strikeouts and three walks. He’s unlikely to be claimed by another team. • A’s acquire Bielak from Astros for cash
Astros traded RHP Brandon Bielak to the Athletics for cash considerations.

Advice: Bielak was designated for assignment last week and will now find a new home in Oakland. It’s a good landing spot for him in terms of innings, and he should help Oakland since he has a solid 4.65 ERA, 1.52 WHIP, and 155/85 K/BB ratio across 191 2/3 innings (70 appearances, 21 starts) since 2020. Given that the Athletic’s rotation is banged up, it might not be a surprise to see them try to stretch Bielak out to start again. However, he remains off the fantasy radar. Rotoworld Today, 9:25 am
