• Swipes 13th bag
Rengifo went 1-for-3 with a run and a stolen base in a 2-1 victory versus the Padres on Monday.

Advice: Offense in the contest was scarce, so Rengifo's role in producing the Angels' first run was especially valuable. He singled with one out in the fourth inning and stole second base before eventually crossing the plate on a Willie Calhoun single. Rengifo missed some time in May due to an illness, but he hasn't slowed down since returning, slashing .313/.353/.484 with two homers, six RBI, 10 runs and four stolen bases in 16 contests. The infielder leads the team and is tied for 12th in the majors with 13 thefts on the campaign. Rotowire.com 10 minutes ago

  • Report: Marlins to DFA Avisail Garcia
Craig Mish of Sportsgrid reports that the Marlins will designate outfielder Avisail Garcia for assignment.

Advice: That means the Marlins will ended up eating the remaining salary of his 2024 season along with $12 million in 2025 and another $5 million for his buyout in 2026. That’s assuming he goes unclaimed, of course. He isn’t going to be claimed. Garcia has been a massive disappointment since signing his four-year $52 million contract prior to 2022, and he’ll all but assuredly hit free agency after he goes unclaimed. Rotoworld Today, 8:32 am
  • DFA'd by Miami
The Marlins activated Garcia (hamstring) from the 10-day injured list Tuesday and designated him for assignment, Jeff Passan of ESPN.com reports.

Advice: Garcia is in the third year of a four-year, $53 million contract and the Marlins have elected to eat the nearly $24 million remaining on that deal. Slated to turn 33 next week, Garcia has managed just a .217/.260/.322 line over 153 games during his three seasons with Miami. He will clear waivers and eventually be released, at which point another team will be able to sign Garcia for the prorated veteran minimum. Rotowire.com Today, 8:31 am
  • Drives in three Monday
Winker went 3-for-4 with a walk and three RBI in Monday's loss to the Mets.

Advice: All three hits were singles, but it was still a productive night for Winker. His performance was marred by a caught stealing to end the second inning, however -- one of many mistakes by the Nats in what proved to be a one-run loss. The 30-year-old outfielder is batting .333 (11-for-33) over the last 10 games, but his only extra-base hit during that stretch is a double, and his homer drought currently stands at 13 games. • Makes third straight start
Grossman started at designated hitter and went 0-for-3 in Monday's 2-1 loss to Detroit.

Advice: Grossman served as the starting DH for a third straight game, all against lefties, and is 3-for-10 with a double and three RBI during that stretch. His elevation to the starting lineup coincides with Ezequiel Duran replacing the lefty-hitting Nathaniel Lowe at first base in those three contests, which suggests a strategic change against left-handers. The Rangers have been middle-of-the-pack against lefties this season (.242 average, 16th). Rotowire.com Today, 5:42 am
  • Starts at 1B again
Duran started at first base and went 1-for-4 with a double in Monday's 2-1 loss to the Tigers.

Advice: Duran was in the starting lineup at first base for a third straight game -- all against lefties -- as it appears primary starter Nathaniel Lowe is losing work against southpaws. Duran is batting .235/.304/.275 against lefties this season, which is lower than Lowe's line of .250/.327/.292, suggesting the platoon may not be a long-term solution. Rotowire.com Today, 5:27 am

  • Settling into groove at plate
Steer went 3-for-5 with two RBI and a run scored in Monday's 13-3 win over Colorado.

Advice: After a rough May in which he posted a .176 average and .629 OPS, Steer has gotten off to a strong start to June. He's delivered multiple hits in all three games on the month, going 8-for-14. Steer's recent form is reminiscent of early in the season, when he hit .324/.435/.563 with 18 RBI over his first 20 games. Rotowire.com Today, 5:15 am

  • Homers in two straight
Gurriel went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Monday's 4-2 win over San Francisco.

Advice: Gurriel led off the second inning with a home run, his eighth of the season, to give Arizona an early lead. It was the second consecutive game in which he homered in his first plate appearance. The outfielder has a modest six-game hit streak, going 6-for-24 during that stretch. Rotowire.com Today, 4:41 am
  • Walks off Giants
Smith hit a pinch-hit, two-run home run in Monday's 4-2 win over the Giants.

Advice: Smith pinch hit for Eugenio Suarez and sent a center-cut fastball over the fence in center field for a walk-off home run. It was his second homer of the season and the first walk-off blast of his career. Smith has been relegated to the bench and pinch-hit duties mostly, but he has a knack for high-leverage moments. Per Baseball Reference's leverage indicator, the outfielder/DH owns an .871 OPS in high-leverage spots during his career. Rotowire.com Today, 4:22 am
