• Snags win in relief
Hjelle (1-1) allowed three hits and struck out one without walking a batter over two scoreless innings to earn the win Friday over the Rockies.

Advice: Hjelle was in the game when the Giants rallied ahead in the fifth inning, and they kept the lead the rest of the way. The right-hander has been decent in May, allowing two runs on 11 hits with a 14:0 K:BB over 10 innings across his last seven appearances. He's at a 2.81 ERA, 1.06 WHIP and 17:1 K:BB through 16 innings this season as a multi-inning relief option for the Giants. Hjelle's also added two holds, but he has little chance of seeing consistent late-inning work. Rotowire.com 15 minutes ago

  • Goes three innings Friday
Black allowed four runs on six hits and struck out two without walking a batter over three innings in a no-decision versus the Rockies on Friday.

Advice: Black was tagged for three runs in the first inning and gave up a solo home run to Jordan Beck in the second. This was Black's shortest of three major-league starts so far, likely due to the poor first run through the lineup. He's now at a 7.71 ERA, 1.97 WHIP and 8:5 K:BB over 11.2 innings. The 24-year-old may have a chance to gain traction in the Giants' rotation while Keaton Winn (forearm) is on the injured list, though it's also possible Black gives way to Blake Snell (thigh) next week given the former's middling results so far for the Giants. • Cole Ragans goes seven scoreless to defeat A’s
Cole Ragans blanked the A’s for seven innings, allowing just two hits, in the Royals’ 6-2 win Friday.

Advice: It’s the first time this year that Ragans has completed seven innings, though it’s the third time he’s pitched at least six scoreless innings. He’s 3-3 with a 3.70 ERA and an excellent 64/19 K/BB in 56 innings. Up next is a home start versus the Tigers. Rotoworld 24 minutes ago

  • Mitch Spence effective for 4 2/3 in first start
Mitch Spence allowed one run in 4 2/3 innings against the Royals in his first big-league start Friday.

Advice: Spence allowed five hits, walked one and struck out four. The Rule 5 pick definitely helped his chances of making more starts with his showing. We wouldn’t trust him in fantasy leagues, but he’s been perfectly solid in amassing a 3.90 ERA and a 26/8 K/BB in 30 innings to date. Rotoworld 24 minutes ago

  • Ryan Feltner surrenders five runs to Giants
Ryan Feltner gave up seven hits and five runs while going four innings against the Giants on Friday.

Advice: Feltner was staked a 3-0 lead after the first inning, but he wasn’t able to hold it. The right-hander walked two with two strikeouts in an ineffective outing; something that has been fairly common for the majority of his starts. He would be a risky streamer next week against Oakland. • Lasts five innings Friday
Montas gave up three runs on four hits and three walks while striking out one over five innings in a no-decision versus the Dodgers on Friday.

Advice: Montas gave up a leadoff blast to Mookie Betts in the first inning and a two-run home run to Shohei Ohtani in the third. The Reds were able to erase that damage after Montas exited, but the Dodgers rallied in the late innings. Given the opponent, this was an acceptable start from the right-hander. He's still at a pedestrian 4.37 ERA, 1.37 WHIP and 25:15 K:BB through 35 innings over eight starts this season. Montas' next start is projected to come at home versus the Padres. • Goes deep again Friday
Ohtani went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run and an additional run scored in Friday's 7-3 win over the Reds.

Advice: Ohtani reclaimed a share of the major-league lead in homers with his 13th long ball of the year, which came off Frankie Montas in the third inning. Over his last 12 games, Ohtani's slugged six homers with 12 RBI and seven multi-hit efforts. He's slashing an electrifying .358/.426/.676 with 32 RBI, 36 runs scored, 11 stolen bases, 16 doubles and a triple through 204 plate appearances while occupying the No. 2 spot in the Dodgers' stacked lineup. • Decent in no-decision
Paxton allowed three runs on seven hits and struck out two without walking a batter over six innings in a no-decision versus the Reds on Friday.

Advice: Paxton did fine, though he gave up solo home runs to Stuart Fairchild and Tyler Stephenson to account for two of the three runs on his line. After posting just one quality start over five outings in April, Paxton has settled in with three in a row to begin May. The southpaw has done well at run prevention this year with a 2.84 ERA despite a 1.38 WHIP and 24:24 K:BB through 44.1 innings over eight starts. He's projected to make his next start at home versus the Diamondbacks. Rotowire.com Today, 9:52 pm

  • Matt Waldron fans career-high 10 in beating Braves
Matt Waldron fanned a career-high 10 and limited the Braves to one run over 5 2/3 innings in the Padres’ 3-1 victory Friday.

Advice: Waldron’s previous high for strikeouts was nine against the Cardinals last September. The win moved him to 2-5 with a 5.00 ERA this season. That he has 45 strikeouts in 45 innings this season is a big improvement over his 31 in 41 1/3 innings last season. Still, he’s probably been a little lucky to give up just six homers in his nine starts, given his flyball tendencies. Rotoworld Today, 9:45 pm
