    Jax earned the save in a win over the White Sox on Thursday, striking out one over two-thirds of an inning.

    Advice: Jax entered the game with one out and a four-run lead in the top of the ninth and got Eloy Jimenez to go down swinging before Robbie Grossman reached on a fielding error in the following at-bat, scoring Nicky Lopez. He then needed just one pitch to retire the final batter via groundout and secure his fourth save of the season. Jax has not allowed a run in either of his last four appearances and had held his opponents hitless in each of his last three, striking out four over that stretch while not issuing any walks.   • Yankees option Cody Morris to Triple-A
    Yankees optioned RHP Cody Morris to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.

    Advice: Morris was called up last Friday, but didn’t end up making an appearance for the Yankees before being shipped back to the minors.     Miller notched a save against the Yankees on Thursday, pitching 1.1 scoreless innings during which he allowed one hit and struck out three batters.

    Advice: Miller continues to flourish in the closer role -- he's a perfect six-for-six in save opportunities so far and hasn't given up a run since his first outing of the campaign. The right-hander's heater is also paying off with big strikeout numbers, as he's racked up an impressive 23 punchouts over 11.1 frames.   • Notches first win of season
    Wood (1-2) earned the win over the Yankees on Thursday, allowing one run on eight hits and two walks while striking out five batters over 5.2 innings.

    Advice: Wood allowed plenty of traffic on the basepaths, but the only run that crossed the plate against him came on a second-inning Jose Trevino solo homer. This was by far the left-hander's best outing in an A's uniform -- he came into the contest holding a 7.89 ERA and 2.03 WHIP while failing to go five innings in three of his five starts. One strong start isn't going to wipe away Wood's poor overall body of work on the campaign, but it at least helped him get into the win column for the first time and provided hope that he could yet turn things around.     Phillips earned a save against the Nationals on Thursday, striking out two batters in a perfect inning of work.

    Advice: Phillips didn't have any trouble protecting Los Angeles' one-run ninth-inning lead, striking out the first two batters he faced before inducing a game-ending groundout. The right-hander has yielded just one earned run over 10.2 innings on the season, giving him a minuscule 0.84 ERA.   • Can't escape third inning Thursday
    Vasquez allowed four runs on six hits and two walks while striking out two batters over 2.2 innings in a no-decision against Colorado on Thursday.

    Advice: Vasquez got another start with Yu Darvish (neck) on the injured list, though he didn't fare well in the Colorado altitude. The Padres staked him to an early 4-1 lead, but the right-hander allowed the Rockies to pull even in the third and was lifted after retiring only two batters in the frame. Vasquez was much better in his first start of the campaign against the Blue Jays on April 20, and Coors Field has a history of demolishing pitcher stat lines, so the right-hander may still get another turn in the rotation if Darvish isn't ready to return when first eligible.     Munoz pitched a perfect ninth inning against the Rangers to earn a save.

    Advice: Munoz picked up his first save since April 6, making quick work of Wyatt Langford, Travis Jankowski and Jonah Heim to close out the Mariners' win.     Heaney (0-3) took the loss Thursday, allowing four runs on five hits and no walks over six innings against the Mariners. He struck out seven.

    Advice: Although Heaney only gave up five hits, three went for extra bases, including two-run home runs to Luis Urias and Ty France. Heaney's now surrendered multiple long balls in back-to-back starts. While Thursday's start marked Heaney's first time pitching into the sixth, he's allowed multiple runs in all but one outing this year.     Lawrence earned a save against the Padres on Thursday, striking out one batter in a perfect inning of work.

    Advice: Lawrence notched his first save of the season Tuesday in his ninth appearance of the campaign, and it didn't take him long to build upon that with another save two days later. After giving up five runs (four earned) in his second outing of the season April 5, the right-hander has yielded just two earned runs over eight outings covering 8.1 frames since. Given that he's logged back-to-back saves for Colorado and has two of the three saves overall on the campaign for the club, Lawrence appears to be strengthening his hold on the team's primary closer role.
