    Singer yielded a run on three hits and two walks over five innings in a no-decision Friday. He struck out four during a loss to Texas.

    Advice: Singer turned in three scoreless frames before Wyatt Langford knocked an RBI double in the fourth inning. It was the only damage against Singer through five innings, but the Royals bullpen would go on to allow five runs in the sixth and cost him a win. It was his first start without allowing a homer since May 19; in his previous four outings, he was taken deep six times, resulting in a 5.31 ERA.   • Brady Singer pitches well in no-decision on Friday
    Brady Singer pitched well in a no-decision against the Rangers on Friday night, allowing just one run on three hits over his five frames.

    Advice: Singer racked up four strikeouts on the evening while surrendering a pair of free passes. The lone run that scored against him came on an RBI double off the bat of Wyatt Langford in the fourth inning. Singer exited with a 2-1 lead and in line for a victory, but the Royals’ bullpen was unable to oblige. The 27-year-old hurler got nine whiffs on 89 pitches on the night, registering a CSW of 24 percent.     Imanaga (7-2) took the loss to the Mets on Friday, allowing 10 runs on 11 hits and one walk with three strikeouts over three-plus innings.

    Advice: Imanaga was hit hard early and often, surrendering six runs on three home runs in the first two innings and another run in the third. He was unable to record an out in the fourth frame and was charged with three more runs, resulting in the worst outing of his major-league career. In total, Imanaga allowed 11 hard-hit balls, and the velocity on each of his pitches was at least one mph below his season averages.     Shota Imanaga was tagged for 10 runs and 11 hits in 3 1/3 innings by the Mets on Friday.

    Advice: With his velocity down 1-2 mph on all of his pitches, Imanaga was crushed today, giving up three homers and 11 hard-hit balls in all. He was effective in his previous two starts, but this makes three out of five outings in which he’s struggled; he’s allowed 21 earned runs in those five outings after giving up a total of five in his first nine starts.     Astros’ manager Joe Espada told reporters on Friday that right-hander Justin Verlander (neck) has yet to resume throwing.

    Advice: There had been hope that he would resume throwing earlier in the week, but it’s taking much longer than expected for his neck discomfort to dissipate.   • Shane Baz strikes out six on Thursday at Triple-A
    Rays RHP prospect Shane Baz struck out six over three scoreless innings on Thursday for Triple-A Durham.

    Advice: Baz averaged 96.5 mph on his four-seam fastball, which generated seven swinging strikes in this one, and needed just 70 pitches to navigate three frames. He gave up four hits and also issued three walks. The 25-year-old top pitching prospect has recorded 24 strikeouts over his last three starts since June 8. It’s time.     Kodai Senga (shoulder) threw a bullpen session on Wednesday.

    Advice: Senga could progress to facing hitters in a live batting practice session at some point over the weekend, depending on how he comes out of his latest throwing session. The 31-year-old righty remains without a definitive return timeline at the moment, but he’s going to require several weeks of rehab starts once he gets to that point in his ramp-up process.   • Could face hitters soon
    Senga (shoulder/triceps) threw another bullpen session Wednesday, and manager Carlos Mendoza said afterward that the right-hander's next step could be facing hitters in live batting practice, Julian Guilarte of SI.com reports.

    Advice: The Mets will likely re-evaluate Senga on Thursday and Friday, but if he feels fine physically coming out of his latest bullpen session, expect him to gain clearance to face hitters. Senga has been on the injured list all season, first because of a right posterior shoulder capsule strain before he experienced right triceps inflammation in late May.     Yates earned a save against the Mets on Wednesday, striking out one batter in a perfect ninth inning.

    Advice: Yates protected a two-run Texas lead in the top of the ninth frame, retiring the side in order on 16 pitches. The veteran reliever is a perfect 11-for-11 in save chances this season -- no closer in baseball has converted more saves without blowing any opportunities.
